Indulge Your Senses Around Epcot World Showcase

posted on September 30th, 2010 by Dara Trujillo, Manager, Merchandise Synergy, Events, and Communication

When visiting Epcot, one of the things that I enjoy the most is indulging at the pavilions around World Showcase Lagoon. I love being able to sample authentic treats from around the world, discover new scents & fragrances, and get that feeling that I’m being whisked away to new places in each and every pavilion that I visit around the Lagoon. Now when you visit Epcot World Showcase, you will find two new locations that will tantalize your taste buds and transport you to far off places without having to board a 10 hour flight.

Karamell-Küche

Opening today, September 30th, Karamell-Küche (which is German for caramel kitchen) is opening its doors to let the scent of fresh caramel float through the walkways of the Germany Pavilion and onto Epcot World Showcase. This new shop will engulf you in the sights and smells of an old world German caramel shop. Storck USA, makers of Werther’s Original Caramels, invite you to sample a variety of tasty treats – brownies, cookies, and fudge – all created using Werther’s famous caramel. In addition, Cast Members will make homemade caramel corn, caramel covered apples and caramel covered strawberries right before your eyes at Karamell-Küche. A fun fact about this unique shop is that it is the only freestanding retail location for Werther’s in the world, and not only will carry items made fresh daily but a variety of specialty merchandise and gifts that are only available at Epcot.

In addition to the new caramel confections in the Germany Pavilion, Epcot is also transporting your senses to the boulevards of Paris at the newest addition to the France Pavilion. Givenchy, a worldwide leader in couture fashion, beauty and fragrances, has opened their newest shop in the former Library area of the Le Plume et Palette shop in the France Pavilion. The Givenchy Shop is the first of its kind in the United States – offering a full array of Givenchy make-up, skincare and fragrance products.

Givenchy Products

To celebrate the opening of their new shop in the France Pavilion, Givenchy is hosting a special event for all Epcot Guests September 30th-October 3rd. To celebrate, when Guests visit the new shop during this event, they are invited to take part in fragrance samplings, have their make-up done by a professional Givenchy make-up artist and receive a special gift with purchases of $50 or more in Givenchy products.

Next time you’re strolling through Epcot World Showcase, make sure to stop by these two new locations – your taste buds and senses will thank you!

Cruella De Vil, Jafar and Maleficent Answer Your Questions

posted on September 30th, 2010 by Heather Hust Rivera, Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, The Walt Disney Company

Last week, we asked you to send in your most burning questions for the Disney Villains to help you decide who is the baddest villain of all. We received a ton of questions on the Disney Parks Blog, Facebook and Twitter, and today the Disney Villains and their campaign managers answer some of your questions.

See how Cruella de Vil responds when asked what she uses to dye her hair, and advice she has about the upcoming fashion season:

Jafar’s campaign manager tells us why his evil companion is a parrot and how he got his skinny snake staff:

Find out why Maleficent refused to show up in person to answer questions and what she told her campaign manager when asked if she’s always been green-skinned, and if she has horns.

Which Disney Villain gave the best answer in today’s videos? Are you changing your vote based on what you saw today?

Vote for your favorite Disney Villain through October 28 at Disneyland.com/Halloween. Check back tomorrow to see what the Evil Queen, Captain Hook and Ursula had to say. You can also visit some of these Disney Villains at “it’s a small world” mall in Disneyland park.

posted on September 30th, 2010 by Darrell Fry, Sports Media Director, Walt Disney World

Disney Wine & Diner Half-Marathon Weekend Logo
Even though the inaugural Disney Wine & Dine Half Marathon this weekend is completely sold out, there are plenty of ways you can still be a part of the fun.

The 11,000 registered runners will run 13.1 miles through various theme parks at Walt Disney World Resort on Saturday night at 10 p.m., then celebrate the achievement at the Finish Line Party at the Epcot International Food & Wine Festival starting at 10:30 p.m. You can get into the party too – without running 13.1 miles – by buying a Finish Line Party ticket for $35 (theme park attractions and pavilions will be closed). Get your rest, though, because the party goes til 3 a.m. and will be packed with culinary delights, fine wines, Disney character meet & greets and live musical performances.

You can also check out the event’s Health & Fitness Expo at ESPN Wide World of Sports Complex on Friday and Saturday where you can submerge yourself in all things running – everything from new training equipment to running products and apparel to seminars on running by leading industry experts.

Get details at runDisney.com. It’s the ultimate “Runner’s Night Out’’ and probably the most fun you can have without breaking a sweat.

posted on September 30th, 2010 by Pam Brandon, Disney Parks Food Writer

The 15th annual Epcot International Food & Wine Festival opens in just hours, and we couldn’t resist giving you one more look at the delectable dishes (oh, that Korean Bo Ssam wrap, and those steamed mussels from Belgium!). We know it’s also about the wine and beer (whoever heard of Purple Haze beer?), so take one more peek to whet your appetite.

