Sleeping Beauty Castle at Disneyland Park

Things You Might Not Know About Buena Vista Street at Disney California Adventure Park

My new favorite place at the Disneyland Resort is Buena Vista Street. The beautiful shop interiors, the incredible details in the windows, the hand-dipped ice cream bars at Clarabelle’s Hand-Scooped Ice Cream – not to mention all the nods to Walt Disney’s early days in California. But there are some things that even superfans might not know …

  • Carthay Circle Theatre is 89.5 feet tall – 12.5 feet taller than Sleeping Beauty Castle.
  • The Carthay Circle Theatre building at Disney California Adventure park is approximately ¾ scale to the original Carthay Circle Theatre building, where “Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs” premiered in 1937.
  • Julius Katz, the name of the proprietor of Julius Katz & Sons, was inspired by Julius the Cat, the animated cat who joined the live-action Alice in Disney’s silent “Alice in Cartoonland” shorts of the 1920s.
  • The name of Atwater Ink & Paint refers to the Atwater Village district of Los Angeles, which was frequented by animators in the early days of the Disney Studio.
  • The number of the 623 Red Car Trolley represents both the 600 series of trolley cars built for the Pacific Electric Railway and the year 1923, when Walt Disney first arrived in California.
  • The number of the 717 Red Car Trolley represents both the 700-750 series of trolley cars and July 17, the month and day Disneyland Resort opened in 1955.

Last summer, I moved from the “717″ area code to Anaheim, so I get pretty emotional whenever I see the #717 Red Car Trolley. I added the exclusive Vinylmation to my collection when it was available on June 15. I LOVE Buena Vista Street!
