Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Coming to Walt Disney World

Today, we’re thrilled to share plans for a new role-playing adventure coming to Walt Disney World called Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. This is going to be fun – and it’s all happening inside the park. Merlin the magician will recruit guests to become apprentice sorcerers and then help them with maps and clues that show where and how to defeat an army of Disney villains.

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom Coming to Walt Disney World

Looks interesting, right? Work on this new adventure is already underway. You may notice a few giant crates and even some new spaces showing up throughout Adventureland. They’ll provide early clues to the challenge you’ll face while trying to save the Magic Kingdom.

Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom is scheduled to debut in early 2012. And we’ll be sharing more details in the future so keep checking the Disney Parks Blog for updates.

  • Sounds like tons of fun. We’re planning a trip for the last week of March / first week of April. Hopefully it’ll be up and running by then. I’m sure my kids would have a ball with this. (Who am I kidding…I will personally love this)

  • Awesome! Can’t wait! Love Kim Possible over at EPCOT so great to see the idea spread over to MK. Sounds like the proposed Kingdom Keepers tie in that was announced a few months ago. If so kinda wished they would have stuck with the Kingdom Keepers tie in rather than go a new direction with it. The Kingdom Keepers series Rock and revolves around the same plot. Well no matter the case I am sure it will be great and looking forward to it!!!!

  • I’m REALLY glad to see Disney re-embracing it’s classic years characters and making them relevant to younger generations in the parks. The Sword in the Stone was already old when I saw it as a little kid in the 1980’s -but I loved it (and still do at age 27).

Any chance we’ll see a re-release on that soon and something like The Adventures of Ichabod and Mr. Toad?? Those were so COOL to me as a kid at Halloween! And Mr. Toad’s Wild Ride remains my favorite Disney ride ever.

  • I was fortunate enough to visit during the 10th anniversary and have a ton of merchandise and souvenirs from our trip. Very cool stuff and lots of great memories as a kid!

  • awesome! i like the Kim possible adventure, and I’m sure I’ll love this one. p.s. Do you need help down there? i’ll be at the mk this sunday. 🙂

  • I’m so excited to see this announcement! I’ve been following the project in the park and it’s been really exciting. It’s interesting that the kid in the concept art appears to be holding cards. Maybe something similar to the Midship Detective Agency on the Disney Dream? I can’t wait to learn more. 🙂

  • @ Timothy – They did reportedly unveil a quest with a Kingdom Keepers theme, but only for large class field-trips and youth groups. (For kids to work together.)
Can’t really do it as a solo, but think that’s where the “Defeat the villains” theme came from, as well as that upcoming movie in the works.

  • This sounds so exciting! We will be there in mid-November with a 9,8,5 and 11 month old, so hopefully Mickey will be needing some kids to test it out! If not, we will have to come back in 2012.

  • Assuming this is equivalent to the Kim Possible adventure. Keep them coming Disney, always love another layer presented to enjoy the park.

I’m hoping it is like the Kim Possible adventure that you can do at your own pace and enjoy. Though I have to admit, I enjoy them a little more than my kids.

Would love to see some pictures as it develops.

  • Sounds pretty cool but I would rather see somthing like this with a Kingdom Keepers theme. They are very popular books, why not tie them into the parks?

  • It might me of Kim Possible World Showcase Adventure In Epcot! And I can’t wait to play Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom for next year! I will enjoy it!

  • This looks like a lot of fun, and a neat new way to experience a park so many of us know so well!

I’m curious, though, why this isn’t attached to the Kingdom Keepers book franchise. It seems like a logical fit for the Keepers to help you defeat the overtakers.

  • We are bringing our 8 and 9 year old grandchildren in April, hope it is up an running then!!!!

  • My kids will love this! Anything that helps them love the Magic Kingdom a little more is great with me! I hope it gets going before my February visit. Need a test family?

  • This is very exciting. I can’t wait to check it out when I am at Walt Disney World with my Marching Band in April. Just one question, why wasn’t this able to be announced at the D23 expo two weeks ago? Don’t get me wrong, better late than never, but I am sure an announcement such as this would have helped with the “lack of announcements” for Walt Disney World, as many fans were saying.

  • AWESOME!!! My kids and I love the Kim Possible game at EPCOT. I hope they include some sort of iPhone or iPod Touch element(that would be the icing of the Disney Cupcake!

  • This sounds a lot like the Adventureland Challenge that used to happen in Adventureland until about 2000.

Will Col. Wayne P. McSwagger steal the mystic idol of Adventureland once again?!

  • This does look like fun! I have to echo what others have said, I hope this isn’t just for kids. I’m 40 years old and I love the Kim Possible thing at Epcot! =) Its always disappointing when things are geared only toward children, when I go to WDW, I want to have fun too. That’s what Walt said he wanted as well and he was right.

This looks to be very cool, I’d love to try this out.

  • Can’t wait to try this!! What an interesting and exciting interactive experience at the Magic Kingdom Sounds like this will be appealing to all age groups. Maybe someday they can make this something that occurs throughout all the theme parks.

  • This should be a nice addition to the park. I’m just curious though – is there a reason this wasn’t announced at the D23 Expo?

