All in the Details: The Theming of Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid at Magic Kingdom Park

posted on September 18th, 2012 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

Last week we gave you a look inside the Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid attraction, which opens December 6 in New Fantasyland at Magic Kingdom Park. Many of you have asked exactly how this attraction is different from The Little Mermaid ~ Ariel’s Undersea Adventure attraction at Disney California Adventure park. Well, feast your eyes on the photos below to get the answer – it’s the attraction’s amazingly detailed exterior.
The Exterior of Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid at Magic Kingdom Park

Provided by Walt Disney Imagineering, these photos show exactly how guests will become immersed in the tale of “The Little Mermaid” the instant they arrive at the attraction. Its marquee was just installed and features Ariel on the bow of a shipwrecked boat. From here, guests walk through a detailed queue that takes them over a shoreline that has scattered pieces of the ship and into the rocky cliffs below Prince Eric’s castle, with the sound of rushing water all around.

It looks wonderful. We can’t wait for it to open and ride it. Will it be open on Nov. 19th also?

Oh my goodness! It’s been a while since I was this impressed with a new attraction in Disney World. This is so absolutely beautiful and well done. Thank you so much for sharing this with us! I’m so excited for this area to open.

Speaking of New Fantasyland, when are details of the new Tangled walkway/bathroom area going to be posted? When is this part of the New Fantasyland slated to be completed? Can we see some “behind the scenes” photos of this area?

I heard that there was a site where Passholders can register for a Fantasyland preview day, do you know where I can register for that? Thanks!

It looks amazing- can’t wait for next visit. Is there a ‘target’ for completion of the rest of FL including Mine Ride ?
