Vintage Walt Disney World: The Disney Wonder Debuts

posted on August 2nd, 2012 by Nate Rasmussen, Archivist, Marketing Resource Center

Today back in 1999, the Disney Wonder arrived at Port Canaveral for the first time after leaving Italy. Below is a shot of the ship pulling into port behind its sister ship the Disney Magic.

As the second ship in the Disney Cruise Line fleet, the Disney Wonder has many unique features that distinguish it from the other ships, including the Ariel statue in the atrium, Triton’s restaurant, Route 66, and Donald and Huey on the ship’s stern.

This year, the Disney Wonder voyaged to Hawaii for the first time, made its first call to Seattle and soon will depart for cruises to the Caribbean from Miami in December. That’s a lot of firsts for this classic Disney Cruise Line ship!

Great pictures! Is that the Big Red Boat I see in the upper right of the first picture?

I love the Wonder, I have sailed on her 9 times. It is the ship I feel most comfortable on. I have sailed on the Fantasy, Magic and Dream as well, I love them all too! I will be on the Magic this weekend out of NYC, very excited to have DCL options here now. I would love to see Disney from NYC to Bermuda!
