Welcome aboard!

Mickey Mouse welcomes guests aboard the maiden voyage of the Disney Dream

After several years of planning, construction and preparation, the Disney Dream sets sail today on her official maiden voyage to the Bahamas. Let’s all say it together: Whoo hoo!

It’s the start of an exciting new era for Disney Cruise Line and we couldn’t be more excited to share it with you here on the Disney Parks Blog. Several correspondents will capture all the hoopla aboard the ship and around Florida’s Port Canaveral so check back Thursday for a full report on the festivities.

In the meantime, you probably want to see some of what guests will be enjoying over the next several days, right? Take a look:

Whether you’re a toddler, teenager or grownup, there’s something for everyone on the Disney Dream. From fun clubs for kids and teens to nightclubs and lounges exclusively for adults, the ship is a terrific mix of imagination, innovation and pixie dust. See for yourself:

Magic PlayFloor inside Disney’s Oceaneer Lab Enchanted Garden restaurant Edge, a club exclusively for kids 11-13 Andy’s Room within Disney’s Oceaneer Club
Animator’s Palate restaurant The cast of “Disney’s Believe” Evolution, a nightclub for adults only Vibe, a club exclusively for teens 14-17

Now then… Arrrr ya a fan of salty old pirates?

I hope so, because on a special night during every cruise the Disney Dream becomes a pirate ship filled with swashbuckling fun for all ages!

Guests enjoying Mickey’s Pirates IN the Caribbean

The night starts with “Mickey’s Pirates IN the Caribbean,” an interactive show featuring some of your favorite Disney characters. Guests become members of Mickey’s Pirate Crew in a series of pirate-themed musical numbers out on the ship’s pool deck.

The party continues with a special appearance by Captain Jack Sparrow to kick off “Club Pirate,” an open-air dance party featuring stunning visuals and special effects.

The 'Buccaneer Blast' Fireworks Spectacular

Finally, to top it all off we’re debuting a brand-new fireworks spectacular at sea called “Buccaneer Blast!” Choreographed to a dramatic score including songs from “Pirates of the Caribbean” (the hit movies and the classic theme park attraction), it’s an unforgettable mix of sound and color in an unbeatable location.

All you landlubbers should check back tomorrow for an exclusive report from the maiden voyage. For everyone stepping aboard the Disney Dream today, bon voyage!

  • Most of our family is cruising on the March 13th voyage. Two sets of grandparents, daughters and granddaughter, then meeting other daughter and granddaughter at WDW. What a life.

  • My wife, Son, and I went out to the port to see the Dream depart on her maiden voyage. It was a Beautiful sight and we are so looking forward to our cruise on July 24th.

  • i cant wait till march 3rd …its going so slow

  • I am so excited! We leave Feb.3rd….have to get out of this MN cold! My 10 yr and 5 year old know nothing about it……they think my husband and I are going snowmobiling on the north shore. BRRRRRRR! They will be soo excited!!! It will be our 4th DCL cruise, but from what I hear….this might be the best 🙂

  • We Sail on the Disney Dream February 3 for a Bahama weekend then back for the Superbowl (We’re from Milwaukee) Go Pack Go I can’t wait till next week it is gonna be so much fun!!!!

  • This looks AMAZING! I can’t wait til I get to go(:

  • I didn’t see the Flying Dutchman in the photo at Castaway Cay…is it no longer there?

  • Yes we are sure she will have a blast. We told her 5 years ago when we went to WDW for her 5th bday (btw really nice lunch with the princesses) that it in 5 years we will do something else. Which she must not remember):) @Patricia Thanks and that has already been setup when the cruise got booked a couple months ago. Come on Feb 10th already.

  • 11 more days for me! I’m really looking forward to my first ever Disney cruise and this ship looks pretty sweet!

  • We will be sailing on Sunday and can’t wait. We will be celebrating my daughters 40th birthday.
TO Sara from MN. Call the cruise line, they will setup a really spectacular birthday for your little girl. You have to let them know in advance to get everything. She will remember it forever! Enjoy. I know we will.

  • OMG! Please bring back the Flying Dutchman or the Pearl!! That was one of the most magical things about Castaway Cay!! I hope it’s only gone for filming as one post said. And to Sara – your daughter will have a blast!! The kids clubs look even more amazing on the Dream. When we were on the Wonder, my daughter, who was 8 at the time, never wanted to leave the Oceaneer Lab – she stayed till closing every night!

  • Excited as ever. My family leaves on Feb. 10 (2 weeks) The days get longer is it gets closer to launch. Bringing our 9 year old daughter on her first cruise (turns 10 the day after landing) and she has no idea about it until we get to Florida. 😉

  • The Dream is way more than what was promised. I’m pretty sure it has raised the bar to other non-Disney vesels. There is no way you can enjoy it all in one cruise. I hope you will have longer itineraries some day. We are going to the Med Cruise on the Magic on Aug 20th and will book the Dream while on board for the Dec 2012 NYE Cruise; I hope DCL has that date opene by then. See you soon Dream.

  • I just got off the Dream on the 3 night Preview Cruise!
All I can say is WONDERFUL!
The ship is more beautiful than you can even image.
Book your cruise today as you are not going to want to miss
    this ship!

  • i think the ship isnt there cuz there filming

  • Hi Betty – we just came back from Castaway last Saturday the 22nd and the pirate ship is not there 🙁 we went on a Disney Cruise in 2009 and we did see it then, hopefully it is just being repaired or something, we enjoyed looking at the Flying Dutchman!

  • OH MY GOODNESS THE DREAM IS ALSO GOING TO HAVE A Pirate night? this is wonderful and I also noted the pirate ship was missing from CASTAWAY CAY. WILL IT BE BACK PLEASE?

This is wonderful to know the Dream has Pirate night and those new fire works are going to be just awesome. Can’t wait for my friend to return from this first cruise to get all the scoop and I see the blue skies opened up today to let you sail out in full glory. Have a great first Cruise

  • Yeah, they took down the Flying Dutchman. My brother was there in November and they were dismantling it. I have friends who’ve already sailed on the Dream. They were only weekend cruises, so I guess they didn’t count as “maiden voyages”?

  • Being a Castaway club and veteran of Disney cruises,I really enjoyed the live feed from the christening of the Disney Dream and the great pictures posted. I didn’t see the pirate ship anchored at castaway Cay. Is it not there anymore? Looking forward to taking a cruise with Disney again in the future.Bon voyage on her maiden voyage.
