Electrifying Ear Hat Ornament Set Coming to Disney Parks in August

posted on June 12th, 2013 by Steven Miller, Merchandise Communications Manager

Elliot the Dragon from 'Pete's Dragon' and More Coming to Disney Parks in August

The one parade I remember from my childhood visits to Walt Disney World Resort was the Main Street Electrical Parade. Upon hearing the opening bars of “Baroque Hoedown,” I’m immediately transported to warm summer nights enjoying the dazzling lights. As my fellow author Jennifer Fickley-Baker explained in this article, the parade originally debuted at Disneyland park in June 1972 and later at Walt Disney World Resort in June 1977. Since June is an anniversary month for this classic parade, I thought a look at a new Disney ear hat ornament set would be wonderful. This limited edition set will be released August at Disney Parks. I caught up with Disney Design Group artist Costa Alavezos who designed this set to learn more.

Electrifying Ear Hat Ornament Set Coming to Disney Parks in August

“I was happy to work on this ear hat ornament set as the Main Street Electrical Parade is loved by so many guests,” explained Costa. “For the ornaments, I selected some of the most memorable float including my favorite – ‘To Honor America.’ That float is one of the longest in the parade. I considered making ornaments featuring every element from that section, but that would have been a massive ornament set [laughs]. So I chose to focus only on the iconic bald eagle, a symbol of the United States of America.”

The set has five different ornaments that will light up. I think my favorite is Elliot the dragon from “Pete’s Dragon” (I photographed him above with the light mechanism turned on). The set will have an edition size of 600, and will be released at Disneyland Resort and Walt Disney World Resort in August. The Disney Parks online store will also carry it at a yet-to-be determined date.

what kind of price are we looking at for these? I know the originals went for 25 each (granted I got mine on sale in January)

Steven Miller on June 12th, 2013 at 11:43 pm

@Tyler – Let me check with the seasonal team and I will get back to you.

The retail will be $150 (plus tax). Please note all retails are subject to change without notice.

Teresa from PA on June 12th, 2013 at 4:24 pm

These are fantastic! I must have them. And I agree, Elliot my favorite too. I love Costa’s work.

Danielle on June 12th, 2013 at 4:29 pm

I might have just let out an “OH MY GOD” in the middle of my office, enough for my co-worker to turn to me and ask what was wrong… but I reassured him that it was a good “OH MY GOD”… Haha, I am BEYOND excited about this! Main Street Electrical Parade is my favorite and these are adorable! Add in the fact that we are huge Christmas fans, and welp, we’ll be putting these up on our tree for sure!

Will these still be around in September? That’s when our next trip is, and I’m hoping I’ll be able to buy them then!

Steven Miller on June 12th, 2013 at 11:45 pm

@Danielle – Ha! That’s funny. Thank you for sharing. I’m delighted to hear that you are a fan. I pretty much felt the same way when I first saw them. It’s difficult to say if they will be available in September. I know they are being released in August at some point. I don’t have a defined date at this point. They will also be carried via the Disney Parks online store which may be another option. I hope you have a great trip in September. What a lovely time to be in Florida!

Craig from AZ on June 12th, 2013 at 4:30 pm

But when is it coming back to Disneyland?

5

Lauren from NJ on June 12th, 2013 at 4:34 pm

These are perfection.

Steven Miller on June 12th, 2013 at 11:46 pm

@Lauren – I couldn’t have said it better!

6

Michele on June 12th, 2013 at 5:05 pm

Love this! I must get a set of these. I will be watching for more details: availability date, price. (And I’m with Craig, when is it coming back to Disneyland?)

Steven Miller on June 12th, 2013 at 11:47 pm

@Craig and Michele – I wish I had an answer but I’m not really involved with those decisions. It’s good to know there is an interest. :-)

Deborah on June 12th, 2013 at 6:49 pm

Good thing I’m moving near Disney World in 2 weeks. I can run over to the park to get a set or two. Are the sizes going to be similar to the ear ornaments released last year?

Steven Miller on June 12th, 2013 at 11:49 pm

@Deborah – Best of luck with the move! Now you will be even closer to the magic. Hooray! The sizes of the ornaments are the same as the ones released last summer.

