Pick Your Side: Good vs. Evil at WonderGround Gallery in Downtown Disney District at the Disneyland Resort

posted on November 30th, 2012 by Michelle Harker, Manager, Merchandise Marketing & Communications, Disneyland Resort

The battle between good and evil has never been stronger. So the questions become … Who will rise to the challenge? Who will prevail? Only a peek inside WonderGround Gallery will reveal the ever-lasting rivalries of our fairytale world. Join us on December 15 for the launch of the “Good vs. Evil” exhibit, as we unveil interpretations of frightful and delightful characters by various artists. Our morning lineup of artists will feature J. Scott Campbell, Miss Mindy, Nei, Noah, Mike Stilkey, Sean Chao and Kristin Tercek from 9-11 a.m. But be sure to stick around, because Stephanie Buscema, Martin Hsu, Jacki Huang, Jerrod Maruyama, Ming Ong and Michelle Romo will be appearing from 1-3 p.m. that same day.

Here’s a hot tip: Heard from my villain friends that they will be featured on custom Vinylmation designed by some of the morning artists. Personally, I think those villains are just trying to butter me up. Either way, I’ll make sure to post more about the exhibit, product launches and signings in the coming weeks. Until then, here’s a look at a few images you will see as part of the “Good vs. Evil” exhibit:

What other excitement lies within these walls? Find out in December. What characters are you most excited to see? And will it make you choose sides between good and evil?

With all the new real estate we’ve added to Magic Kingdom Park with the New Fantasyland expansion, new castles are popping up and Disney royalty is about to move in.

Check out this video, in which Belle and Beast enlist the help of HGTV’s “House Hunters International” to find them a new castle home. On Belle’s wish list is a library, of course, but with three lovely castles in the Fantasyland area, how can a girl choose?

Did the Villains Banish the Dragon from New Fantasyland? When is He Coming Home? Finding Out the Truth Directly from Princesses, Villains and an Anonymouse Source

posted on November 30th, 2012 by Gary Buchanan, Social Media Managing Editor

Scouring the internet for clues about the dragon rumored to be heading “home” to New Fantasyland has been quite a quest — one that’s led me to even more questions. I’ve found archival photos, and had reports of sightings sent to me which have been chronicled on my “Disney Dragon” Tumblr blog.

For a dragon-loving guy like myself I have to admit — it’s been fun, but also frustrating at times. There’s definitely something flying around up there. But I need to find it. I need to see it.

So, I decided to go straight to the source, New Fantasyland, to dig for new clues. I wanted to talk to the residents, royalty and villains of the land. The truth is out there, and I won’t stop until I find it. Interviewing Disney Princesses and Villains gave me a few leads, and a few dead ends. But I feel I am getting closer.

A breakthrough, though, came when I received a hot tip about someone who had reliable information on where our flying friend might appear. While I can’t reveal the name of my anonymouse source, I can say this tipster is in the know about all-things-Disney. My exclusive interview is below.

Stay tuned, because I feel a major breakthrough coming soon. I think the next step in my dragon dilemma might just be an overnight expedition to where this highly placed source advises me to search.

Disney Parks After Dark: Out of This World at Epcot

posted on November 29th, 2012 by Thomas Smith, Editorial Content Director, Disney Parks

Ever since I can remember, space has fascinated me. So, it’s no surprise Mission: SPACE catches my eye during visits to Epcot. To create the attraction, our Imagineers worked with more than 25 space experts, including five astronauts. It’s as close as you can get to blasting off into space without leaving Earth – and it is this week’s “Disney Parks After Dark” feature.

Mission: SPACE After Dark at Epcot

Do you have a favorite spot or attraction at Epcot to visit with the sun sets? Let us know and we may feature it here on the Disney Parks Blog.

Disneyland Resort Cast Member Russell Fenton Earns U.S. Armed Forces Bronze Star Medal

Disneyland Resort cast member and U.S. Army 1st Lt. Russell Fenton has returned to work after a 10-month deployment in Afghanistan, where he earned the U.S. Armed Forces fourth-highest honor, the Bronze Star Medal.

Fenton, who manages construction projects for the Disneyland Resort, as well as the U.S. Army during deployment, received the honor for overseeing one of the largest construction efforts in Afghanistan. He currently serves in the California National Guard one weekend each month.

Fenton says he’ll never forget the support he received from Disney during his deployments, from care packages from fellow cast members to a job promotion while serving in Afghanistan. He said, “Just knowing how well Disney takes care of military veterans, even when they are deployed and unable to work as cast members, speaks volumes about this company. Disney really values its people.”

Comedy Warehouse Cast Brings the Gift of Laughter to Disney’s Hollywood Studios

posted on November 29th, 2012 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment

Last year, alumni of the former Comedy Warehouse on Pleasure Island were reunited at Disney’s Hollywood Studios for a limited run in “The Comedy Warehouse Holiday Special.” For seven short days, the show played to capacity crowds at the park’s ABC Sound Studio.

Well, today I have good news and better news! The good news is, “The Comedy Warehouse Holiday Special” is returning by popular demand. Better still, the show is moving to a larger venue, the Premiere Theater, and its run is being extended to 14 days. Now, even more Comedy Warehouse fans and park guests will have a chance to participate in this uniquely hilarious live show.

For the uninitiated, “The Comedy Warehouse Holiday Special” presents the best of family-friendly improvisational comedy, as performers take suggestions from the audience and add their own brand of humor right on the spot, inventing holiday songs, stories, poems and scenarios.

“’The Comedy Warehouse Holiday Special’ is like a family reunion of the Cast of the Comedy Warehouse,” said Show Director Chris Oyen. “We’re so happy to be able to bring everyone together again for the holiday season and to put on this show. It’s a gift from our family to yours.”

“The Comedy Warehouse Holiday Special” runs from December 23 through January 5 and is included in regular Disney’s Hollywood Studios park admission.