  • There have been rumors about this for a while, so I’m glad that Disney has officially announced it! This sounds so great, really interactive, and I bet it will be full of exciting surprises. Hope this is open by Spring Break next March!

  • #27 – P.S. If you can’t make one for Disneyland, we would be just as happy if you made one for DCA!!

  • #26 – We’ve done Kim Possible at WDW and I really enjoyed the fun of seeing things change or do something unexpected. I hope this new thing for the Magic Kingdom will be at least as much fun as that!

How about sending one to our park here, Disneyland?? Some time ago, my hubby and I did a beta test for a Muppet-based adventure in DCA, really enjoyed it a lot and we were hoping to hear that it was going to be implemented here, but so far it hasn’t. This makes 2 things like this for WDW, but we don’t even have one version yet!!

Have you heard anything about this, Thomas?? I also hope this would be ADA accessible!!

  • Sounds really fun, I just wish the premise of these was something other than “defeating villains”, because that could be scary to the younger set. I wish Disney would reconsider a milder/happier version of this as well as KimPossible.

  • My kids, now ages 26, 31 and 38, love Kim Possible at Epcot, and play it every time we go there. I’m sure they will enjoy this as well. They grew up on Disney which means, at least to them, that you never have to be a grown-up for vacations

  • I love both the Kim Possible adventure in Epcot and the Midship Detective Agency on the Dream, and this sounds like a combination of the two. And that sounds just fantastic. Great idea, Disney. Can’t wait to try it out!!

  • Just when I thought I had seen and done everything there is to do at DisneyWorld. You surprise me again! We will be back many times before early 2012. I hope it’s ADA accessible like Kim Possible at Epscot. I would love to have another adventure with my family!

  • Sounds great! My kids of 10 and 8 would love it. Need any testers at the end of October?

  • So Walt Disney World is finally appealing to the nerds, huh? I like this! Can’t wait!

  • @ Lou – Yes! Assuming this’s the Sword in the Stone version of Merlin, we’ve missed him at the old anvil. 🙂

And sounds like a more MK version of Kim Possible, but hopefully the “magic” will be in more secret and out of the way corners, and not as disruptive as some of the more public Epcot KP happenings…Don’t want to spoil ALL the MK and Adventureland atmosphere for the regular folks.

  • Sounds like a more elaborate and magical version of the DaVinci adventure in Tokyo Disney S.E.A! My husband is going to love this.

  • Awesome! My 7 year old son and I had a blast doing Kim Possible for the first time on this past trip. He loved the interactivity – I know he’ll love this new adventure…

  • This sounds very promising, esp if it follows along w/ either the interactive Kim Possible adventure at Epcot, or the interactive pictures and game on the Disney Dream!! We will anxiously await the Sorcerers!!

  • Will this be on the order of Kim Possible in EPCOT ? That turned out to be much more fun than i originally appeared to be – the kids love it.
p.s. I hope Merlin returns to help with the Sword in the Stone pull once day in the future

  • This is great! Something you can do interactively and at your own pace. Great for people of all ages not just for kids.

  • This sounds great. Something that you can be actively involved in doing and you can do it at your own pace. This will be fun for all ages.

  • This looks really fun. Only Disney could turn the entire park into an attraction because the parks are so layered and detailed already. That’s why you’re the best!

  • I am envisioning an experience similar to the Kim Possible in Epcot. It should add another element of fun at the Magic Kingdom for sure.

  • I hope it’s similar to the Kim Possible challenges. I love those and am looking forward to playing this…

  • I hope they don’t only “recruit” kids for this …

  • Any idea how eary “early 2012” would be– can anyone estimate before/ after Easter?

    • Hi Robin, this will happen before Easter.

  • If this is anything like Kim Possible in Epcot then I applaud you. It is amazing how you guys made the World Showcase actually enjoyable for the younger kids who just had no interest in exploring the world.

  • Sounds very cool, love that villains are being put into something more 😀 But please tell me that it’s Merlin from The Sword in the Stone and that someone made a typo by putting magician instead of wizard?

  • This is one rumored attraction that I’m thrilled panned out! I love the idea. I just wish it was going to be ready when my fiancée and I go for our Honeymoon on the 15th!

  • FINALLY! It will be great to have some in park challenges again. My kids and I loved the quests that were available for Virtual Magic Kingdom (VMK), which DISNEY needs to bring back!

  • So exciting! We will have to plan a trip for 2012 now! If you need any early testers in November~I know three boys that would be up for the challenge! 😉

  • OMG i hope they have this when we come at the end of Jan/beginning of February 2012. My sons would love this!!!

  • I’m VERY excited about this!! I like the level of interactivity it will add to the parks, especially because it will take place as part of the environment, as opposed to on a smartphone screen. Like the Midship Detective Agency on the Disney Dream, it will afford guests the opportunity to not just be a passive observer, but an active participant in the story and details of the Magic Kingdom. I think it will not only add another layer of enjoyment of the park itself, but also be something that people can participate in individually, or collectively as a family.

P.S. Welcome back to the Magic Kingdom, Merlin!