Nicole on June 12th, 2013 at 7:07 pm

Absolutely NEED these! I remember seeing this the first time as a kid on my dads shoulder. Just another wonderful memento to remind me of grand memeries. My kids have not seen the parade but someday we will make it back. Cannot wait til these come out so I can add them to my ever growing collection. Please let us know dates & prices !

Steven Miller on June 17th, 2013 at 1:33 pm

@Nicole – Thank you for sharing your memory. They will be released in August but I don’t have an exact date at this point. Retail will be $150 (plus tax).

JEFFREY from CA on June 13th, 2013 at 12:28 am

I really can’t make out the teal one is that the Alice float from MSEP or not?

Steven Miller on June 17th, 2013 at 1:46 pm

@Jeffrey – It’s the Tinker Bell float.

10

Jennie from CA on June 13th, 2013 at 4:15 am

Ooooommmmmggggosh! These are AMAZING!! I woke my husband with my squeal just now. I just took inventory of my Disney shoe ornaments and need 6 more to complete the set just in time for these. I will be at the park every day looking for this set. I was at the ELP in 1972 as a child. I loved it so much that I’m sure that is why I married an electrician turned electrical automation expert. :) These are beyond fabulous.

11

Kai on June 13th, 2013 at 4:29 am

These are great and all but I miss Spectromagic, Spectro is the parade I remember from my youth and I get chills when I hear the music fire up:

“On this magic ni-ight”

12

Pamela on June 13th, 2013 at 6:15 am

I have to say, I LOVE THEM! Love Pete the dragon! How much is this set? I need to put it in my budget :)

Steven Miller on June 17th, 2013 at 1:44 pm

@Pamela – The set will have a retail of $150 (plus tax).

13

ROILA on June 13th, 2013 at 12:15 pm

OMG! Only a release of 600?? They’ll be gone in a heartbeat! I have a lightbulb from one of the floats, when they ended the parade at DLR . I neeeeed these!

14

Jacqueline on June 16th, 2013 at 1:29 pm

@Jeffrey I’m 90% sure that the teal one is the Tinker Bell float that now leads the parade in Florida. We never got to see it here in California.

15

Adrienne from CA on June 16th, 2013 at 4:58 pm

Kai, speaking as a west coast Disney fan, I’d be perfectly happy to let you have Spectro back that meant Disneyland could have the MSEP back. ;o)

16

Sabrina on June 18th, 2013 at 9:26 am

I love these. Already sent the link to the hubby as my first Holiday wish list item this year. I miss the Electrical Parade!

17

Luke on June 18th, 2013 at 4:02 pm

These look awesome. I love the electrical parade.

18

Marian on June 19th, 2013 at 2:06 am

Thanks for letting us know about these. Do you have a SKU we can call Merchandise Services with? Thanks. Have a magical day!

Steven Miller on June 19th, 2013 at 9:34 am

@Marian – The item number is 400007348554. Please note that it will not be released until sometime in August 2013. Additionally, our Merchandise Guest Services team may not have access to it due to the fact it is a limited edition item. We will be offering limited quantities via the Disney Parks online store – http://www.DisneyParks.com/Store – at a future date.

An update as of August 5, 2013 – The ornament set is now at Disneyland Resort. It appears World of Disney at Downtown Disney District currently has it (with possible additional locations to follow). For Walt Disney World Resort, the ornament set is due to arrive toward mid- to-late August. The online store won’t be carrying it until at least October / November.

Tyler from WA on June 19th, 2013 at 5:20 am

thanks for getting the price info posted. Will I be able to call the “Merchandise Guest Services” (aka DelivEARS) number to order these living farther away? I am in love with these ornaments. When I was at disneyland I got the Captain Hook, Belle, and Snow White (they were out of Ariel or I’d have gotten her). Those ones obviously don’t light up, but my question is, will these be able to have batteries replaced? I ask because I know sometimes things are 1 time uses and when it dies it is just dead. Hoping we can swap out the batteries.

i’ll be keeping an eye out here for more info on release date

Steven Miller on June 19th, 2013 at 9:37 am

@Tyler – Please see my response to Marian above for some answers to your first question.

