Walt Disney’s Enchanted Tiki Room debuted as an engineering marvel featuring a musical journey to the South Seas. Today, the attraction continues to enchant guests and instill pride in the cast members who work there, like Enchanted Tiki Room Hostess Em Hantke. In this “Every Role a Starring Role,” Em talks about her duties and passion for a place where birds still sing and flowers still croon – 50 years later!

When my parents and I first visited the Tiki Room in 1963, my mom enthusiastically sang along with the music during the show. After the show, a cast member thanked her for her participation. Mom was very impressed. She told that story about the cast member’s courtesy for decades.

This is one of the first attractions I can remember from Disneyland. My mother took me when I was very young. I’m just over 65 now and have taken my kids and my grandkids back to Disneyland, and we always stop and catch this show. I remember we brought our kids here when you had an outdoor theatre show with traditional dancing and torches. That was always a treat. Whatever happened to that feature? One of the best attractions for the whole family is the Tiki Room. Just like I remember it! Lin
