More than 44 years ago, Walt and Lillian Disney celebrated the opening of Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln at the Main Street Opera House in Disneyland park. As you can tell from the photo, it was an exciting time for Walt Disney. The show had just received international acclaim at the 1964 New York World’s Fair, and the ribbon cutting ceremony pictured below marked the official opening of the Main Street Opera House.

Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln underwent a few changes over the years, and Walt Disney Imagineers have made great progress in refining this classic show. Last month on the Disney Parks Blog, we gave you a sneak peek at the most advanced Audio-Animatronics technology yet.

Today, we have new video of the figure being programmed in the theater. Imagineer Brian Scholz explains the process and how they’ve blended older attraction elements with new technology.

The show is scheduled to open to guests very soon if you’d like to check it out for yourself.

  • Including a picture of Miley Cyrus in the “Spirit of Celebration” section in the exit hall may seem strange to some, but that does not detract at all from the attraction as a whole. Besides, there are some people who like her and think of her as an up and coming singer. Also, I’m sure that they were trying to appeal to all demographics.

I’m glad that Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln is back. I’ve seen it and its great. Blending the classic show with the new technology. 🙂

  • Can’t wait to go back to the park and see this! I’ve seen so manny pictures of it; no videos though it would ruin it…but I have a problem with something, on a wall with pictures of Michael Jackson, and Elvis you put a picture of Hannah Montana, what’s that about? only thing to make it worse is if you add the Jonas Brothers.

  • I remember going to the New York Worlds Fair in 1964 and saw Great Moments with Lincoln before it went to Disneyland. I was 7yrs old and still have a vivid memory of it…Thanks for bringing it back, it was they way we always started off our day at Disneyland.

  • It’s about time!!

  • we will be there opening day i have been waiting for it to open all summer

  • I am so pleased that they have brought back Great Moments With Mr Lincoln. I tried to share this experience with my children many times during our recent annual pass visits, but it was never open. Paying the admission price is worth it, just for Mr Lincoln.

  • Yay thank you for bringing it back. It’s an honor to see Walt Disney’s imaginations come to life and preserved in Disneyland. I remember seeing it when I was little, but it will definitely be more enjoyable since I will understand better now. Keep up the great work! ^^

  • Can’t wait to see this wonderful attraction again. Hope to be there for our anniversary. 46 years ago we were at Disneyland for our Honeymoon.
