First Look: Walt Disney Imagineers Offer a Taste of the Be Our Guest Restaurant

posted on March 8th, 2012 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

“Be our guest! Be our guest! Put our service to the test!” Or so the song goes. Who doesn’t love this playful scene from “Beauty and The Beast,” in which the enchanted staff welcomes Belle to the castle in grand style?

And speaking of “style,” Walt Disney Imagineering (WDI) has been busy recreating the castle’s very detailed beauty in the form of the Be Our Guest Restaurant in New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park.

In this video, provided by WDI, Senior Concept Designer Ted Robledo presents our very first sneak peek inside this highly anticipated restaurant. Imagineers recently put the finishing touches on one of its major elements: a massive mural that will serve as the restaurant’s backdrop. Here, Ted shows how WDI combined digital technology with traditional artistry to create a sweeping landscape that gives guests the feeling that they really are walking into a part of the film.

Will the menu include “the gray stuff”? I hear it’s delicious.

My heart just melted and I swooned. I have waited so long for a part of the parks based on my favorite Disney movie and to see it coming to life like this is just amazing. I cannot wait to see the finished product :)

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 10:26 am

That’s so nice, Katie! I love “Beauty & The Beast,” too!

When is Be Our Guest scheduled to open? I would love to celebrate there the day after the Wine & Dine 1/2 Marathon – Nov. 2012!

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 11:09 am

No date has been announced yet. Be sure to keep checking the blog for future updates!

Carrie on March 8th, 2012 at 10:41 am

This looks amazing – it is stunning! Beauty & the Beast” is my all time favorite! Will there be an option to make reservations? Or is it casual dining?

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 5:00 pm

It will be sit-down/quick-service for lunch and table-service for dinner.

5

Katie on March 8th, 2012 at 10:44 am

I better see some gray stuff (it’s delicious)

7

Jennifer on March 8th, 2012 at 10:59 am

I am so excited! Please, please give us an estimate on opening? We’re coming at the end of October and want so badly to dine here.

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 5:03 pm

I don’t know yet (and it would be irresponsible for me to guess – I don’t want to let you down!). Keep watching the blog for more info and dates.

9

10

Juliann from PA on March 8th, 2012 at 11:15 am

I am so excited! We’re getting married at the Wedding Pavilion on November 1 and we’re really, really hoping to eat at Be Our Guest while we’re there.

Ashley on March 8th, 2012 at 11:17 am

::sigh:: I’m in love! B&tB is my favorite Disney movie. (It was the last one I watched with my Nana before she passed away)
I can’t wait to check this out. To be able to become immersed in my favorite film will certainly be a dream come true! I only wish I was still a little girl so that I could wander the park dressed as Belle. ;) Oh well, maybe by the time she’s old enough to go my daughter will love her just as much as I do.

Oh and by the way Tim, totally made me lol! ;)

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 11:43 am

The detail is going to be amazing. I can’t wait to share another update with you all.

12

Beth on March 8th, 2012 at 11:21 am

13

Tom from MA on March 8th, 2012 at 11:21 am

Will it be on the dining plan? One table service credit or two?

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 5:04 pm

I don’t have any info on this yet. I’ll keep it in mind to ask.

14

Rebecca on March 8th, 2012 at 11:28 am

I’m so excited about this whole new area that will be opening at Magic Kingdom…I hope to be able to visit this fall or early next year to see whatever is open at that point! So excited about Be Our Guest…one of my favorite Disney movies!

15

Christopher on March 8th, 2012 at 11:29 am

My daughter will love this, Belle is her fav princess! Just make sure the beast doesn’t visit the table. :)

16

Kim on March 8th, 2012 at 11:33 am

Oh oh oh oh! I’ve been keeping tabs on this restaurant since I first learned about it (following the Parks on FB really helps a girl watch out for news). My husband knows I’ll be asking to go as soon as it opens. :)

I’m so excited about this, I can’t stand it!

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 11:44 am

Don’t forget about our Twitter accounts: @waltdisneyworld and @disneyparks.

17

Teri from FL on March 8th, 2012 at 11:34 am

WOW! Nothing short of awesome. I’m curious if the room will come to life periodically (like the Tiki room) so they can sing me off to sleep as I digest?

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 5:05 pm

Ah! Clever tie-in there!

18

Valerie on March 8th, 2012 at 11:37 am

Jennifer, I’ve seen a lot of folks asking when the new FantasyLand will open, and I see mixed answers (although I could be misunderstanding the true answer). When will the entire renovation be complete? We are making the trip to Disney in December 2012, but we would like to know if the new FantasyLand will be near completion, or just near completion for the first phase. Can you explain what the “Late 2012″ answer means… Does it mean that’s when EVERYTHING in the new FantasyLand will be open, or just phase 1?

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 12:09 pm

The first phase (1/2 of Dumbo and Barnstormer) are scheduled to debut by the end of this month. The next phase of openings hasn’t been announced yet.

19

Shawn from CO on March 8th, 2012 at 11:40 am

What is the possible opening date? 2012 or 2013?

20

Barbara from PA on March 8th, 2012 at 11:40 am

Can’t wait to see it. It looks beautiful already but then again it’s Disney nothing but the best!!!

21

Erin on March 8th, 2012 at 11:49 am

I hope we find out when this will be opening! We are going at the end of November and I would LOVE to experience this with my family! Just beautiful!

22

Michelle on March 8th, 2012 at 11:50 am

This is so amazing, we will be visiting in September but I doubt this will be open by then. This is my daughter and I’s favorite movie. Every time we watch it we both sing every song. I cannot wait to bring my little girl back to see the whole expansion.

