New Spin on a Disney Classic!

posted on June 9th, 2011 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

Lightning McQueen of Disney’s ‘Cars’

Here’s a unique fact that most people don’t know about me – I grew up around vintage cars. My dad, relatives and even close friends of the family are all huge car enthusiasts, each owning several classic cars, some have even been used as props in films. For my family, weekends often included watching my dad work on restoring cars or cruising around local car shows. When I saw these new pieces featuring some of Disney•Pixar’s most cherished characters for “Cars” by Custom Car Builder and Designer Chip Foose, one word came to my mind – “Ka-Chow!”

Chip has created four custom “Cars” inspired paintings featuring a few of your favorites like Doc Hudson, Ramone, Flo, Lightning McQueen and Mater in front of Disney Parks attractions and icons including Sleeping Beauty Castle and The Haunted Mansion. Some of you may have seen Chip on popular TV shows like “Overhaulin’” or know of his talent for creating amazing designs and classic cars for the automotive and car building industry.

Doc Hudson of Disney’s ‘Cars’

If you ask me, I think all four are spectacular and full of incredible detail! Seeing as how I have a soft spot in my heart for classic cars and Disney Parks, I’m pretty sure that Doc Hudson in front of The Haunted Mansion is going to find its way home with me. I think I also just found the perfect gift for my dad (spoiler alert – Dad, stop reading). I bet he’d love Mater in front of a Disneyland park locomotive or perhaps Lightning McQueen near Autopia.

Chip will be on hand for a special appearance and signing at The Disney Gallery in Disneyland park on June 25 from 9 a.m. to 11 a.m. Chip Foose’s “Cars”-inspired art will be available in a variety of formats, from original art to canvas wrapped images and deluxe prints.

A side note for Vinylmation fans: Chip has also customized a 9-inch Vinylmation figure that is sure to get your motor running. Find out all the details on this event including the signing, artwork and Vinylmation on www.ArtofDisneyParks.com.

So hit the highway, put the pedal to the metal and come on down for this exciting event. Hope to see you there!

Which Chip Foose “Cars” painting is going to race its way into your home?

I met Mr. Foose and his family at the Plaza Inn restaurant just off Main Street in DL a couple years ago. He and his wife were very cordial and we enjoyed meeting them. Great pics!

Thanks Eric! We’re really excited to have Chip here and the images are really fantastic! I’m pretty sure I’ll be picking up deluxe prints of these four images for my dad, which covers Father’s Day (belated), his birthday, Christmas and even one for a ‘bonus’ holiday. My shopping is done!

OOOOHHHH!!!!! Thank You Michelle! I am looking forward to this event at The Disney Gallery June 25, 2011. I too have a great love and respect for great classics. My father worked on hundreds of restorations throughout my childhood. I am currently a very active Grandpa/Girl Scout Leader/Choir Director.

Michelle,

We are huge vintage car fans and, of course, Disney fans too! I absolutely love these. Like the other posters, I am wondering if these will possibly be available online or at Walt Disney World by the end of the month. I love the Haunted Mansion one…but then again, I love them all!!

Thank you so much for posting this!

Michelle Harker on June 10th, 2011 at 12:58 pm

Brant, definitely contact our Disneyland Merchandise Guest Services team, the Monday after the event, if quantities are still available, they should be able to help you out. Have a great day!