Additionally, the ornaments come with LR44 batteries and they can be replaced. The back of the box packaging shows how to replace them. It is also advised to remove the batteries when not in use.

20

Mandy on June 20th, 2013 at 8:43 pm

These look wonderful! August, huh? Any chance they will be released at D23 Expo? :)

21

Barbara on June 29th, 2013 at 2:15 pm

Steven – Are these the only ear Hat Ornaments being released for 2013 or are there more that are similar to what was released in 2012 with the characters?

22

keerstin on July 2nd, 2013 at 11:42 pm

Hi Steven, Could you please let me know at which store in DLR can I buy these in August? Thank you!

Steven Miller on August 5th, 2013 at 11:42 am

@Keerstin – For now, I would check World of Disney at Downtown Disney District in California. There may be additional locations to follow at Disneyland Resort.

23

Denise on July 10th, 2013 at 7:01 pm

Hi Steve, I have a question about the artists for the Ear Hat Ornaments of all collections. I noticed that the ear hat ornaments (and the shoe ornaments) designed/created by Cody Reynolds (and some with the assistance of Costas Alavezos) are not limited edition but any of them that Costas Alavezos solely designed/created are all limited edition. Could you shed any light as to why this would be? Just curious why limited edition items seems to be dependent on specific artist. Thanks so much!!

24

Tyler from WA on July 13th, 2013 at 11:58 pm

so I saw the rest of the new ones are online now on disneystore and I already bought 3 of them. I love that most of the new ones are based on attractions at the parks since most of the originals were characters

25

Tyler from WA on July 22nd, 2013 at 6:22 pm

hey guys, I just spoke with a DelivEARS CM (in anaheim) and she said she doesn’t know if they’ll be able to do orders because the edition size is so small, and she said to check back every couple days in august

26

John on July 27th, 2013 at 3:25 pm

I am wondering if there is any way to get notified when things like this get released on the Disney Store online? I check all the time, but is there a specific time or day when things are updated on the online store so we don’t have to check several times a day? :) Also, is the SKU (400007348554) enough to search for online?

I’m having the same issue with the new ear hat ornaments and wondering when they will be posted as well.

Thanks, and I am so excited about this! I LOVE the Main Street Electrical Parade!!

Steven Miller on August 3rd, 2013 at 6:05 pm

@John – Typically, there are new items added to the Disney Parks online store on Mondays. The best place to check for New Arrivals is here – http://www.disneystore.com/disney-parks-product/mn/1001081+1019102/

I’ve asked the online store team for an update and I’ll share any details upon their reply.

27

Leslie on July 29th, 2013 at 10:30 pm

Hi Steven – any updates for us yet on the release date and purchase locations in the parks? It is almost August… :). Thanks!

Steven Miller on August 3rd, 2013 at 6:04 pm

@Leslie – I’ve asked the seasonal team for an update. Please stay tuned as I’ll share as soon as I have a response.

28

Jill on August 3rd, 2013 at 7:22 pm

I saw these in the park yesterday (8/2) at China Closet.

29

Leslie on August 4th, 2013 at 4:52 pm

Thank you SO much for the post, Jill! I went to Disneyland this morning (8/4) – they are sold out at China Closet but the cast member called around & found the World of Disney store in Downtown Disney had some. They were still in the stockroom, so if not on display pls ask a Cast Member to check the stockroom.

They are awesome, much better in person !!

Steven Miller on August 5th, 2013 at 11:46 am

@Leslie – Great to hear you found them. Upon my return to the office this morning, I heard the news. I know that they are due to arrive toward mid- to-late August for Walt Disney World. The online Disney Parks Store won’t have them until at least October / November.

30

kenneth on August 4th, 2013 at 8:11 pm

so at 5pm on 8/4 I’m not contemplating braving traffic and heading down there to pick them up. It’s making me want to ‘whine’!!!

31

Omar on August 6th, 2013 at 3:01 am

Found these at China Closet on 8/2. Took the last 2 the store had.

32

Bethanne on August 6th, 2013 at 4:06 pm

Just called the merchandise line – available for “walk up” purchase only, but will keep checking! Also, cost is $150 – which I think is so reasonable for the light-up feature, as well as the limited release!

