Caption This: Don’t Feed The Animals at Magic Kingdom Park

posted on May 14th, 2012 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Editorial Content Manager

My fellow Disney Parks Blog author Nate Rasmussen and I were recently digging through the photo archives here at Walt Disney World Resort together, when we came across this cute vintage shot of Mickey Mouse.

Taken a few months before the opening of Walt Disney World Resort in 1971, this photo shows Mickey hanging out with a few of Magic Kingdom Park’s first topiaries. What do you think were some of Mickey’s other pre-park opening responsibilities? You tell us. Go ahead and “Caption This!”

All together now “It’s not that easy being green…”

Nice one!

Do these green leaves make me look full yet?

After I hammer this sign in, I need to go to the main entrance and check on the flowers, then I need to make sure the train and conductor are ready. Check with the horses to see if they are ready to pull the trolley. Finally, find Walt and make sure he’s ready!

You can’t be too careful in a land where magic comes to life.

“I hope this won’t keep anyone from asking me to dinner…”

“However, if you see Pluto, please feed him for me? I have no time. Have you seen my to-do list? It has more tasks on it than Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious has letters!”

@Shannon, sadly Mickey would not have been looking to find Walt. Walt passed away before the park was completed. I saw photos taken roughly 9 to 10 months after his passing and Cinderella Castle was not even built yet, there was just a big red plastic X that marked the spot where it would be built.

Mickey mumbles: “I’m getting tired of all those growing and shrinking characters. People need to stop feeding them “eat me” and “drink me” labeled foods.” There, that ought to do the trick!

Oh gosh I think the sign was for these animals or was it suppose to be at The Animal Kingdom… Oh well

Makenzie on May 14th, 2012 at 2:19 pm

This would be so much easier if they let me whistle while I work.

No one told him they were only hedges. Sad, really.

Cammie on May 14th, 2012 at 3:47 pm

“Shouldn’t we feed them til they’re full?”

Angela on May 14th, 2012 at 5:01 pm

I sure hope this works. I’m sick of cleaning up Dumbo’s leftovers.

Kyra on May 14th, 2012 at 9:31 pm

“Sure, make the mouse do all the dirty work. Why can’t Pete do this?”

Richard on May 15th, 2012 at 9:29 am

This really sucks! How come nobody’s helping me out?

Audrey on May 17th, 2012 at 11:39 am

Except for mice…it’s perfectly fine to feed the mice!

I can see Humphrey the Bear looking at that sign with great disappointment.
