The Citizens of Hollywood – ‘Star Power, Live and In Person’

posted on November 30th, 2010 by Gene Duncan, Photographer, Walt Disney World Resort

You will be amazed at the variety of talent that you will encounter along Hollywood Boulevard and Sunset Boulevard at Disney’s Hollywood Studios, from the oh-so-dramatic wannabe Mimi Kaboom to the “been there, done that” veteran Tallulah Frutti, both charming in their own ways.

If you happen upon that colorful Hollywood Talent Agent Jack Diamond as he sets a card table onto the pavement, you are in for a dazzling display of card tricks and sleight of hand. He’s really good! They say, “If you haven’t become famous in Hollywood, it’s because you don’t know Jack!”

And now, the crème de la crème, a face (and voice) you will never forget- the #1 Cleaning Lady to the Stars and self-professed Marilyn look-alike, ROSIE! “Today is my 23rd birthday – I’m a hot potato!” Sidebar…(Gentlemen – Be very cautious when approaching Rosie – she LOVES to smooch.) And thatsalotoflipstick!

‘Disney Channel Rocks’ Debuts at Disney California Adventure Park

posted on November 30th, 2010 by Heather Hust Rivera, Senior Manager, Corporate Communications, The Walt Disney Company

Last Friday, “Disney Channel Rocks,” a new rock-concert style show featuring performers who dance and sing live to music from Disney Channel shows and movies, debuted along Paradise Bay in Disney California Adventure park.

The 17-minute show includes parts of 12 songs, such as “Camp Rock,” “High School Musical,” “Cheetah Girls One World” and “Jump In,” movies as well as T.V. shows “Shake It Up” and “Hannah Montana.”

Take a peek at this video that we shot on Friday.

Did you notice the water fountains shooting up in the air?

This is the first time a stage show is using the fountains from “World of Color” as a backdrop and an additional element for a daytime show. The fountains shoot up to 200 feet in the air and definitely amp up the fun.

“Disney Channel Rocks” is currently scheduled to run several times a day on most days. Check the schedule here on disneyland.com for daily updates and to see if the show is running on the day of your visit.

An Enchanted Dinner with Snow White at Walt Disney World

posted on November 30th, 2010 by Korri McFann, Worldwide Marketing & Business Development Director, Weddings & Honeymoons

One of the best things about having a Disney’s Fairy Tale Wedding is that every aspect of your event can be perfectly themed and tailored to make your dreams become a reality. One example that comes to mind is a couple who hosted a Snow White-inspired rehearsal dinner.

Every detail of the event was inspired by the fairy tale. We turned an intimate ballroom at Disney’s BoardWalk Inn into an enchanted forest fit for a princess. Everything from the green grass place settings, to a fully operational wishing well, to a bubbling cauldron (filled with “poison” punch) was as much fun to plan as it was for the guests to attend.

As the guests entered the room, they walked through a life-size story book. Once inside, oversized trees, medieval gates and fog set the tone for a magical and mystical garden party. A life-size magic mirror watched over the guests as they wished the happy couple good luck in their new life together.

Every element of the dinner was carefully crafted to reflect the beloved story. A special cake was designed just for this event that was adorned with “poison” fondant apples. Of course, this event wouldn’t have been complete without a surprise appearance by all seven dwarfs, the Evil Queen and Snow White.

While this is one example of a fairy tale come true, you can work with your Wedding Planner to bring nearly any fantasy to life. If you can dream it, we can do it! To learn more about rehearsal dinners and planning your Disney’s Fairy Tale Wedding, please visit www.disneyweddings.com today!

Leslie Nielsen’s 1961 Visit to Disneyland Park

posted on November 29th, 2010 by George Savvas, Public Relations Director, Disneyland Resort

Actor Leslie Nielsen

Actor Leslie Nielsen passed away over the weekend at the age of 84. We have a publicity photo of Mr. Nielsen in our archive and I’m sharing it with you this morning in remembrance of this very funny and talented man.

The photo was taken at the Submarine Voyage at Disneyland park in 1961. At the time, Mr. Nielsen was starring as Revolutionary War fighter Francis Marion in “The Swamp Fox,” an eight-episode series shown during “Walt Disney Presents” on ABC.

