100-Year-Old Celebrates His Birthday at Walt Disney World

posted on April 13th, 2010 by Thomas Smith, Editorial Content Director, Disney Parks

John Schmitz and family celebrating his 100th birthday at Magic Kingdom Park
We celebrate birthdays daily at Disney Parks but today we had a special one at the Walt Disney World Resort. John Schmitz celebrated his 100th birthday with us at Magic Kingdom Park.

John, who lives in Altamonte Springs, Florida, said his birthday wish after turning 100 was to ride “it’s a small world.” And he did that and more during Tuesday’s visit. What’s the secret to his longevity? He’ll tell you it is working hard and staying active. John does volunteer work at his church and still plays bingo with friends every week.

After his visit to The Hall of Presidents today, there was already talk about next year’s celebration and another visit to “it’s a small world.”

Happy Birthday, John.

That’s so awesome! No matter what your age WDW is the best place to celebrate! I can only hope I make it to 100 and am able to celebrate at WDW, too!
Way to go, John – hope you had a “magical” b-day (bless your heart)!

Read about Mr. Schmitz the other day and thought it was a wonderful story. I hope I too live to be 100-years-old so I can visit the Happiest Place on Earth to celebrate! Here’s to 101 and beyond, John!
