I know many of my fellow Disney fans are excited for the upcoming film, “Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks,” and today our friends at Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures have given us here at the Disney Parks Blog the chance to show you the exclusive debut of their “Disney’s Saving Mr. Banks” official poster! The film reveals the untold backstory of how Disney’s classic “Mary Poppins” made it to the big screen and features scenes of Walt Disney visiting Disneyland with the book’s author P.L. Travers, inspired by true events.

Strike up the one-man band, please …

  • 2 of my most favorite things! Christmas time and Disney! I know I’ll love it even more because part of the movie was filmed at Disneyland.

  • @George, the screenplay was floating around hollywood for a very long time before the picture finally got made. walt and travers never went to disneyland, in fact walt went out of his way to avoid her.

  • I know what I want for Christmas…..I cannot wait for this movie release…now, more importantly, how can I get this poster?!

  • @ David, have you seen the film to know it is largely fictional? I am looking forward to this movie, but will wait for the blu-ray release.

  • Great poster! I am so excited to see this movie. Great choice on Tom Hanks as Mr. Disney.

  • I am NOT one to follow movie trailers or even pay much attention to new movies coming out….usually I’m weeks behind even knowing they’re out. Oh eventually I see them, but I’m not a movie theatre going person….I like to wait for them on DVD and then watch them repeatedly in the comfort of my own home.

THIS movie however….I’ve watched every trailer I could find (wow, the fact that I even went looking is a first for me)….I’ve googled for information about this movie (another first)……and I asked my kids if they want to go see it as soon as it opens (they looked at me in total shock, said in an awed voice “you mean at the theatre” before saying YES). They know my love of everything Walt….and my love of the Mary Poppins books (yes, multiple books, and I own a copy of every one of them!!), but they never dreamed I’d be interested in going to the theatres to see it!

This is going to be my Christmas present to myself….going to opening day of a movie!

Was a bit worried when I first heard of this movie, how could ANYONE capture the essence of Walt….but I have loved and admired Tom Hanks since his silly Bosom Buddies days through his maturation to truly wonderful work with just a touch of that old humor and I have confidence that he can do Walt justice!
Thank you Disney for bringing us movies about our beloved Walt…..when’s the next one? You might make me a theatre going person yet.

  • @Jonathan & @Charles — This is not a film about Walt Disney, it is more about P.L. Travers and the real story of “Mary Poppins.”

  • I like Emma Thompson. I hope in nomination for she. Great performance.

  • Tamara– According to the teaser trailer, the film is rated PG-13 “for thematic elements including some unsettling images.”

I am really looking forward to this film. The teaser trailer was very cool.

  • beautiful poster. in fairness, though, one should point out that the film itself is largely fictional and contradicts the actual history of walt and travers’ relationship.

  • In a picture about Walt Disney, I’d think they would use “Walt Disney Pictures Presents” instead of just “Disney.”

  • i remember seeing photos of Tom Hanks filming at Disneyland, and wished I was there to catch a glimpse. Now after watching the trailer. I’m looking forward to seeing the movie. I like the poster. Will posters be given away at Disney Expo?

  • I had not seen the trailer yet. This looks amazing. I am so excited for this!

  • Very clever!

  • Wondering if anyone could tell me why it is rated PG-13?

  • I love the minimalist approach to the poster. Mostly since it tells you what it is about if you don’t know, but it isn’t overdone. Super pumped for the movie!

  • Definitely reminiscent of the disney renaissance period! LOVE IT.

  • Looking forward to the movies release in December. Just wish it could be sooner. I’d love to get a copy of the poster, now just where would I hang it!

  • The poster is definitely going to go up on my wall when it’s released! I can’t remember the last time I was this excited about a movie!

  • I was there in November when they filmed at Disneyland. It was like stepping into a time machine, seeing the castle surrounded by extras (all Cast Members I believe) dressed in early 1960s clothing. It kind of made the regular park guests look like bums. Style certainly has gone down hill since those days.

  • Tom Hanks: My favorite actor (and celebrity crush)
    Love all things Disney
    Obsessed Mary Poppins fan

…this movie is all my favorite things rolled into one big thing. My heart can only take so much excitement!

  • This is BEAUTIFUL! It reminds me of the artwork called “Self Portrait” where Mickey draws himself as Walt. Wonderfully done

  • It’s Perfect! LOVE IT!

  • Hi Erin,
I absolutely LOVE the poster, especially the shadows of Mickey Mouse and Mary Poppins. This movie shows a lot of promise and I’m certain it will be a blockbuster!
    Thank you for sharing,
    Best regards

  • love it, love it, love it 🙂
