Check Out These LEGO Creations at Downtown Disney Marketplace

posted on May 23rd, 2011 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

I loved playing with LEGO bricks when I was a child. So I was very excited to see the latest editions to the Lego Imagination Center shop at the Downtown Disney Marketplace over the weekend.

Prince Philip Battles Maleficent at Downtown Disney Marketplace

Several new LEGO sculptures have been added to the exterior of the building that depict just how creative you can get with LEGO bricks. Each sculpture highlights an important moment from popular Disney and Disney•Pixar films, such as this one from “Sleeping Beauty.” Here, Prince Philip battles a towering Maleficent in the final battle scene from the film.

Buzz Lightyear and Woody Use the RC Racer to Catch Andy at Downtown Disney Marketplace

Another highlights an adventurous moment from the original “Toy Story” movie, when Buzz Lightyear and Woody use the RC Racer (and a firecracker) to catch up with Andy’s moving van.

The Seven Dwarfs and Their Diamond Mine at Downtown Disney Marketplace

Two other sculptures are taken from “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs,” including one of the Dwarfs and their diamond mine and another of Snow White kissing Dopey.

Two of the shop’s original LEGO brick sculptures – the family of tourists and Brickley The Sea Serpent – are still there, as well.

These are awesome! Any information on the design process and where they are assembled?

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on May 24th, 2011 at 8:53 am

I’m still trying to track down some fun facts on the sculptures. If I can find stats like these, I’ll be happy to share.

My family had the pleasure of visiting Downtown Disney for the first time last week. The Lego store was appealing even for my teenagers and the Sleeping Beauty sculpture featuring Maleficent and the Prince was their favorite! We had no idea they were new additions. How cool that we were able to see them!

We were so sad to find the store in its temporary digs in February, but we can’t wait to see the new store with our very own Lego master “Gramps” when we visit next time!

Amazing! We manage to entertain ourselves for a full day at Downtown Disney every time we visit Disney World, and a long stop at the Lego store for my son to play, and the rest of us to rest, and take pictures, is an important part of that day.

These are so epic! I can’t wait to see them in July when I visit. My friend works at the Lego store there, so there is no way I can miss it.

I think my 11 year old is looking forward to seeing the new Lego store more than anything else when we visit in July. He’s been saving for a year, since we told him we were going. Thankfully, Sosa’s is close by, so I can enjoy some dad time while mom takes him shopping.

I’m very excited about the new lego creations at Downtown Disney. BUT, I am disappointed that the “hidden mickey” was no longer apart of the touring family creation. It used to be on the dalmation… Did they put a new one somewhere else by any chance?

31

Lisa on May 24th, 2011 at 6:03 pm

These are wonderful! Sure puts to shame anything I’ve ever built with Legos! =)

32

These are fantastic!! We were in Walt Disney World in February and did not know the Lego store was closed. The boys were very disappointed, and look forward to going back. They are very impressed with the new sculputures!
