Mystery Photo: Minotaurs Added to New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park

So many of you enjoyed last week’s New Fantasyland time-lapse video that Walt Disney Imagineering just sent this photo over to share with all of you.

“A

This minotaur, a mythological figure that is a combination man and bull, was recently installed at one of the areas under construction in New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park. The larger-than-life sculpture is one of two that will appear in this area.

Any guesses which area or attraction it will highlight? Leave your guesses below – the answer will be posted later today!

UPDATE: Those of you who answered “Be Our Guest Restaurant” were correct! Two of these sculptures will welcome guests at the front entrance of the restaurant. Their design was inspired by animated footage from the “Beauty and The Beast” film, specifically the scene in which Belle enters the castle for the first time.

Looks like it would fit well outside of the Beast’s castle. Very cool statue! Can’t wait to see all the new areas in June.

Be Our Guest Restaurant or the Beast’s Castle – considering the Beast and the Minotaur both have some very bison-like qualities… Can’t wait to see it when it is all done!

GORGEOUS! Of course everyone must recognize this from Beauty and the Beast (and it appears everyone who has commented does). Being that the Be Our Guest restaurant is inside the Beast castle, this beautiful statue belongs there.

Simply cannot wait for super-duper Fantasyland to be complete!

Seems like a Hercules thing but I don’t know if he will be in the new Fantasyland.

Definitely Beast’s castle. :) Or as others have said, Be our Guest restaurant.

I think it is going to be in the Beast’s Castle at the Be Our Guest restaurant. Maybe it’s holding up a staircase like the one in the movie did in the Beast’s library.

It looks like it belongs in the West Wing of Beast’s Castle, while still under enchantment!

Hercules!

I agree, BEAST’S CASTLE! It had monsters like that until the end of the movie when they changed to golden angels.

Wow, what an eye for detail! You’ll just have to wait and see if you’re right. :)

The Beast’s Castle? Thanks for posting–this is the part of the Fantasyland expansion that our family is most looking forward to seeing. We can’t wait until ADRs are available for dinner at Be Our Guest!

In the movie, there were creatures like this holding up the pillars at the base of the staircase to the west wing… so I assume these would be part of the entryway to that portion of the “Be Our Guest” restaurant, which I am hoping against hope I’ll get to see in person this October (pleasepleaseplease)! : )

Best I could do on short notice, but with what you can see, the similarity is uncanny…

OK, I’m going to be different and say it’s some relic that is found underwater near atlantis for Ariel.

At the entrance of Beast’s Castle!

Dang, my image didn’t make it into the post, but it was a screen-grab from B&tB of this statue. It’s a dead-on copy!

Absolutely the Beast’s Castle!
