Disney Vacation Connection Desktop Widget

Today, we’re sharing a sneak peek at the new Disney Vacation Connection desktop widget –- that’s it…right there with Pluto. When you open the red suitcase on your computer screen you’ll find valuable news, calendars and information about Disney theme parks, Disney Cruise Line, Adventures by Disney and Disney Vacation Club. It’ll be easy to try. Just download the widget to your desktop (free of charge) and you can customize planning for your next vacation, find special events and ticket prices and create a personalized Disney vacation countdown. Here’s a quick walk through showing how it’ll work.

Disney Vacation Connection is not quite ready yet but you can sign up to receive notice when it officially launches. Also, please let us know what you think in comments.

I love it! Too bad we leave this friday for 10 magical days at Disney World. I guess I will have to start planning another trip so I can use this!

Looks like it is going to be a great one stop experience! Can’t wait for it to launch!!!

WHAT?! How cool is this?? You’ve really thought of every possible need in this widget. Excellent idea…can’t wait to see it in action.

The widget looks awesome. The design is beautiful. However, I think it is displaying far too much information for a widget. The point of a widget is to give you quick “at a glance” information. This widget seems to be designed as something that would be used for a minimum of 5 minutes, and most likely 30+ minutes. It has practically your entire vacation crammed into it. I’m not saying that’s bad (in fact it’s totally awesome), but it’d probably be better to develop this a proper application or web-based application instead, considering how it will be used.

Very cool – would’ve loved to have it for our trip to WDW in a week?

Crystal from VA on April 20th, 2010 at 4:41 pm

I can’t wait! I signed up a few weeks ago for the notification. Like we aren’t excited enough about our upcoming trip! ;) I like the countdown feature and would love if we can access park hours and operational updates from the “connection”. We are always worried that one of our favorites will be down for refurbishment during our visit. It’s easier to prepare the kids ahead of time than to get to the ride and find out that day.

Just please remember that a lot of people use the web at libraries, school, etc., and aren’t allowed to download stuff; a lot of sites are forgeting that these days. So please don’t make this the only access to, well, anything.

tammy on April 20th, 2010 at 7:55 pm

22

Robert on April 20th, 2010 at 8:08 pm

We leave in 25 days so we won’t be able to use this but it looks great! Disney is always coming up with something new and awesome! Our next trip will be with our little boy and I look forward to the countdown.

Wow, that looks very cool. I hope they remember to make it available for Mac users too. All to often Mac users get left out in the cold (this has happened in the past with Disney computer applications, etc.).

24

Jennifer from IL on April 20th, 2010 at 8:27 pm

can’t wait to give it a try, looks great!! we are planning a trip in february and it seems that there is so much information hopefully this will help! Don’t tease us, lets get it up and running!

25

Jan from OH on April 20th, 2010 at 9:20 pm

make the calendar interactive. Let me put in my hotel reservation number and the pre-populate all the park hours for me…or better yet, let me choose which parks to add hrs for. Then let me add my dining reservations and even events or parade times so I can get rid of my excel spreadsheet I put together every year.

Jason on April 20th, 2010 at 11:14 pm

Let’s hope that an iPhone app isn’t far behind!

49

It doesn’t seem to work for me either. Is there any way to get some sort of notice when it actually is available so we can download it? We only get an error notice and no place to sign up for e-mail alerts.

PEGGY from NY on May 7th, 2010 at 4:10 pm

I’m also having problems. I’ve been trying for the last 2 hours and nothing. I tried both Internet Explorer and Firefox and it doesn’t work on either one.

Thomas Smith on May 7th, 2010 at 5:00 pm

Hi Peggy, please try now.
