Here it is…your first look at a Tron light cycle on our “highway in the sky” at Walt Disney World. And beginning today, you can see it for yourself on the Epcot monorail line. As you learned when we posted the artist renderings, “Tron: Legacy” is a 3D high-tech adventure set in a digital world that’s scheduled to hit the big screen at the end of the year. Of course, there will be more in upcoming months, but we wanted to share this image with you first on The Disney Parks Blog.

It’s not the first time Disney has turned their monorails into billdoards. They did it to the Mark V monorails at Disneyland in 2008 for the opening of the Finding Nemo submarine attraction turning a monorail into a yello submarine. They also painted another one up to celebrate the year of a million dreams.
When I was at WDW two weeks ago, the first monorail I saw was this “Tronorail”. My first reaction was not this place too! I feared they did it to all the trains but was relieved to see it’s just this one. It doesn’t bother me as long as it’s not the entire fleet. It may have opened the door though, so monorail fans beware!
There seems to be confusion though. I have heard that there will be two “Tronorails”. Is that true? Or are people getting confused thinking it’s two different trains when in fact both sides of this one train are painted differently?
I do like the light blue on blue, but the yellow on blue, just doesn’t strike my appeal. Thought they put a lot of hard work into this, I’m hoping it’s not a permanent change. Walt Disney created these monorails the way they looked before this. I love the new idea contributed by the Imagineers but, can’t we keep our original history?
Looking forward to seeing the new Tron wrap April 25th. The monorail needed a touch up!
It is nice and all, but why WDW and not Disneyland? Disneyland is where the People Mover had the “Tron” race video.
Enough of my complaining! Just bring it over here to Disneyland before the movie premieres.
I was in the station at the TTC and saw this coming into the station and didn’t like it at all. Later on I saw it going by while I was in Epcot and it looked pretty cool. So I guess it looks cooler the farther away it is. I think you have to have the entire monorail in view to get the full effect. I haven’t ridden it yet, I’m concerned that it looks like you may not be able to see out the windows very well? I don’t like the ballons because they block the view to much (the little holes in the ballons really don’t help you see out), this looks like it would be even more obstructive. When I first heard about it I thought they were just going to put a light cycle at the front of the monorail’s existing stripe; I think that would have looked cooler and been more tasteful.

This train doesn’t look too bad except for the window decals which show all the squeegee marks they left behind. Oh not to mention that once the doors are open, ou can still see the old coral paint scheme.
I really like the skin on the monorail. I think it looks great! I’m not really sure what all the fuss is about. Almost everything at the parks is an advertisment for something else. Its what makes the parks so great; that you can experience some part of a movie in a real world environment. Building on that, I hope that maybe they will move the Tron theme to the Tomorrowland Raceway. Great cross-theming while providing a badly needed upgrade to a dated attraction.

I remember the TRON section of the PeopleMover at Disneyland. This is cooler.
It’s fine – but what is so awesome about this? I just don’t understand all of the hype.
Not happy. It’s OK to use a Disney bus to advertise, but not the monorail. The monorail is an integral part of the Disney experience and should not be used as a billboard…very disappointed.
Please limit it to the Epcot monorail system.

I like the artwork. I don’t see it as a billboard because it is advertising a disney theme. Wouldn;t it be nice to see one decorated with disney princesses or assorted characters. I think it looks good.
Ok Ill admit this looks cool…but I always have liked the original Tron and am excited about the upcoming Tron release….
That being said, I am not overly excited with the use of the monorails in this fashion…and hope this is not going to be a “normal” promotion-type from now on. Just feel like the monorails are more classy without advertisements. Just Saying.
Walt Disney said, “(The Parks) will grow and change as long as there is imagination left in the world”. Shame on the cranky folks who complain about the brilliant work of the imagineers! The TRON monorail is about the coolest thing I’ve ever seen. I embrace the words and philosophy of Walt Disney. Bring on the changes. Bring on the imagination. NEVER stop delighting us with wonderful change.
Absolutely amazing! This is a superb way to advertise a Disney film, moving billboards are the future. For the purists there are still plenty on cars without the skins, hope they decide to do more like this.

For those saying it is a billboard, I disagree. I think it fits in very well with the Epcot track. So what if it IS a billboard, it is a very inventive way of doing it and it came out great!
I’m glad that someone mentioned the skins at DL. The Finding Nemo Submarine Ride skin was way cool as the monorail glided over the submarine lagoon. It may have looked out of place in DCA, but worked in DL.
This is simply amazing! I can’t wait to see them in person. Great Job Disney

It’s very cool! Just got to see it this evening going from TTC to Epcot past the MK main gate. It looks great!
I think it might look okay for the week before the pic opens, but I really don’t like it at all. Messin’ with an icon like the monorail, nope, don’t like it. I agree with the person who thinks it looks like a city bus. It just doesn’t look like Disney now.
oh man–I don’t know if I like it…I love the sleek space-shipy look of the monorail and somehow the color/artwork takes away from the cool-ness of it all.
Does that make sense?
DisneyWorld had the wraps before too, its not the first time. Also year of a million dreams was parks related not for a movie. I really hope this isn’t a trend for things to come. I don’t think the iconic monorail should be used as a billboard for the movies. Now I think if they wanted to use the buses to promote that would be one thing but not the monorail. I’m not saying its a bad job it does look kinda cool but in small doses. Glad its just one!

I agree with those that said they like the color schemes, or that it should have been wrapped so the monorail looked like a lightcycle. But I do dig it.
And I’m glad it’s just the Epcot line. I think in small doses this is ok. But I hope they don’t go “synergy-crazy” and start putting ads on everything! Or at least find more subtle ways.
We don’t need Cinderella’s castle wrapped or painted with some Rapunzel-related imagery to promote Tangled!

I don’t like it… Tron doesn’t appeal to me as a movie nor does the monorail as a billboard. Fortunately we will be taking the bus from our resort to Epcot.

I think it would have been cooler if they had wrapped it so it looked like the monorail itself were a lightcycle, rather than just putting a picture of one on the side. Maybe even using neon or LEDs to illuminate the lines of the monorail so it looks straight from the movie at night.
Looks like an Indianapolis city bus now…Disney should be really proud…

Can’t say I like this at all. The Monorail is something quintessentially Disney and doesn’t need a bilboard on it to make it more special.
If Disney DID want to put something TRON related on the Monorails, the simple, cool, sleek aesthetically sound lines of the real light cycles would have been a real treat.

OK, the concept art didn’t do it justice… this is just plain cool!! And it just seems to “fit” in Epcot with Spaceship Earth behind it. Thanks for sharing. End of line.
