I know many of you are Star Wars fans, and above all, Disney fans! So what do you get when those two things come together? Two very special Sci-Fi Academy-themed pin release and signings are taking place this summer at the Disneyland Resort.
In one of my recent posts about Disney Pins, I gave you a heads up to “mark your calendars” for July 9 and August 6. Here’s a glimpse at some of the pins that will be released at each event.
First up, A Piece of Alderaan History. What does that mean exactly? Well, any Star Wars fan will tell you, that Alderaan was once home to Princess Leia, a peaceful planet that met its untimely demise when Grand Moff Tarkin demonstrated the power of the Death Star in Star Wars: Episode IV A New Hope. Our product development team cleverly created a pin featuring Darth Vader that contains a representation of the planet Alderaan.

What else do we have “in store” for you for during the July release and signing with artist Casey Jones? How about Disneyland Resort attraction-themed postcard and pin sets featuring some of your favorite characters, like nutty Chip ‘n’ Dale in Rocket to the Moon or Pluto and the Flying Saucers. You can also look forward to a special limited edition set of four pins which comes complete in what is being called The New Century Compendium of the Extraordinary – Volume I.
Tip: Online wristbands for the opportunity to purchase these pins is taking place now through June 29.

Too much PINformation, or are you ready for more? How about a quick look at some of the pins that will be released at the August event, which feature memorable quotes and images from iconic Star Wars films. Here’s a special note: We just learned that Artist and Global Creativity & Innovation Director Chris Chapman will be on hand for a special appearance and signing on August 6.
Tip: The online wristband opportunity to purchase these Star Wars quotes pins begins July 15.
So now you’re in the know for all events this summer related to pins. And if you’re looking for other fun places to trade during your visit to the Resort, Come Out and Trade takes place daily from 1:30-3:30 p.m. at Westward Ho Trading Co. in Frontierland at Disneyland park. Or you can jet over to Fly ‘n’ Buy in Disney California Adventure park where there is a special area for you to trade stories and pins with fellow fans.

I recieved my confirmation e-mail today, and I am so excited for this opportunity! I have a quick question, similar to the question above me.
Do you know of any other options for blocked out passholders, besides the all-day $59 parkhopper ticket? (i.e. If we don’t plan on spending the whole day at both parks, but wish to make these purchases in the morning?), I can see how that might make things complicated, but I thank you in advance, and I hope you have a magical day! 🙂
I noticed that my pass is blocked the day the pins come out. Is it going to be like the Star Tours preview? Where I can get in if my pass is blocked. Thanks!!
Hey there! Sorry for the delay in my response. Unfortunately that is a block out day. The best thing that I can recommend, and hopefully this will help Marcelle too, is to get a discounted blockout day Disneyland Resort Park Hopper ticket at one of our ticket booths.
So these pins are *only* available on the release dates if you pay the $70 to get into the exhibit? It looks like there is also a drawing for the chance to buy these pins as well? I’m very confused. Will these pins be available for general purchase after the events are over, or do you have to be one of the lucky chosen few and/or pay the $70? Thank you!

Hi Nick! Just to clarify, the Sci Fi Academy event you are mentioning is actually taking place tomorrow in the Exhibit Hall at the Disneyland Hotel. Walk up tickets for that event are still available. Registration at the Exhibit Hall ends tonight at 7pm and re-opens tomorrow at 7am.
The pins that I mentioned in the post above are actually being released in July and August. If you are interested in the July pins, here is the link with details on the Piece of Alderaan and how to participate in the online wristband process.

Online wristband distribution is currently open for the July 9th pin release. The entry period ends on June 29. Here’s the link for more information. http://eventservices.disney.go.com/pintrading/pin?id=57886
There’s a section on there that will allow you to register for the wristband. As for the August pins (Star Wars quotes), the online registration period for those pins will begin on July 15 and end on July 27. Hope that helps.