33

Greg from WA on August 9th, 2013 at 1:20 pm

are these going to make it to the Disney Parks online store still?

I know they have released into the parks.

34

keerstin on August 11th, 2013 at 2:08 am

Hi everyone, I went to the World of Disney store in DD on Monday 8/5 to pick these up. They were in the collectible section of the store. They are super cute and will look great on my Christmas tree. However, I was there again on Thursday 8/8 and did not see them in the display case where I found them on Monday. Not to say they are sold out but I did not see them anywhere in the collectible section.

35

Dan on August 13th, 2013 at 4:39 pm

Hi Steven, I heard a few things will be released at WDW on August 20th. Do you believe these may be released at that time?

36

Donna on August 16th, 2013 at 6:07 am

Steven, hi! It’s Friday, Aug 16th, any news as to the arrival date of electrical parade & snow white ear hat ornament sets at Walt Disney World in Orlando? Thank you!

37

Donna on August 16th, 2013 at 8:05 pm

The Electrical Parade ornament set was available today, Friday, Aug 16th at the Christmas Shop in Downtown Disney/Orlando, FL. I was told that it was also available at the Ye Old Christmas Shop inside Magic Kingdom.

38

Kevin on August 17th, 2013 at 5:32 am

I picked up my set on Friday 8/16 at the Ye Olde Christmas Shoppe at the Magic Kingdom in WDW. Have to say, I am very impressed, I am a huge Electrical Light Parade fan & this is a must have for anyone who loves the MSELP!!! I asked the cast member when they were put on display, he told me on Thursday 8/15.

39

Kelly on August 22nd, 2013 at 2:01 pm

I really hope there’s some left for online sales as Steven mentioned, because I’m not having any luck at the Parks.

40

Donna on August 22nd, 2013 at 7:23 pm

Kelly, if you are referring to the Parks in Orlando, FL, call Merchandise Guest Services at 1-877-560-6477, choose option 4, then ask them for a location where SKU#400007348554 (ELP hat ornament set) can be found. They were at Downtown Disney Christmas Shop, the Ye Old Christmas Shoppe inside Magic Kingdom, and also at a Christmas Shoppe inside Hollywood Studios. Good Luck!

41

Misty on August 22nd, 2013 at 11:09 pm

Someone please explain how these were released at Disneyland……I was hoping to get a set of these…but now it looks pretty bleak. Some cast members say they are sold out & won’t be getting anymore and some say they’re getting them in a few at a time. Steve – do you know what is correct?

42

Glenn on August 24th, 2013 at 5:15 pm

I got ours Tuesday (8/20) at the Christmas Shoppe at Downtown Disney.

43

Jacelyn on August 26th, 2013 at 3:44 pm

Are these still going to be made available online?
We aren’t heading to the parks until next month and I hear they are already sold out anyway. I really, REALLY want a set and would love to know when the rest of us will have a chance!

44

Donna on August 27th, 2013 at 10:25 am

FYI, got my Snow White LE ear hat ornament set this morning at the Christmas Shoppe at Downtown Disney Orlando, FL!!!!!

45

Joshua on August 27th, 2013 at 11:33 pm

Hey Steven,

When will these be available online for us International Buyers?

46

Jacelyn on September 5th, 2013 at 9:29 am

Anyone had any luck finding this in the past week? Anyone heard about when they will be available online?

I really, REALLY want these, but don’t want to pay the $300 people are asking for them on ebay. Sigh.

47

Joshua on September 22nd, 2013 at 7:06 am

Hey Steven,

One month on from my last comment, any luck for International Buyers?
Based in Australia and obviously can’t get to the Parks, so would appreciate assistance in tracking these down or at least telling us (assuming there are others) when it’s going to be available on the Disney Store.

48

Jacelyn on September 23rd, 2013 at 9:14 am

I just emailed the Disney Store and got the “Oh we don’t know when we’ll have specific products” auto response back. I’d love to know when they will be online as well. I really wish these weren’t limited or AS limited as they made them.

49

Kyna from CA on October 21st, 2013 at 3:59 am

Just bought my set!!! They just restocked on the Disney Store website. Stephen was right about adding new merchandise on Mondays. SO HAPPY!!!! I can’t wait!!!!
