Singer/songwriter Carrie Underwood and her husband, NHL Nashville Predators star Mike Fisher, visited Walt Disney World Resort this week as both took a break from their busy schedules to meet Mickey, Minnie and the gang. In this photo taken by Disney Parks Blog author Gene Duncan, Minnie Mouse was on hand to welcome the couple to Disney’s Animal Kingdom Theme Park.

Whenever I walk through Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park, the mysterious sign above the door to Winnie the Pooh’s tree at The Many Adventures of Winnie the Pooh attraction always gets my attention. Do you remember whose name is etched right above the door (blurred in this pic – bottom left corner)? Do you know the story behind it?
See if you can remember and tell us in the comments section.

After the sun sets at Disneyland park, a whole new experience begins for guests to enjoy, with great opportunities for those of us who love photography.
I chose this photo for my first “Disney Parks After Dark” post because it reminds me of a series I did here on the Disney Parks Blog called “Things That Spin in the Night” but with a twist. The lines aren’t as well-defined as most of the photos in that series from last year – here the colors blend into each other, almost becoming a river of color.
One of the greatest things about digital cameras is how easily you can experiment. Turn off the flash, bump up the ISO and steady the camera on something solid. Just remember to hold on to the camera. Shoot away, you may be surprised at what you can do.

Last week, Aubrey Anderson-Emmons, the youngest star of ABC’s “Modern Family,” had a chance to meet the star of one of the newest Disney Parks interactive experiences.
The pint-sized starlet, who portrays “Lily” on the hit comedy series, caught up Friday with Agent P at Disney’s Hollywood Studios. Agent P can be spotted by sharp-eyed guests in the new Disney Phineas & Ferb: Agent P’s World Showcase Adventure at Epcot.
Aubrey and her dad, Kent Emmons, shared a few laughs with the fedora-wearing alter-ego of Perry the Platypus. A fan of the Disney Channel show, Aubrey showed off some of her own secret-agent skills to the cartoon crime fighter.
And she had even more reasons to celebrate while on her Walt Disney World Resort vacation. During the 2012 Emmy Awards nomination announcements on Thursday, “Modern Family” received 14 nominations — the most for any comedy series this year. The 64th Primetime Emmy Award ceremony will air September 23 on ABC.

If you’ve had the opportunity to visit Aulani, a Disney Resort & Spa – or even if you’ve just been reading about it – you know how much fun it is and how popular it’s been with families visiting Hawai`i.
As a result of all the excitement about Aulani and its amenities, we’re already planning an expansion of the resort. New water features will be added to the Waikolohe Valley pool area, along with additional deck space for sunbathing and relaxing. Two new quick-service food locations also will be part of the enhancements, and the popular “Starlit Hui” show will move to a larger lawn so that even more guests can enjoy the performance.
Work on all this is scheduled to begin in September. Keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog for regular updates on plans and progress.

In early June, I participated in a live chat with Imagineer Jonathan Ackley about Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. This interactive, role-playing adventure lets apprentice sorcerers help Merlin keep the Disney Villains from taking over the Magic Kingdom. It’s a fun experience that I’ve had a chance to play with my son. During the live chat, several readers asked about the remaining spell cards – numbers 61 to 70. I have good news; Disney Theme Park Merchandise is introducing a new trading card game in August that is based on Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom. This at-home game includes a way to obtain those super rare spell cards plus a whole bunch more. I spoke with Cody Hampton, Associate Developer for toys and games, about what to expect.
“We wanted a way to extend the magic found with the Sorcerers of the Magic Kingdom experience beyond the park,” explained Cody. “We created a trading card game that allows guests to use the cards from their in-park experience in a whole new way at home.”
The trading card game will contain seven randomly selected spell cards (including at least one super rare spell card), one of four game boards, game rules, new tokens and a complete spell card checklist. I spoke with Disney Design Group Artist Quynh Kimball who worked on the game development.
“We worked closely with Walt Disney Imagineering while creating the game,” said Quynh. “They provided images from the in-park experience for the at-home version. There are four different game boards featuring Maleficent, Dr. Facilier, Jafar and Cruella DeVil. Much like the in-park game, the goal is to work together as a team to get the villain’s power level to zero. The game rules are very thorough but easy to understand. I think anyone ages six and up will have a fun time playing.”
The game will launch on Friday, August 17, at the Emporium at Magic Kingdom Park. It will eventually be released at several additional Walt Disney World Resort locations, and it will be carried via the online Disney Parks Store at a future date.
A new mystery pin set is also planned for release later this year. I shared artwork of the set during the live chat. Now, I’m happy to share with you the actual pins from this Disney Villains-themed set – how wonderful to see my favorite villain, Hades!

After 70 days, the Torch Relay will culminate tomorrow night when the cauldron is lit at the opening ceremonies of the London 2012 games.
While the torch may be one of the most recognizable symbols throughout the world, Epcot has a few torches of its own that are seen by guests every day.
Every evening in IllumiNations: Reflections of Earth, the Earth Globe opens to reveal a giant torch for the finale. Here’s a look at the 350,000 lb. Earth Globe still under construction back in 1999.
Inside the American Adventure theater, in the show’s final scene Benjamin Franklin and Mark Twain share a handshake in front of another recognizable torch both in Epcot and throughout the world. Below is a look at an Imagineer programming the attraction prior to opening in April 1982.
While my athleticism most likely won’t translate to me carrying the torch in my life, rest assured I’ll still be looking to see who the final torch bearer is tomorrow night.

I am happy to share with you my excitement about the reconceptualized Uva Bar and Café, including a new menu by Executive Chef Nick Weber, which reopened on June 7. Nestled in the heart of the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort, this sidewalk bar and café now features an expanded patio area with additional seats which evoke the feeling of Spanish eateries found in Barcelona. Surrounding the vibrant terrace, umbrellas line the open air space, providing an ideal locale for observing the hustle and bustle of the Downtown Disney District. The centerpiece circle bar has been given a facelift, with festive tiling backlit by an LED-lighting system which brings an atmosphere of Spain to Anaheim.
The featured a la plancha entrees include the Lamb Burger with piquillo peppers, feta, arugula, lemon dill aïoli and pickled red onion; and the Market Fish with roasted artichoke heart, preserved lemon purée, blistered tomatoes and olives. New offerings include an extensive menu of side items, including sweet potato fries, sea salt and garlic fries and the classic Uva street fries with chorizo Bilbao, spicy crema, shaved green onions, pickled garlic and melted cheese. Other sides include asparagus served a la plancha and Shishito peppers with sea salt and lemon garlic emulsion.
As a perfect pairing to numerous dishes on the new menu, Uva Bar is pleased to offer an extensive list of local and regional microbrews including Firestone Doublebarrel, Lost Coast Great White and Anderson Valley Boont Amber Ale. The new bar space now features twelve draft handles which are set to house premier selections including Green Flash Hop Head Red, Alaskan Amber Ale, Stone I.P.A., Lost Coast Tangerine Wheat and a rotating seasonal draft, among others.
I look forward to seeing you at the Uva Bar and Cafe – the best spot to see and be seen in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort!
