A New Animator’s Palate for the Disney Dream

posted on March 30th, 2010 by Jonathan Frontado, Disney Cruise Line

Many of you have been wondering…what do we have in store for Animator’s Palate on the Disney Dream? Wonder no more!

We are getting ready to present a completely re-imagined version of our signature restaurant. The minute you walk into Animator’s Palate, you know you’re in for a treat –- it will feel like you’ve entered a classic animation studio, filled with character maquettes, paint brushes, colored pencils and other tools of the trade. Throughout the restaurant are sketches from the Disney•Pixar film “Finding Nemo.”

This is how the restaurant will look when you first arrive.

As your meal progresses, the restaurant begins an enchanting transformation and the artwork around room magically fills with bubbles, revealing scenes of a vivid undersea environment. It’s as if the dining room has been transported under the sea and the artwork has turned into windows providing incredible views of a colorful coral reef and creatures that reside on the reef.

This is where the really cool part kicks in. Crush, the surfer-dude sea turtle from “Finding Nemo,” will make a special appearance, swimming around the restaurant and interacting with guests. Crush will visit each section of the restaurant and ask guests about their experience onboard the ship and answer questions about his life under the sea. Other characters from “Finding Nemo,” such as Nemo, Dory, Squirt and Bruce the shark, will also swim by and visit with guests.

Check this out…the guys from Walt Disney Imagineering are hard at work putting final touches on the experience. They even mocked-up a portion of the restaurant with plywood!

As with all Disney stories, this dining experience at Animator’s Palate has a tremendous finale moment…but I don’t want to spoil that surprise. You’ll have to sail on the Disney Dream and experience it for yourself!

You misspelled “dining” in the 4th paragraph.

Lou from FL on March 30th, 2010 at 11:21 am

Conrad from FL on March 30th, 2010 at 12:24 pm

It looks great and I can’t wait to see it but it would have been nice to see a “classic animation” to go with the classic animation studio. The Little Mermaid perhaps?

Richard from LA on March 30th, 2010 at 12:38 pm

Now that you’ve fixed the spelling of “dining” in the 4th paragraph, add the word “the” in that same paragraph where you have “…artwork around room…” 8=o)

Meredith from NJ on March 30th, 2010 at 12:46 pm

I have heard so much about this restaurant and it looks so great! I cant wait to see it in person.

Carolyn from CA on March 30th, 2010 at 12:49 pm

When I first saw the pictures of the Dream’s Animator’s Palate I was unsure where Disney was going to take it. I love the general look but where would the fun be? Well once again it sounds like Disney is taking it over the top!! I hope to go on the Dream in the next couple of years and see it for myself!

Tom from IN on March 30th, 2010 at 1:22 pm

The Animator’s Palate is so cool.

catherine on March 30th, 2010 at 8:24 pm

ALL of us will be soooo excited to see Disney Dream. Best wishes to all of those who get the “maiden voyage”. I have to wait for my “Dream” trip, but it’s like having a baby, so I Can Do It!!

Adam on March 30th, 2010 at 10:40 pm

I too was wondering what direction this new Animator’s Palate was going to take when I initially saw the concept art. The amazing show on the Magic and Wonder is going to be tough to match, but this restaurant’s more interactive focus sounds like it will be very impressive as well!

Bart on March 31st, 2010 at 10:24 am

Amazing. Simply amazing.

Craig on March 31st, 2010 at 1:52 pm

I am excited beyond words about everything to do with this ship! This looks amazing!
