Vintage Walt Disney World: It’s National Goof-Off Day

posted on March 22nd, 2012 by Nate Rasmussen, Archivist, Marketing Resource Center

In honor of National Goof-Off Day, I thought I’d share this picture of my favorite character to goof off with, Goofy. Here he is sporting a lot of sports equipment back in August 1988 at Magic Kingdom Park.

So make Goofy proud and spend a little bit of your day goofing off. You’ll be glad you did.

I’m planning to goof off by going to Disneyland after work today! Didn’t know there was a special day for it.

Neither did I. Isn’t the Internet glorious?

Love this vintage shot!

Goofy used to goof off quite a bit back in those days. I fondly remember, as a 5-year old, watching Goofy waterskiing while riding the ferry boat into the Magic Kingdom. Great memories!

One thing I love about this picture is the beautiful trees surrounding the castle. I miss all the gorgeous green trees that used to line the hub. It made for a much more welcoming area that you wanted to sit down and relax in. It’s a bit barren now, with the sun beating down – not very relaxing!