I’ll be there this weekend – and again and again until they turn out the lights on Nov. 14.

Disney Launches Magic of Healthy Living

posted on September 30th, 2010 by Thomas Smith, Social Media Director, Disney Parks

First Lady Michelle Obama and Disney Channel Stars

Exciting news to share today from The Walt Disney Company. We’ve just launched a new initiative to help parents raise healthy, happy children called Disney Magic of Healthy Living. It’s a program encouraging smart eating and exercise through a year-long series of inspiring public service announcements featuring First Lady Michelle Obama and some Disney Channel stars, including Nick Jonas and Brenda Song. Here’s a first look:

One of the big highlights of the program will take place right here at the Walt Disney World Resort. Children will be able to compete in a national essay contest to write about their ideas for living a healthy life at home, at school or in their communities. The contest will be open to kids ages 8 to 14 on October 21, 2010, and entries can be submitted through December 1, 2010. Fifty winners will be invited to Disney Magic of Healthy Living – The Weekend event at the Walt Disney World Resort. For more information about the contest, visit Disney.com/healthyfun.

Disney Magic of Healthy Living Online

Disney Magic of Healthy Living is also online. We’ve launched two new dedicated websites:

  • Disney.com/healthyfun will engage children about healthy living. Disney stars will help children learn everything from the latest dance move to easy snacks they can make after school.
  • Family.com/healthymagic will offer ideas and resources for parents. You’ll have access to a number of resources to help make healthy living for the whole family – from meals to articles from leading experts.

And the initiative will include a $1 million contribution from Disney to help build play spaces and gardens in 10 underserved communities nationwide. Disney will be working with KaBOOM!, a renowned non-profit organization with the vision of creating a great place to play within walking distance of every child.

Check out one of the new websites today and let us know what you think.

A Train’s Life 2: The Disneyland Railroad

posted on September 29th, 2010 by Paul Hiffmeyer, Chief Photographer for Public Relations, Disneyland Resort

I hope you enjoyed the daytime photos of Disneyland Railroad from my last post.

This next photo was captured by using a technique called “panning.” I hand held the camera set at a slow shutter speed while moving (panning) it with the speed of the train. I like this technique because it makes the subject stand out by blurring the background.

When I was scouting for this shot during the day, I liked the angle but decided that a photo at night would be much more interesting.

I really liked this photo when I first saw it, but what really made me want to share it was that Engineer Gary stood still for a full 4 seconds while I took the photo and the train’s headlight is lighting the tunnel so it gives this a picture a huge depth of field.

The main reason I wanted to photograph the trains at night was to get this next photo. I have photographed the trains at Main Street Station many times but always during the day. I just knew that a photo at night from this angle would make a very cool photo. What do you think?

Dive! Dive! Dive!

posted on September 29th, 2010 by Jonathan Frontado, Disney Cruise Line

Hey there Disney Parks Bloggers! We just received a new batch of photos showing the progress of the Disney Dream and we are excited to share them with you.

Check out this cool image! This giant submarine will be the centerpiece of Explorer Pod, one of four themed areas at Disney’s Oceaneer Club. Disney’s Oceaneer Club on the Disney Dream is a child-friendly oasis that transports kids to the magical lands of Disney fairies, friendly monsters, adventuresome toys and undersea exploration. Disney’s Oceaneer Club is open to 3-to-10-year-old children.

Construction of Explorer Pod

Inspired by Disney•Pixar’s “Finding Nemo,” Explorer Pod features 16 interactive computer stations. Outside of the sub, eight computer stations provide gaming fun as the familiar flock of seagulls from “Finding Nemo” looks on.

Someday Your Prince Will Come…A Royal Engagement at Cinderella’s Royal Table

posted on September 29th, 2010 by Pam Brandon, Disney Parks Food Writer

A Proposal at Cinderella’s Royal Table
And let’s hope he knows about “The Glass Slipper, A Royal Engagement at Cinderella’s Royal Table at Magic Kingdom Park.” Because where better to stage a marriage proposal than Cinderella Castle?

Though you may be too nervous to eat, you can propose over a lunch or dinner that includes appetizers, entrées and two non-alcoholic drinks in Champagne flutes (alas, no Champagne in the Magic Kingdom). You bring the ring, they provide a glass slipper etched with rose petals. Disney photographers will be there to capture your darling’s delight. If you’re not the jealous type, Cinderella will join you for a photo.
The Happy Couple
End the sweet experience with a Chocolate Slipper Royal Dessert, a white chocolate slipper filled with chocolate mousse on a “pillow” of angel food cake with fresh berries.

Reservations are limited and Magic Kingdom admission is required. For reservations, call 407-824-4477. Cost is $300 plus tax and gratuity.
