Vanessa Williams Meets Merida at Disneyland Park

posted on May 29th, 2012 by George Savvas, Public Relations Director, Disneyland Resort

To celebrate her daughter’s twelfth birthday, Vanessa Williams brought her and some friends to Disneyland park. It happened to be the very first day that Merida, the adventurous heroine from the upcoming Disney•Pixar film “Brave,” was greeting guests in Fantasyland. While her daughter was practicing archery at this delightful new location near “it’s a small world,” Vanessa posed with Merida for this fun photo.

Can you remember Vanessa’s connection to another Disney film featuring a brave heroine?

“Where

So, if you’re in that group of readers guessing our “impossible” mystery puzzlers in only minutes, this week’s may have you seeing red – it’s tough. But if you’re observant, you can see a couple instances of the image in the same location somewhere in Disney Parks. Does the pattern look familiar? Please put your answers in the comments and we’ll update the post with the answer later today.

All in the Details: Introducing Prince Eric’s Castle at Magic Kingdom Park

posted on May 29th, 2012 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

We’re back this week with a few photos of another attraction that’s coming later this year to New Fantasyland. Last week, many of you asked for a glimpse into Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid, so here’s a sneak peek at the building that will house the attraction – Prince Eric’s castle!
“Prince

Starting at the top, this Mediterranean-style castle features a Spanish-tile roof and a regal “E” monogram – a nod to the castle’s royal resident.
“Prince

This castle’s towering balconies reflect a maritime touch with seaweed-themed support beams.
“Prince

And this photo is my favorite of the three. This is a shot of the ground level. The walls here feature hand-painted artwork that depicts the history of man’s perilous journey on the sea.

So, which royal residence are you more excited to see for yourself when New Fantasyland opens – Beast’s castle or Prince Eric’s?

Thanks again to Walt Disney Imagineering for supplying these great photos!

Celebrating 35 Years of Space Mountain at Disneyland Park

posted on May 27th, 2012 by George Savvas, Public Relations Director, Disneyland Resort

Today marks the 35th anniversary of the landmark Tomorrowland attraction that became an instant classic when it opened on May 27, 1977.

Space Mountain

A variation of a concept Walt Disney developed in the 1960s, Space Mountain first opened at Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort in 1975. Construction on Space Mountain at Disneyland park began soon after.

In this rare photo, construction continues on Space Mountain in 1976.

I remember riding Space Mountain the week it opened. That day, and in the years that followed, I was fascinated by the “com chat” in the queue. What’s your favorite memory from Space Mountain?

Disney Parks Blog Weekly Recap

posted on May 27th, 2012 by Thomas Smith, Social Media Director, Disney Parks

“SpaceX

Walt Disney World Resort photographer Matt Stroshane captured one of my favorite images of the month early this week. That’s the SpaceX Falcon 9 rocket soaring to the International Space Station over Mission: SPACE at Epcot. The red streak in the sky is the flame from the rocket engines over a 64-second exposure as it arced into orbit.
“Belle’s

Gearing Up for the Summer Wedding Season at Disney Parks & Resorts

posted on May 26th, 2012 by Korri McFann, Worldwide Marketing & Business Development Director, Weddings & Honeymoons

“Kris

Here at Disney’s Fairy Tale Weddings we’ve been extra busy gearing up for June, which is always one of our busiest months of the year. And I have to admit that all of this June weddings hustle and bustle has given me a case of summer fever! As luck would have it, Kris and Jeff’s big day is just what the doctor ordered and comes chalk-full of the best summer has to offer – beaches, sunshine and of course flip-flops.

This dynamic duo met while working at Disney’s Animal Kingdom, but when it came time to tie the knot, Kris and Jeff packed their bags for a different kind of adventure – a Disney’s Vero Beach Resort adventure, that is! The couple chose to infuse Vero’s seaside feel into every aspect of their wedding and paid extra special attention to detail. From the darling cupcake display (with a cake topper made by the bride herself) to the shoe check, this event was truly a coastline lover’s paradise.

Carthay Circle Fountain Revealed at Disney California Adventure Park

posted on May 25th, 2012 by Erin Glover, Social Media Director, Disneyland Resort

“Carthay

Yesterday, Disney California Adventure park guests were able to see the entire exterior of Carthay Circle Theatre for the first time, and today another beautiful park landmark has been revealed. Carthay Circle Fountain is now visible, and as you can see in these brand-new images from Paul Hiffmeyer, it was worth the wait!
“Carthay

In the video below (filmed before the construction walls came down), Imagineer Lisa Girolami gives some insight into the inspiration for this fountain and how it helps tell the story of the Los Angeles that Walt Disney may have discovered when he first arrived.

Come see Carthay Circle for yourself when Buena Vista Street opens on June 15!

Cruising at Night with Lightning McQueen and Mater in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure Park

posted on May 25th, 2012 by Paul Hiffmeyer, Chief Photographer for Public Relations, Disneyland Resort

“Lightning

As night fell in Cars Land at Disney California Adventure park, I followed Mater and Lightning McQueen back to the center of town to check out the neon lighting up Route 66.
“Lightning

Before we wrapped up our little road trip, you know we had to get a shot over at Flo’s V8 Café. I really like the way the neon over at Flo’s reflects off McQueen’s hood.

What a great time I had spending the day with these two. Don’t forget, beginning June 15, you can meet Lightning and Mater over at the Cozy Cone Motel in Cars Land.
