posted on May 6th, 2011 by Erin Glover, Social Media Director, Disneyland Resort

UPDATE 5/16: Congratulations to all who were randomly selected to attend the “Star Tours Early Departure” at Disneyland park on May 20. Notifications have been sent to all who entered for a chance to attend. If you have any questions, please ask in the comments and we’ll do our best to answer. Keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for more upcoming events.

UPDATE: Thanks to all who entered for a chance to attend the “Star Tours Early Departure” at Disneyland park on May 20. The entry period is now closed, and eligibility confirmations are being sent to those who were randomly selected to participate.

We are very excited to provide the opportunity for Disney Parks Blog fans to be among the first in the galaxy to experience the new 3-D attraction at Disneyland Resort, before it officially opens June 3. In order to allow the randomly selected, eligible participants to experience the attraction when Disneyland park opens at 9:00 a.m., event check-in will be from 4 – 7:30 a.m. Good news – Toy Story parking lot will be available to eligible participants starting at 3:30 a.m. (parking fees not included). To commemorate the flight, participants will receive a button proclaiming them to be among the first to experience the new 3-D attraction at Disneyland park.

Star Tours Event at Disneyland Resort, You Want?

As you have heard through many galactic transmissions, the creative forces of Disney and Lucasfilm Ltd. have joined to create new spaceports that will be home to 3-D Star Tours attractions at Walt Disney World Resort and Disneyland Resort.

As we prepare to open these new spaceports, you have learned this week that Rebel forces have managed to enact secret plans to give Disney Parks Blog readers the opportunity to be on the very first departures of Star Tours Flight #1401.

On Thursday, Thomas Smith invited you to a special Star Tours Meet-Up at Walt Disney World Resort in Florida. To celebrate the opening of “Star Tours – The Adventures Continue” at Disneyland Resort, we are inviting 1,200 of you (and a guest) to be among the first in the galaxy to experience the new 3-D attraction at Disneyland park on May 20.

Now through Monday, May 9, at 11:59 p.m. (PDT), you can enter for a chance to attend the “Star Tours Early Departure” at Disneyland park. We will randomly select 1,200 entries, and those selected will be able to bring one guest to experience Star Tours at Disneyland park on May 20. (Please see official rules for eligibility requirements. We will notify you via email if you are selected.)

Enter now. I’d wish you luck, but as Obi-Wan Kenobi so famously said, “…in my experience, there’s no such thing as luck.”

I remember when Star Tours 1st opened. I was around 7 or 8 years old & I 1st saw the commercial for the ride….”MOM! THEY REALLY TAKE YOU INTO OUTER SPACE!” hahahahaha
Now I’m 32 & CAN NOT WAIT FOR THIS TO OPEN!

Ms. Glover — I noticed we have to show a valid ID if we are one of the lucky winners… my concern is that my email address has my maiden name — is this a problem? Please advise..

Letty from CA on May 9th, 2011 at 6:25 pm

If selected does that mean we only have between 9:00am and 12:00pm to ride Star Tours? My husband goes out of town that week on business and returns the 20th at 2pm, i think he’ll be jealous of me if i go without him, ha ha

55

Anita on May 9th, 2011 at 6:48 pm

57

Victoria on May 10th, 2011 at 1:15 am

My son and I went to Disneyland in March and were sad Star Tours was closed but we were excited about the reopening. This is our favorite ride. I’m looking foward to seeing the changes.

Jaime on May 10th, 2011 at 12:13 pm

When was the Little Mermaid preview? :(

59

Kristyn on May 10th, 2011 at 6:17 pm

Is the confirmation an email from creativezing? Asking for our address?

Erin Glover on May 11th, 2011 at 9:44 am

Yes, Creative Zing is handling the sweepstakes communication on our behalf. Please be sure to respond within the alloted time!

Lynnette on May 10th, 2011 at 6:48 pm

64

Michelle on May 11th, 2011 at 12:10 am

It says that we have to be 18 to enter (which I am) but can my guest be under 18…ie…my son (10 years old)?

Erin Glover on May 13th, 2011 at 3:34 pm

Your guest may be under the age of 18 as long as they meet the age/height requirements of the attraction. All riders must be at least 40″ tall to experience this attraction. However, only adults age 18 and older are eligible to enter the sweepstakes.

