Happy Villaintines Day from Disney Parks Blog

A Model Day at Disney Parks – Exclusive Tilt-Shift Video Featuring Magic Kingdom

posted on October 1st, 2009 by Thomas Smith, Editorial Content Director, Disney Parks

In celebration of the Magic Kingdom’s birthday today we have something special for you. We’re giving new meaning to “it’s a small world” on the Disney Parks Blog.

“A Day at the Magic Kingdom Park” is a never-before-seen look at the park in miniature scale. The video is created from a series of photos snapped inside the Magic Kingdom Park. And the trick is tilt-shift photography.

It’s a sunrise-to-sunset story told without words. But the message is clear — celebrate.

Our celebration begins at the Magic Kingdom front gates and the Seven Seas Lagoon. The character train welcome and “Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It!” are also featured.

Also, we captured some amazing images of our attractions and the “SpectroMagic” parade on one of the days it was running on Main Street, U.S.A.

Update: We’ve recently launched a tilt-shift video of Epcot. Watch it here.

Katrina from FL on October 1st, 2009 at 6:59 pm

That’s beautiful. It brought tears to my eyes and it REALLY makes me miss my annual pass (it only expired a couple weeks ago but already I’m hurtin’ for it!).

Anita from ON on October 1st, 2009 at 7:20 pm

We just came home from Disney World on Sept 25th and must say “we had the time of our life”(hey, isn’t that what the song says?) The trip definitely provided invaluable memories that we will cherish always. We didn’t see mickey :( but, we did see many of his friends. We will be back! Your video is doesn’t do the trip justice but sure is cool!

kristi on October 1st, 2009 at 7:42 pm

Great….I have seen the fake tilt-shift videos and think they are fun!!! Just this week on Tuesday I posted this fake tilt-shift photo in my Disney photostream. I hope you will take a look :)

I have been getting your updates through twitter and have enjoyed them :)

Awesome! This should be at an Epcot with an exhibit on tilt shift photography! Very neat, and I learned something after researching the tilt shift on wikipedia!

I really loved it. It didn’t stand out as being commercial, but like the spirit of the park. It really makes you feel good watching it. Keep up the good work. Like to see more of this.

Bob from NC on October 2nd, 2009 at 7:05 am

Absolutley amazing! What a great way to look at the “smallness” of the Magic Kingdom! I watched it with my 2-year-old son and he was grinning just as big as I was. Although I have to admit I had tears in my eyes watching him… He’ll be going on his first trip to WDW the end of the month – only 26 days to go!! We can’t wait to see the look on his face when he sees everything in person! Great job once again and kudos for starting this excellent blog!

Thomas Smith on October 2nd, 2009 at 9:52 am

Thanks for this great comment, Bob. Glad to hear you’ll be celebrating with us.

As a photo geek, would it be possible to ask the technical details… camera, lens, etc? Thanks!

Mark from GA on October 2nd, 2009 at 12:19 pm

Sitting here at my desk watching this makes me happy. But sad, too. I would rather be a the MK than anywhere else. I can almost smell the popcorn on Main Street now!

Great video, I have watched it several times over and shared it with family and friends. I was just there last month and wish everyday I was there still. Thank you for the treat.

Was the tilt-shift done with DSLRs using tilt-shift lenses or through photoshop?

Hendrik from Jakarta on October 3rd, 2009 at 5:46 am

it looks like miniature but it still awesome

Olivier on October 3rd, 2009 at 6:06 am

It would be fantastic to be able to download it in HD (podcast on iTunes for example or as a H264 file).
By the way, a really nice work with a moving touch. Can’t wait to see the same about my favorite Disney park: Epcot.

Michael on October 3rd, 2009 at 7:50 am

Amazing! I saw the tweet about this on Thursday but didn’t make the time to view it until today. Very cool way to present a video. I would love to see similar videos for the other parks. Job well done! Thanks.

Scott on October 3rd, 2009 at 10:11 am

Amazing! Absolutely brilliant! Next time please give us more titlt shift footage of the monorail, Contemporary and Polynesian. Great music, great use of tilt shift perspective… wow. Just magnificent. Thank you.

Any chance Disney Parks could put this on YouTube so I can carry it around on my iPhone?

Karen from MA on October 3rd, 2009 at 2:59 pm

This video is awesome!! I’ve got a few months before I return to WDW & this video made me want to
