Galactic Offerings Await You at The Star Trader at Disneyland Resort

posted on April 11th, 2011 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

UPDATE — April 26: Star Trader is scheduled to reopen on May 6.

With the official countdown to the re-opening of Star Tours underway, I thought I’d take you to a galaxy not too far away from this fan favorite attraction, The Star Trader. About a month ago, I learned this popular merchandise location would be re-opening on May 4. So for the past couple of weeks I’ve been using every Jedi mind trick I can to find out more about what will be “in store” for you in May and beyond.

Star Tours Opening Day Shirt

How many of you remember the X-Wing Fighter that once hung in the Star Trader location? Well, I’m proud to say, it’s back! Be the first to see it when the shop re-opens, May 4.

Whether you’re preparing to battle the dark side or you’re just practicing your Jedi skills, here a few tips that will better prepare you for your journey to some of the new destinations.

Build Your Own Lightsaber – Padawans must use the Force to guide their hands in making a new Lightsaber. Just select the hilt, emitter, blade color, switch, ring, hilt sleeve and adapter and become the envy of Jedi’s everywhere.

Star Wars - Build Your Own Lightsaber

In late May, you will find a galaxy of new Star Tours and Star Wars inspired-apparel, toys and more that will reach their final destinations on our store shelves. Here’s a quick peek at one of the Disneyland Resort-specific items that will be available, but I promised fellow bloggers, Dara Trujillo and Steven Miller, that I wouldn’t show anything else. I can assure you, that their Disney Parks Blog posts will be worth the wait. Not only will they show you some other great apparel and toy items coming your way, but Dara also has the inside scoop on everything merchandise-related for Star Wars Weekends at Disney’s Hollywood Studios.

Passholders, I assure you the Force is strong! There is an entire collection of Star Tours merchandise being made just for you. Here’s what I consider one of the “must-have” passholder items that will be available in late May. As soon as I get an official release date, I’ll let you know. And wait until you see the rest.

Very cool!

I’m glad that the X-Wing Fighter will be used. For so many years it remained hanging in the upstairs portion of the Starcade.

I cannot wait for the opening of Star Tours, I’m really excited, and on Saturday I saw the new attraction sign, it looks really snazzy.

I love the Star tours opening day shirts! Will they be selling at Disneyland opening day only as well as the pen?

Michelle Harker on April 11th, 2011 at 6:20 pm

Hey Ashley! The shirts are set to debut at The Star Trader in Tomorrowland at the Disneyland Resort in conjunction with the re-opening of the attraction. As for the Passholder Commemorative Collection which includes the pen (shown above), be sure to keep watching http://www.ArtofDisneyParks.com in the coming weeks, as we’ll be releasing more details about the collection, as well as the date it will hit store shelves.

Any chance of this stuff being available on May the 4th? LOL Just wondering…

Michelle Harker on April 11th, 2011 at 6:23 pm

Hi Christian! These items won’t be available until late May/ early June. However we’ll have a lot of other great things ‘in store’ for you when the shop re-opens.

Fred from CA on April 11th, 2011 at 3:22 pm

Danielle–
Star Tours opens June 3rd.

Elizabeth from TN on April 11th, 2011 at 4:10 pm

Danielle,

It actually opens on May 20th. I’d be willing to be that there will be a soft opening the week before!

Mark from CA on April 11th, 2011 at 4:37 pm

Elizabeth – At Walt Disney World, Star Tours opens May 20th, at Disneyland it opens on June 3rd.

So excited the X-Wing is back and not above the Starcade anymore!

Tiffany from WA on April 11th, 2011 at 4:42 pm

Fred and Elizabeth are both right, Danielle.

Star Tours at Disney World officially opens May 20th
Star Tours at Disneyland officially opens June 3rd.

Fred from CA on April 11th, 2011 at 4:46 pm

Elizabeth–
I was actually referring to the opening date of Star Tours at Disneyland. Star Tours at Disneyland opens June 3rd.

Since this blog post is filed under Disneyland Resort, (and talks about Disneyland specific merchandise) I assumed that it was the Disneyland attraction that Danielle was asking about.

Fred is correct. Star Tours: The Adventures Continue opens May 20th at the Walt Disney World Resort, and on June 3rd at the Disneyland Resort, to coincide with the opening of The Little Mermaid: Ariel’s Undersea Adventure at Disney California Adventure.
Hope this helps!

Any news on the Large Scale Starspeeder 1000 Playset?

Michelle Harker on April 12th, 2011 at 1:20 pm

Hey Edward! I’d love to share more news with you, but I know that fellow bloggers Steven Miller and Dara Trujillo are hard at work collecting information on all things Star Tours and they’ll be sharing details with you shortly. Keep watching the blogs!

Michelle: Christian was joking with you. May 4th is Star Wars day online. As in:

May the 4th be with you!

lol

Michelle Harker on April 12th, 2011 at 1:14 pm

Thanks Terry! LOL! So glad that you clued me in. I totally missed that. Apparently the force is not strong with this one. HA!

I am confused – all the things say “Star Tours”.

So – what is the official name? “Star Tours”? “Star Tours 2″? “Star Tours 2.0″? “Star Tours: The Adventures Continue”?