Emi from CA on May 11th, 2011 at 10:33 am

If we did not receive an email yesterday, does this mean that we did not win? Or will more confirmation emails be sent out?

66

Natalie on May 11th, 2011 at 12:05 pm

I got an email yesterday; Per my email time; I did it at hour 16 of the sent time; doesn’t does this mean I got it? or does this mean I am in the last drawing? just curious?
thanks!

67

Natalie on May 11th, 2011 at 12:07 pm

@Lynnette: did it say your in? or ask for more information? I am keeping an eye on the email so that i don’t miss it; and so that @Creative Zing doesn’t go to my spam.

68

Catherine from CA on May 11th, 2011 at 12:22 pm

I received an email from Creative Zing but my name is not on the list.

69

April on May 11th, 2011 at 12:28 pm

My email must be broken because I did not get a confirmation lol

70

Adam from CA on May 11th, 2011 at 12:45 pm

Sorry if this has been asked/answered. Is there admission to the park required to be purchased for the day?

Erin Glover on May 13th, 2011 at 3:41 pm

Admission is required to enter Disneyland park and will be provided to each winner and their guest as they are escorted into the park.

71

April on May 11th, 2011 at 1:03 pm

Winner and their guest will both get a 1 park (Disneyland) ticket for that day.

My email is still broken …… no confirmation

72

Kristyn on May 11th, 2011 at 1:27 pm

@Catherine, I just freaked out too because my name wasn’t on that list .. but saw “Walt Disney World” on the top.. its a list of only 250, I think this one is 1200.. so they haven’t published the list yet.

73

Grega from ON on May 11th, 2011 at 1:31 pm

I understand that the 20th of May will be the grand reopening, but I’ve heard a rumor that there will be a soft opening prior for some testing. Just wondering if this is true?

Erin Glover on May 13th, 2011 at 3:42 pm

Hi Grega – Star Tours will be re-opening at Walt Disney World Resort on May 20 and at the Disneyland Resort on June 3.

74

lori on May 11th, 2011 at 3:50 pm

could we park in Chip & Dale or Pinocchio lot?

Erin Glover on May 13th, 2011 at 3:44 pm

The Toy Story lot will be the only parking available for this opportunity.

75

Julia on May 11th, 2011 at 4:09 pm

I was there for the opening weekend as well…. I was 7 years old…. Can’t wait to ride the new one!!

76

Tonya from CA on May 11th, 2011 at 4:12 pm

So is there going to be a list with the names on it? I was really hoping my son and I can go. Maybe my email isn’t working? lol

77

Laura on May 11th, 2011 at 4:28 pm

Does it take the full 24 hours to recieve the confirmation email, after replying the to email asking to verify your name and address?

78

Carrie on May 11th, 2011 at 4:40 pm

My email asked to verify my info w/a conf. # also…have not gotten the second email yet and am anxious to find out for sure…I don’t want to get my guest all excited and not be on the list. I hope it doesn’t take longer than 24 hrs. Although 1200 emails is a lot to go through.

79

Salvador on May 11th, 2011 at 4:44 pm

what if i deleted my confirmation

80

Randy on May 11th, 2011 at 5:05 pm

I think I may have deleted my message thinking it was spam mail

81

Fred from CA on May 11th, 2011 at 5:07 pm

According to the official rules;
“Potential winners will be notified by email on or about May 13, 2011.”

So, I’m hoping that I still have a chance to get the e-mail!

82

Daniel on May 11th, 2011 at 6:35 pm

I have received that email as well (requesting my # and reverifying my info) Still no confirmation. Looks like from these post that no one has received that second email confirmation. I guess I shouldn’t worry…yet.

83

Daniel on May 11th, 2011 at 6:36 pm

WOW! As soon as I posted the message above. I received the second confirmation email!

84

Laura on May 11th, 2011 at 6:43 pm

@Carrie, I am in the same boat…waiting for my second email back, to confirm. Seems like, from the posts I have seen, that a lot of people are, so like you said…probably just the fact that they have 1200 emails to go through! =o)

85

Luke on May 11th, 2011 at 6:48 pm

Will we be able to stay in the park for the remainder of the day after the preview?

