Interactive Image: Sun Sets over Spaceship Earth

posted on May 12th, 2010 by Thomas Smith, Editorial Content Director, Disney Parks

After we shared a unique “last look” at Magic Kingdom decorations earlier this year, some of you asked for more. So, here it is. Please move your cursor up and down over the image to see the sun setting over the Spaceship Earth Attraction:

Did you notice the character topiaries we featured early this year in a Flower & Garden Festival time-lapse video? Anything else you’d like featured? Please let us know in the comments.

Haunted Mansion? Maybe if you drain the Rivers of America again at some point, a time lapse of that so you could see the water come and go would be really cool

Thomas Smith on May 12th, 2010 at 2:46 pm

Haunted Mansion is a great suggestion. Thanks, Kurt.

Ian from ENGLAND on May 12th, 2010 at 12:47 pm

Aww I love it! Can’t wait until September!

Ian from ENGLAND on May 12th, 2010 at 12:48 pm

By that, I mean I’m returning to WDW – our first trip as DVC owners – Epcot is my absolute favourite park! :-)

Lillian on May 12th, 2010 at 1:00 pm

Nice one! I’ll be there in November!

Chris on May 12th, 2010 at 1:01 pm

Oooh, I really like both of Kurt’s ideas!
These interactive images are very awesome, thanks for putting them together.

Bernadette from CA on May 12th, 2010 at 1:21 pm

That is pretty nifty!!! I like it and wish to see more… of anything Disney!!! Thanx

Dale from MD on May 12th, 2010 at 3:38 pm

Would love to see the Haunted Mansion too — but the last couple times we were at MK it was completely dark — do they have it uplit again?

Stephanie on May 12th, 2010 at 3:44 pm

To go along with the suggestion of the Haunted Mansion, what about the Hollywood Tower of Terror? I know that I would love a feature or two on this ride!!

Heather from KY on May 12th, 2010 at 4:21 pm

I love these interactive images! I think Tower of Terror would be really cool, too, Stephanie!

Jackie from KY on May 12th, 2010 at 5:11 pm

That is very neat! Maybe they could do something with fireworks, like Wishes or Illuminations?

Sarah on May 12th, 2010 at 5:47 pm

We came to Epcot in 2003 and the Spaceship Earth ball had the word Epcot on it, but in 2008 it didn’t. Can anybody tell me why it has been removed?

David on May 12th, 2010 at 7:58 pm

Rivers of America would be great, and to show the changes the stage on the island goes through and some scenes from fantasmic

Janet from MI on May 12th, 2010 at 8:35 pm

Love it!! I heard once that the colors on Spaceship Earth after dark are the colors of the sunset, and indeed they are.

Jay from OH on May 12th, 2010 at 9:59 pm

Very cool. Thanks! EPCOT continues to be one of my favorite parks.

Alison on May 12th, 2010 at 10:11 pm

A standing room only theatre fill up for Fantasmic! at the Hollywood Studios would be an interesting panoramic. Day to night over the Tree of Life.

Rachel on May 12th, 2010 at 11:43 pm

The word EPCOT was only supposed to be a temporary thing, put up for the 2000 celebration and they left the word EPCOT up for a little while longer, eventually taking it all back down.

I would love to see an Interactive Image with a shot from the top of Expedition Everest showing the entire Animal Kingdom Park :)

John from IL on May 13th, 2010 at 8:31 am

How about a tilt-shift video of the Safari ride or the parade at Animal Kingdom?

Ellen on May 13th, 2010 at 8:40 am

Thanks! I’m coming in 2 weeks and this preview put yet another Disney smile on my face!

Melissa from DE on May 13th, 2010 at 9:54 am

Love love love this picture!

Christopher from VT on May 13th, 2010 at 12:09 pm

I vote for haunted mansion like the 1st comment

Marie on May 13th, 2010 at 12:11 pm

Wow so pretty!!!

Shandale on May 13th, 2010 at 1:03 pm

Yay!! I love this! I can’t wait to get back to WDW!!

Sean on May 13th, 2010 at 1:21 pm

You know where I read the title “Sun Sets over Spaceship Earth” on Facebook, I freaked out! They are shutting down Spaceship Earth?!?! Thankfully, I was wrong.

Beth from PA on May 13th, 2010 at 1:22 pm

Wonderful – can’t wait to see it personally in October.

Char from WI on May 13th, 2010 at 1:27 pm

Love that!

Amy on May 13th, 2010 at 1:46 pm

How do you guys do that? Do you just create the transition from two photos (one in the day, the other at night) or do you actually put together images taken from the entire day? I think it’s so cool to do stuff like this. A great one could also be Small World :)

Sue on May 13th, 2010 at 2:26 pm

I would love to have a Windows7 Theme of Disney World, are there any in the works?

Amy from NJ on May 13th, 2010 at 2:32 pm

I’d love to see Splash Mountain in a sunrise-to-sunset photo! Or better yet, as we scroll over the photo, instead of going from sunrise-to-sunset, you can let us control the view and speed of the 52.5 foot drop!

Randy from NH on May 13th, 2010 at 2:43 pm

Keeping with the icon of a park theme. Sunrise over the Tree of Life would look AWESOME!

Nella from FL on May 13th, 2010 at 3:35 pm

I went to Epcot over last New Year’s celebration and I spent so many hours in line on one ride only that couldn’t ride others…. I just went last weekend again and the park was beautifully with the flowers and I got to ride twice some of the rides…. Soarin I have to say is impressive, amazing and unbelievable… I can’t wait to go back in the summer and take more of my family that are coming for vacation and ride it. I will never get tired of going to Disney. DISNEY ROCKS!!!

Scott from OH on May 13th, 2010 at 4:58 pm

Fantastic! How about the same kind of thing, but featuring Cinderella’s Castle shifting through the various color changes at night?

Thanks for the amazing views from a new perspective!

Brandon from FL on May 13th, 2010 at 9:32 pm

Thank god that wand is gone.

Theresa from TX on May 13th, 2010 at 10:43 pm

Ooooo it’s beautiful! Love it!

Manuel from NM on May 14th, 2010 at 11:06 am

Kristen from MA on May 14th, 2010 at 9:34 pm
