Behind the Scenes: Designing a runDisney Medal

posted on August 29th, 2011 by Darrell Fry, Sports Media Director, Walt Disney World Resort

One of the most popular features of our runDisney events are the medals awarded to everyone who finishes either our 26.2-mile Walt Disney World Marathon or any of our 13.1-mile half marathons. We are often asked how those medals are made. Well, here’s a behind-the-scenes look at how one of our art directors designs and creates our medals.

The Disneyland and Chip & Dale relay medals are massive! Great job with the design.

Very excited! I knew this year’s Disneyland medal was nice but there was no sense of how big it was when a picture of it was released. I feel like I might need to do some neck-strenghtening exercises on the plane ride to handle that baby!!

Very cool to see the Chip & Dale relay medal in the actual metal, as well as TinkerBell (which is also huge!!). I will be very excited to add all three (and two new Coast to Coast medals) to my collection!