Erin Glover on May 13th, 2011 at 4:06 pm

After your experience on Star Tours, you are free to spend the rest of the day in Disneyland park.

86

Joseph from CA on May 11th, 2011 at 7:10 pm

Received my confirmation e-mail today! TWICE!
I’m going to be there bright and early next Friday morning

87

Nicole on May 11th, 2011 at 7:30 pm

I am very excited to be one of the winners!! I do have a couple of questions that I could not find an answer for. Does the guest have to be 18? Also, with me will be my husband and three young kids. One of them will be my guest, the other three will buy tickets (We are turning this into a mini vacation!). What time will we be able to ride? Can we ride other rides while we wait? Thanks!!

Erin Glover on May 13th, 2011 at 4:09 pm

Hi Nicole,

Your guest may be under the age of 18 as long as they meet the age/height requirements of the attraction. All riders must be at least 40″ tall to experience this attraction. However, only adults age 18 and older are eligible to enter the sweepstakes.

Only your guest will be able to enter Disneyland park with you. The rest of your party must enter the park when it opens at 9 am. After your experience on Star Tours, you are free to spend the rest of the day in
Disneyland park.

91

Angel on May 11th, 2011 at 8:11 pm

I had to forfeit my win :( I have class until 2 p.m. so I won’t be able to attend during the time allocated for the event. Hope my place gets to go to someone else! Good luck.

92

Natalie on May 11th, 2011 at 8:11 pm

I got my confirmation email this afternoon. Once u do the reply to the first one. They will send out more. So good luck!!! And I’ll see you there!!!

93

Natalie on May 11th, 2011 at 8:14 pm

@grega. From my understanding of conformation email. This is the preview for recording and promotional stuff as well. Not just to ride. They will be filming and everything. Actual opening is June 3rd 2 weeks post

94

Caroline on May 11th, 2011 at 8:23 pm

Armando at CreativeZing e-mailed me and said I was eligible to be among the first to experience Star Tours. Did I win or am I just still eligible to win?

95

Victoria from GA on May 11th, 2011 at 8:35 pm

Oh Yes!! I got lucky and won the trip for Star Tours!!… I have 3 kids, who do I pick???? How can I bring them as my guest??? I have a 8, 10, and 15 year old. What would MICKEY do????

Erin Glover on May 13th, 2011 at 4:17 pm

Hi Victoria,

I’m sorry, but each winner may only bring one Guest. No additional Guests will be admitted even if they will not be experiencing the attraction.

Star Tours opens at Disneyland park on June 3, so I encourage you to bring all of your sons to experience the attraction at that time.

96

Janis on May 11th, 2011 at 8:46 pm

we got our conformation e-mail today and room reservations so we dont have to drive early to the park

97

PETER from CA on May 11th, 2011 at 9:01 pm

The old ride was one of my favorites! I remember once on the ride, the audio feed malfunctioned. But instead of being disappointed, the audience started reciting the lines and making the sounds! So glad this is coming back, and also that I got picked!

98

Victoria from GA on May 11th, 2011 at 9:04 pm

I got in!!! So states the email I recived!!! I was reading on your blog and Disney World had a list of winners, does Disney Land have a list?? Just want to make sure:-)
Also I have 3 boys,(8,10,14,) who are fussing over who I will take with me. Is there any way to bring each of them? They each love Star Tours ride. HELP! As a mother what do I do….As a mother I wish I could allow them to go in my place, but I don’t think you will allow them to attend without an adult:-) Any help you can give me would be awesome!!! Thanks so much!!!!

99

melissa on May 11th, 2011 at 9:55 pm

Both my cousin and I got confirmations ! Yay ! Does this mean both us and our guests get to ride Star Tours May 20th, even if we aren’t chosen for the first flight ?

100

Matthew on May 11th, 2011 at 10:25 pm

Got my second email (two in fact for some reason). Wow…we need to be there in the WEE hours of the morning…in fact, might as well just go to the park Thursday and then go stand in line right as soon as it closes for the day ;)

By the way, how many times are we going to be allowed to “experience” Star Tours given that there are 56 different combinations. I am assuming just once, but it would be nice if they surprised us….

Erin Glover on May 13th, 2011 at 4:18 pm

Each Guest will be able to ride the attraction once as part of this event.
