Disney Parks Blog Celebrates the 20th Anniversary of Tower of Terror at Disney's Hollywood Studios

A Model Day at Disney Parks – Exclusive Tilt-Shift Video Featuring Magic Kingdom

posted on October 1st, 2009 by Thomas Smith, Social Media Director, Disney Parks

In celebration of the Magic Kingdom’s birthday today we have something special for you. We’re giving new meaning to “it’s a small world” on the Disney Parks Blog.

“A Day at the Magic Kingdom Park” is a never-before-seen look at the park in miniature scale. The video is created from a series of photos snapped inside the Magic Kingdom Park. And the trick is tilt-shift photography.

It’s a sunrise-to-sunset story told without words. But the message is clear — celebrate.

Our celebration begins at the Magic Kingdom front gates and the Seven Seas Lagoon. The character train welcome and “Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It!” are also featured.

Also, we captured some amazing images of our attractions and the “SpectroMagic” parade on one of the days it was running on Main Street, U.S.A.

Enjoy.

Update: We’ve recently launched a tilt-shift video of Epcot. Watch it here.

Very cool video! I’m familiar with “tilt shifted” photos but I’ve never seen them animated like this.

The music was great too, what’s the title of the song used in the video?

Thomas Smith on October 1st, 2009 at 12:18 pm

Thanks. It’s Good Morning, Cleveland! – licensed by Extreme Music.

This photography is beautiful. Was the video shot by someone at Disney or an outside artist?

Thomas Smith on October 1st, 2009 at 12:24 pm

Our team at Disney Parks shot this.

Doesn’t that song sound a lot like Matchbox Twenty’s “How Far We’ve Come”?

Thanks, Thomas, for this great post. We at photosfromtheparks had posted some very simple tilt-shift photos some time ago on our site but these take the cake. Can the Disney Parks team tell us a little bit about the lenses used for these great shots?

32

michael from NC on October 1st, 2009 at 1:59 pm

That is extremely cool. Well done! I echo the sentiments that I’d love to see these for the other parks, and even more from the Magic Kingdom. This would also make a cool extra for the park DVDs at some point…

Heck, I’d like to see a “making of” feature to show how you do this… Very neat. Thanks!

42

This is Great!!!! I hope you all do videos like this of the other 3 parks, maybe even Typhoon and Blizzard. Oh and maybe Downtown Disney. This is really a unique look at the park.

43

Steven on October 1st, 2009 at 3:25 pm

Very cool effect. Can we expect to see something for the other three parks, too?

44

Susan on October 1st, 2009 at 3:26 pm

Wow, that just put the BIGGEST smile on my face … and I don’t even have speakers here at work. Will have to listen to the music when I get home. Awesome video! I’m at 29 days and counting and this just made me even more anxious!

45

Adam from LA on October 1st, 2009 at 3:29 pm

I love this! This is amazing! I am a castmember, and I am so lucky to be apart of something this magically. I love stop motion animation, and this is probably the best I’ve seen. Thanks for sharing.

I have one question, how often was a picture taken? It looks like it was every 2 or 3 seconds.

Thanks again.

Thomas Smith on October 1st, 2009 at 4:23 pm

Thanks, Adam. It’s one shot per second.

46

Jim from NY on October 1st, 2009 at 3:39 pm
