All in the Details: Suits of Armor at Be Our Guest Restaurant at Magic Kingdom Park

posted on October 30th, 2012 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Editorial Content Manager

I have to say that of all the amazing photos we’ve run of Be Our Guest Restaurant in New Fantasyland over the past six months, this first shot is probably one of my top-five favorites.

This pic shows a hall lined with suits of armor that guests will pass on their way into the lunchtime quick-service ordering area of the restaurant. This part of the restaurant totally reminds me of the scene in the film, “Beauty and The Beast,” when Belle first enters Beast’s Castle and passes through a hallway just like this. When she steps past one particular suit of armor, it turns its head, which is our first hint that this castle just might be enchanted.

I was able to stop through New Fantasyland in Magic Kingdom Park over the weekend to see these amazingly detailed suits of armor for myself. And I have to say that when you walk down this hallway, there just might be a sign or two that indicate that Be Our Guest’s suits of armor might also be enchanted.

Merchandise for ‘Wreck-It Ralph’ at Disney Parks is 8-Bitastic

posted on October 29th, 2012 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

'Wreck-It Ralph' Merchandise at Disney Parks

I recently attended the Disney Parks Blog meet-up for “Wreck-It Ralph” with my son. We had a blast playing games at DisneyQuest, including the new Fix-It Felix, Jr. game (and Tron, of course!). We also attended a special screening of the film later that morning. As someone who spent countless hours playing video games as a child (hello, 1980s), I loved this film! Between the 8-bit inspired soundtrack, numerous video game character cameos, and a humorous and heartfelt story, I left the theater shouting, “I’m gonna see it again!” At Disney Parks, we’ve introduced some merchandise to celebrate the film’s release on November 2. I visited both Mouse Gear at Epcot and Once Upon A Toy at Downtown Disney Marketplace to survey the goods.

Similar to the release of Disney•Pixar’s “Brave” earlier this year, the Disney Theme Park Merchandise team partnered with the Disney Store and Disney Consumer Products for merchandise. There are a variety of new action figures, two story books (the “One Sweet Race” book is beautifully illustrated) and a rather detailed Vanellope Von Schweetz doll. The assortment also includes Fix-It Felix’s hammer and one of my favorite items that made for a fun morning at the office – Ralph’s “freakishly big” talking smash hands.
'Wreck-It Ralph' Pins at Disney Parks

Disney Theme Park Merchandise developed a few items that will only be found at Disney Parks. Look for a boy’s shirt featuring an 8-bit version of Wreck-it Ralph and a mystery pin set containing images of characters from the film. There will also be a limited edition pin releasing on November 1 at Disneyland and Walt Disney World Resorts.

The “most adorable merchandise” medal goes to these scented bean bag plush dolls inspired by the characters from the Sugar Rush game. They have such great names including (top row) Minty Zaki, Gloyd Orangeboar, Snowanna Rainbeau, Adorabeezle Winterpop, Jubileena Bing-Bing, (bottom row) Swizzle “The Swizz” Malarkey, Rancis Fluggerbutter, Taffyta Muttonfudge, Crumbelina DiCarmello, and Candle Head.

If you aren’t visiting Disney Parks soon, you can find many of these items on

When you see the film, make sure you arrive early for the “Paperman” animated short (it’s wonderful!). Fans of video games should stay until the very end of the “Wreck-It Ralph” credits for a nice laugh.

Leave your answers in the comments and I’ll be back later with the complete sign.

Have you ever wanted to hang out with Phineas and Ferb? I know I have. The animated pair are coming to life in a new way at Downtown Disney West Side at Walt Disney World Resort, and even inviting you to join their ‘toon world.

As you leave, you’ll receive an address to a special website where you can share the picture from your starring role with friends and family. And it’s all free fun.

Just look for the giant backyard set at Downtown Disney West Side, next to Bongos Cuban Café. The experience will run through December 1, 2012, from 2-9:30 p.m. daily. (Please note: the experience will be temporarily closed November 8-11 during the annual “Festival of the Masters” event.)

I recently took a trip to Downtown Disney to hang out with Phineas, Ferb, Perry the Platypus, Dr. Doofenshmirtz and even the mysterious Agent P. Check out some of the animated fun I had with my virtual pals in this video. And let us know if you’ve had a chance to hang out with the inventive duo.

Test Track’s New Look Will Be Unveiled at Epcot This Week

posted on October 29th, 2012 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Editorial Content Manager

Now that all you Epcot fans have had a few weeks to recover from celebrating Epcot history at the park’s 30th anniversary festivities, let’s take a look forward at what’s next for the park. We have an update to share on Test Track – Presented by Chevrolet, which will celebrate a milestone in its construction this week as it unveils its new exterior to guests.

Artist Rendering of the Test Track's New Exterior at Epcot

As you can see from this image, the attraction’s color scheme has been changed from a yellow-and-black checkerboard pattern to a sleek, bold blue design that incorporates smaller icon designs that guests will encounter within the attraction. (And I think I spy at least one nod to Epcot history here. Anyone else?).

The attraction’s new marquee, which Walt Disney Imagineer Melissa Jeselnick unveiled here on the Disney Parks Blog back in August, also reflects a sleek automotive-inspired design.

As a reminder, the reimaged Test Track will officially open this Dec. 6. For more on the attraction’s new storyline, technology and more, don’t miss these previous blog posts:

Disney Parks Blog Weekly Recap

posted on October 28th, 2012 by Thomas Smith, Editorial Content Director, Disney Parks

This week, we continued our behind-the-scenes peek at dining rooms at Be Our Guest Restaurant in New Fantasyland with details from inside the Rose Gallery. There’s a seven-foot-tall music box of Belle and Beast that really plays music in this room along with artwork celebrating the two and their extended enchanted family. Of course, we have more details in our original post.

And we also shared video from a special celebration at New Fantasyland at the area occupied by the new Under the Sea ~ Journey of The Little Mermaid attraction.

Disney Parks Blog readers know the area was formerly the location of 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea, an attraction that closed in 1994. Before 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea was dismantled, our Imagineers saved some of the attraction’s water in bottles and kept them safe for the past 18 years. This week, the bottles were opened for the first time for a special celebration with Walt Disney Imagineering.

Here are some of the other stories we worked on this week.

Earl of Sandwich Grand Opening Set for November 2 in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort

posted on October 27th, 2012 by Janet Knox, General Manager, Downtown Disney District, Disneyland Resort

Earlier this year, I shared that we soon will welcome Earl of Sandwich to the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort. I know many of you will share my excitement that official Grand Opening Ceremony is set for November 2! We are thrilled since this is the only Earl of Sandwich location in California, and we have many guests eagerly anticipating this new location.

The Original 1792 Available at Earl of Sandwich, Opening November 2 in the Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort

Construction is almost complete, and then comes the fun part – testing out all those delicious sandwiches. Known as the “World’s Greatest Hot Sandwich,” the Earl of Sandwich was created by a direct descendent of John Montague, the earl who invented the sandwich in 1792. Each day, the restaurant bakes fresh artisan bread and roasts meats using traditional family recipes. The restaurant will offer 14 different sandwiches, all priced at $6.99, including The Original 1792, pictured here, with roast beef, sharp cheddar cheese and creamy horseradish.

Stay tuned for more details about the restaurant and the grand opening, and be sure to stop by on your next visit!
