AMC Downtown Disney 24 at Walt Disney World Resort Offers Monthly ‘Sensory Friendly’ Shows Geared Toward Autistic Guests

During a sensory friendly showing, theater lights are turned up, sound is reduced and audience members are welcome to talk or get up and move during the show.

The program was initiated at the AMC Columbia Mall 14 theater in Columbia, Maryland, where a request from a parent of an autistic child inspired a screening attended by more than 300 parents and children.

Upcoming shows at AMC Downtown Disney 24 at Walt Disney World Resort are:

All sensory-friendly shows take place at 10 a.m. Dates and films are subject to change.

OH MY! How amazing is this! My son has Autism and this would enable him to see one of his favorite Disney movies on the big screen. The loud noises and dark environment make it prohibitive, plus having a theater full of understanding parents when a child breaks out into a fit would be amazing.

Does the AMC here at the Disneyland Resort do the same thing? Florida is a bit too far for a movie.

It’s a such good thing AMC does with these screenings!

And while I can’t speak for the AMC Disneyland, I do know my local AMC has had “Sensory Friendly” screenings. So for anyone who has a family member who might benefit from such experiences, but can’t get to AMC Downtown Disney 24, I suggest contacting their local theater to see what they might offer.

THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!! THANK YOU!!! As a mom of an autistic child, this is a great addition to the Disney parks! I’m so thrilled you have chosen to do this, it lets families like mine enjoy something that other families take for granted. We will definitely take advantage of these showings when on vacation at WDW:)