23

Lauren from NC on March 8th, 2012 at 11:55 am

omg omg omg omg

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 12:09 pm

I guess you like it? :)

24

Mary Ellen from PA on March 8th, 2012 at 11:56 am

Any menu sneak peeks? will we be drinking out of “Chip” like tea cups?

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 12:09 pm

Not yet, but that’s something I can’t wait to share. This will be an incredible dining experience.

25

Sharonda from CA on March 8th, 2012 at 12:05 pm

BEAUTIFUL! I can’t wait to experience this restaurant with my family. We will be there June 2013. Thanks for sharing :) I look forward to more photos and the menu.

26

Constance on March 8th, 2012 at 12:10 pm

What is the gray stuff everyone seems to be mentioning? I have been to WDW 3 times in the past 3 years and never saw it…lol.

27

Marline on March 8th, 2012 at 12:14 pm

I’m really looking forward to taking my granddaughter to this restaurant. I know her dad and step mom will want to go. They met playing for a high school production of the musical. On another note, I am very sad that Snow White’s Scary Adventure is going away. After all, Walt’s first Oscar was for this movie. I hope the new addition to Fantasyland will include somethig to honor Snow White. I particularly love her and Belle. They were the only princesses that weren’t blonde for so many years!

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 2:03 pm

Snow White will live on in the form of The Seven Dwarfs Mine Train, which will be a new addition to the New Fantasyland area.

28

amy from NJ on March 8th, 2012 at 12:20 pm

Oh goodness, i hope it is open by October because Belle is my daugthers FAVORITE. Love to celebrate her 5th Birthday there.

29

Hope from IN on March 8th, 2012 at 12:22 pm

I was told last month that Be Our Guest is looking to open around September. Disney Dining told me that it wasnt for sure, but thats when they were expecting it to open and I should keep checking back for more details. Just thought Id share what I had heard!

30

Krystal from WA on March 8th, 2012 at 12:23 pm

Walt Disney was amazing at having a vision of taking the people out of the “every day” life aspect and bring them into something more magical. This restaurant is EXACTLY a piece of that vision. So looking forward to this!

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 2:04 pm

Thanks, Krystal!

31

sandra on March 8th, 2012 at 12:47 pm

37

Jenna on March 8th, 2012 at 2:00 pm

My husband and I were there for the One more day of Magic and we took the train which will have a stop at the new Fantasy Land. So cool to see the castle from Little Mermaid and the tents for the new Dumbo ride.

38

39

Annamae from ON on March 8th, 2012 at 3:20 pm

My girls would be so thrilled to have any part of the New Fantasyland open when we come in August! They are Belle and Ariel’s number one fans, and to be able to see their castles would be a dream come true for them. And a Belle-themed restaurant to boot! I can only imagine their little faces! SO excited!

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 3:41 pm

Sounds like it will be amazing for them!

40

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 3:41 pm

I don’t have a date to announce yet. As soon as I get one to release, it will be on the blog.

41

Jill from IL on March 8th, 2012 at 3:47 pm

We were there last June and took pics from Cinderella’s castle. Going this June and while I would have loved for it to be finished, it will be fun to see the progress. My 3 daughters and I started doing an annual girls trip 2 yrs ago. We were planning on going to Aulani June 2013 (for my son’s graduation), we are going to have to sneak a couple of days in Orlando in though at some point so we can see this amazing new Fantasyland & not miss our girls trip!! My middle daughter is sort of a Disneyaholic like me…she likes to watch the Parks planning video and has even gone on You Tube to find ride and cruise videos!! Counting down the days til our next trip…Thank you Disney for providing us with a destination where we can have wholesome family time.

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 4:31 pm

What an awesome graduation gift, Jill! Keep watching our blog to see when more parts to New Fantasyland will debut so you can plan your next trip!

I can’t wait for this to open! Beauty and the Beast is my all-time favorite Disney movie and to be able to experience this dining room would be a dream come true! I know it’s wishful thinking but if it could be open at the beginning of August my honeymoon would be set! My heart just melts at the thought of creating wonderful memories there with my (soon-to-be)husband!
Thank you Jennifer for the update, it has truly made my day!

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 5:07 pm

Thank YOU, Shelby, and congrats on your upcoming wedding!

44

Luis on March 8th, 2012 at 4:32 pm

6 months until I graduate as an engineer, 6 months until I officially apply to become an Imagineer. :D
Hopefully one day I get to help create the magic.

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 8th, 2012 at 5:07 pm

Keep the dream alive, Luis! Imagineers do amazing stuff!

45

derek on March 8th, 2012 at 4:45 pm

so the plan i have been following is that it is QS for lunch and sit-down for dinner. there are three dining rooms, all themed differently… i would like to see the area come ‘alive’ kinda like RFC or t-rex, but i have not seen that in the blogs i am following… Beasts’ castle looks amazing though, of what we could see over the walls!

46

Barry from BC on March 8th, 2012 at 6:12 pm

It looks amazing. This might be my new favorite Magic Kingdom restaurant. I can hardly wait to see the menu.

Jennifer Fickley-Baker on March 9th, 2012 at 9:05 am

48

Amber on March 8th, 2012 at 9:49 pm

My family and I have been telling each other “There better be gray stuff, and it better be delicious! And if not there better be some dishes to ask!” since we first heard/saw tale of this restaurant. We affectionately called it “Be our Guestaurant” before we knew the official name (we still call it that).
Simply. Cannot. Wait.
The yearly trip is in May though, so we’ll probably have to see it next year…unless we make a special trip to MK.

49

Sarah on March 8th, 2012 at 10:39 pm

I got sooo excited when this showed up on Facebook! Totally want to eat at the restaurant from my FAVORITE princess movie! So glad I’m moving to Florida in August! One more thing to look forward to!
