Hi Disney Parks Blog readers, we have an update on work being done at Castaway Cay, Disney’s private island paradise in the Bahamas.

The island is undergoing enhancements to provide new experiences for our guests and a slice of beachside luxury. Work is scheduled to be complete by Summer 2010 but we have an early look courtesy of our friends at Walt Disney Imagineering.

Some of the enhancements taking shape on the island include an expanded family beach, a new family water playground with spraying misters and squirting water jets, and a new Scuttle’s Cove water play area for kids, with pop jets, geysers and bubblers. Also being added is a new water feature called Pelican Plunge – a 2,400-square-foot floating platform with two cool corkscrew water slides.

And for a slice of beachside luxury, guests can enjoy one of 16 new private rental cabanas located on the expanded family beach.

  • The additions look terrific! We can’t wait to go back! Still wondering what they could do the PotC ship to add to the entertainment on Castaway?

  • I just can’t wait to go there!!! it will be amazing!!!I love Disney World!!

  • Fantastic !

    I have two questions :
1 – Will some of thes developments be done by early may ?
2 – Will the adults be able to enjoy these new slides ? They look fun ! 🙂

  • I was on Castaway Cay in August and saw the beginnings of the construction, and I went back in December and could not get over how quickly everything was moving along! It looks great. I saw the cabanas and Pelican Plunge and the new stingray area! It is all very exciting, thanks for keeping us updated! My next Disney cruises August 2010, January 2011, and August 2011!!!!!!

  • The new additions looks great! I especially like the new private rental cabanas. My wife and I just went on our first Disney Cruise last week and loved it! Unfortunately our day at Castaway Cay was rather cold and the weather caused the morning excursions to be canceled. We missed our stingray encounter, but had fun exploring the island and made sure to mail postcards from the Castaway Cay Post Office. Can’t wait to go on another Disney Cruise!
