Love ‘Cars’? Don’t Miss Downtown Disney Car Masters Weekend

posted on April 26th, 2011 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Editorial Content Manager

Attention all “Cars” fans – I’ve got a great announcement for you tonight. The Disney Parks Blog just got word that the gang from Radiator Springs will head this way next month for a brand new event – Downtown Disney Car Masters Weekend – which will take place May 13-15, from 10:30 a.m.-6 p.m.

Love ‘Cars’? Don’t Miss Downtown Disney Car Masters Weekend

Four-time Piston Cup Champion, Lightning McQueen, Mater and British super-spy, Finn McMissile will hit the road to celebrate the release of Disney•Pixar’s “Cars 2.” At Downtown Disney Car Masters Weekend, families can hang out with Lightning, Mater and Finn McMissile, plus take part in all sorts of fun “Cars” activities, including a video kiosk, e-photo opportunities and games.

Along with meeting some their favorite characters from “Cars,” families can “test drive” and purchase new “Cars 2” RIDEMAKERZ models. Always wanted to see what Mater would look like as a 4×4? Mix, match and design your very own unique “Cars 2” vehicle.

Families can also throw their love for cars in “reverse” and go back in time to check out dozens of classic cars on display Saturday and Sunday, that helped shape the vehicles we drive today. Or check out the original “Cars” film, which will play on the big screen all weekend at the AMC Downtown Disney 24.

I am really looking forward to Cars 2.

I noticed the logo says May 14 & 15, will this also be taking place on the 13th?

It’s a shame that Disneyland’s Downtown Disney will not be having such an awesome. After all, Disney California Adventure is getting Cars Land in 2012.

Cheryl on April 28th, 2011 at 3:31 pm

I agree with Ingrid. You would think that they would come to Disneyland.

Brian from CA on April 28th, 2011 at 3:34 pm

Yea what about DLR?

We’re so excited, and we’ll definitely be heading out to Orlando sometime that weekend. I was jealous to hear that California is getting Cars Land, but according to some Disney employees that we chatted with a couple weeks ago, supposedly Florida will eventually be getting something very similar a couple years down the road in 2013 or 2014.

Is this the same thing that made a tour around the US that was sponsored by State Farm?

Kristin from IL on April 29th, 2011 at 10:36 am

why isn’t this the weekend of the Cars 2 opening? Will there be other events that weekend June 24? Disappointed – our vacation missed Star Wars weekends by one week, was really hoping for an awesome Cars 2 event for opening day.

Damien from Cheshire on April 29th, 2011 at 3:23 pm

We’ll be there over that weekend (visiting from the UK), can’t wait to check out Lightning & Co. and the classic cars on display – plus it’s at DTD… fantastic!

I have to say, I am really looking forward to Cars Land at California Adventure! :)

I tried to pre purchase tickets for Cars on the big screen. It isn’t even listed. Is there a reason why we can’t buy them yet?

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on May 2nd, 2011 at 11:17 am

Did you try to buy tickets for the “Cars” showing at AMC Pleasure Island, or are your trying to pre-purchase tickets for “Cars 2″?

So from what I’m getting from this, is that Mater and McQueen will “be there” for kids to take pics with like they have at Hollywood studios (which is boarded up right now I beleive)