I watched a little bit of this classic series this morning, and as someone who grew up knowing him mostly for his comedic roles, it was great fun to see him in a dramatic one for Disney.

posted on November 29th, 2010 by Jean Volante, Manager of Dream Making, Disney Floral & Gifts/DEG

What are two things we all want at Christmas? The ability to make dreams come true and create memories. That’s why guests come from all over the world to experience the holidays at Disney Parks. But this year, with the help of Mickey and Minnie and Disney Floral & Gifts, we can help you take your holiday experience one step further – right into your very own Walt Disney World Resort room and perhaps for some, even their home.

Imagine coming back to your room to discover that Mickey and Minnie have created a holiday In-Room Celebration prepared just for you and your loved ones. This personalized over-the-top celebration is called “Dreaming of a Disney Christmas.” It’s full of so many gifts and surprises and it makes you feel like all of Disney has stopped to create a warm welcome just for you.

Rainy Day Reflections at Disneyland Park

posted on November 29th, 2010 by Paul Hiffmeyer, Chief Photographer for Public Relations, Disneyland Resort

With the rain we’ve had this past week, it got me thinking about some fun photos I took a few years ago after it had rained here at the Disneyland Resort. It doesn’t rain often, so I have to take advantage of the few opportunities I have.

The two photos that I decided to share have a few things in common. They both focus on puddles and contain a minimum amount of information in the reflection, but I think most, if not all, of you should still know where they were taken.

Do You Have the Time? Mickey Mouse Watches at Disney Parks

posted on November 29th, 2010 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

Modern Easy Reader Watches of the 'Timex for Disney' Collection

Do you remember your first Disney watch? I do. It was a Mickey Mouse watch that had a blue nylon band. I must have been about four or five when I received it, and I still have it today. Disney watches have quite a history. In 1933, Timex (then the Waterbury Clock Company), produced the very first Mickey Mouse clocks and watches under an exclusive license from Disney. Mickey Mouse timepieces were introduced to the public at the Chicago World’s Fair in June 1933 and quickly became a hit with fans of the little mouse. Some of those early watches are wonderful collectors’ items today (show of hands – do you have one?). I am excited to share that Disney Theme Park Merchandise has partnered with Timex to create a new “Timex for Disney” collection. I spoke with Lindsay Voigt, product developer for timepieces, about this collection coming to Disney Parks (and on-line) in December.

T-Series Chronograph Watches of the 'Timex for Disney' Collection

“I’ve been working on this partnership since January 2010,” explained Lindsay. “Timex watches are well-known and well-made with both classic and trendy designs. It seemed like a perfect fit to introduce this collection to the Disney Parks.”

Of the several different watch styles that will be introduced, I find it challenging to pick my favorite. I like the Modern Easy Reader style pictured at the top of this article as it reminds me of that watch I had as a kid. The T-Series Chronographs are pictured next. I like their simplistic style with a nice contemporary Mickey Mouse accent. Lindsay told me about her favorites.

Timex Classic Digital Watches of the 'Timex for Disney' Collection

“I have a difficult time selecting just one design,” said Lindsay. “Each design has elements and details that make the watch unique. If I had to pick one, I like the gold classic digital watch. It reminds me of the kind of watch that my grandfather and father had.”

Artwork for these watches was created by artists from Disney Design Group. Some of Lindsay’s inspiration came from classic Mickey Mouse designs to some recent urban inspired graphics seen in other merchandise categories like the “Oh Mickey!” program.

Modern Original Camper Watches of the 'Timex for Disney' Collection

“I also like the Modern Original Camper designs,” continued Lindsay. “The nylon bands are sportier than the Modern Easy Reader design. I’m happy that we are offering a variety of designs. Being the developer for timepieces, I like pairing great watches with my outfits. Now I have lots of choices.”

To launch the “Timex for Disney” collection, we are holding two special events. In Florida, an event will be held at the World of Disney Store on December 4. In California, we will hold an event on December 11 in the Fortuosity Shop at Disneyland park. At both events, there will be a representative from Timex to discuss the new watches and answer questions. We will also be offering these watches on our Disney Parks On-Line Store.

So, it’s time to return to my first question. Do you remember your first Disney watch, or do you seen one pictured above that is a must-have?

Megan Fox & Brian Austin Green at Magic Kingdom Park

Here’s something you may have missed over the Thanksgiving weekend. Actor Brian Austin Green and his wife, actress/model Megan Fox, dropped by and spent a part of their holiday at the Walt Disney World Resort. We caught up with the couple as they stopped to snap a photo in front of Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park.

Who else was in the parks over the Thanksgiving holiday?
