Disney’s Vero Beach Resort Celebrates Milestone Year

posted on October 1st, 2010 by Michelle Baumann, Walt Disney World Public Relations

Disney's Vero Beach Resort on Opening Day, Oct. 1, 1995

It is hard to believe but 15 years ago today the first off-site Disney Vacation Club Resort opened on Florida’s Treasure Coast. Cast members gathered around Disney’s Vero Beach Resort to mark opening day, Oct. 1, 1995. Now 15 years later the laid back resort has changed a bit since that day — most recently adding a 1,500-square-foot spa. But for most folks, the various changes throughout the years have been subtle enough that they still feel like they are “going home.” Wonder if cast members can spot themselves in the picture.

Absolutely one of my favorite places on the planet. We started a good number of years ago adding on first 1-2 days, now 4-5 at the end of each WDW trip. The ride is quick from WDW, and we visit favorite spots along the way now. Cast is wonderful- lots to do for all ages- and it is very relaxing. Congrats to Vero on 15 years.

We went there this year for Spring Break after discovering it was only 10 minutes from my grandmother! It was a wonderful stay & we will consider staying there everytime we go to visit her – hopefully once a year. (We live in Indiana.) I will definitely take advantage of the Spa – it would have been great to experience it last time!

What part of Florida is this hotel located in? (I’ve never heard of anyplace called the “Treasure Coast”) Is it close to Disney World at all? I never knew Disney operated hotels off-property before, as I thought the Aulani resort in Hawaii was the first one. How novel.

I thought that the Hilton Head resort was the first off site DVC resort. When did it open?

Disney’s Vero Beach Resort is located 2 hours south east of Orlando. It is a great place to relax. I have worked there for almost 11 years, and I love it. I love seeing our guests come back each year. It’s like seeing family. :)

@Paul — HHI opened on March 1st, 2006; the second of the first two off-site DVC’s

@Thor — since you’re from CA, I’ll forgive you for not knowing that the treasure coast spans the Atlantic Coast of Florida from around Sebastian to just north of Palm Beach. So called due the number of pirate vessels that were allegedly wrecked off these shores. I want to say it used to be considered almost all the way up to Cocoa Beach, but that area is now considered part of the Space Coast.

Happy Anniversary, VB. We visited during our honeymoon in 1997 staying in a 1BR waking up each morning to the sunrise over the Atlantic, and have been back a few times since. Perfect way to relax after a week at the World.

We have been DVC Members for 5 years now and absolutely love the Vero Beach resort. We feel like family there and my kids know most of the staff members on a first name basis. There is so much to do there for the whole family and now with the new “Spa” inside the resort we can’t wait to get back. Congrats Disney’s Vero Beach resort on 15 years and we look forward to many more getaways there.
