Ten Things You May Not Know About Disney’s Polynesian Resort at Walt Disney World Resort

posted on August 19th, 2013 by Michelle Baumann, Walt Disney World Public Relations

Aloha! Disney’s Polynesian Resort opened in 1971 as one of the first on-site hotels at the Walt Disney World Resort. The South Pacific paradise is a favorite among Disney guests with its famous Polynesian luau – and it was actually the first Disney resort I ever stayed at. I just loved the warmth of the Polynesian as it truly reflects the spirit of the islands.

As part of our resort series, here’s a look at the top ten things you might not know about Disney’s Polynesian Resort.

Great, now everyone knows! Just kidding, all great reasons to visit the “Poly”. (at least you didn’t tell them about the Aloha Pork Sandwich)

I first stayed at the Polynesian Resort in the early 1970′s. To this day when we return to WDW the sights, sounds and especially the smells of the lobby of the Ceremonial House bring back fond memories of my childhood.

Thanks for sharing this Michelle! I look forward to seeing this for other WDW Resorts. I’m staying at Animal Kingdom Lodge in early October for the first time, hope to see some tips like this for AKL before I get there ;)

I first stayed here in 1988 when I was nine years old; I had my 9th birthday breakfast at the Papeete Bay Veranda (now Ohana). To this day, I cannot walk through the door and smell that lobby without thinking of my dear grandparents who took me for the first time. I do miss the playground my sister and I enjoyed outside our room, and the birds in the lobby. Thanks for the trip down memory lane:)

I love this series! The Polynesian one of my family’s favorites, so this was very fun to watch. Although now I wish I was there watching fireworks!

Hi Michelle, We’re planning a trip July-Aug. 2014 and our daughter begged us to stay at the Polynesian , her absolute favorite resort (our previous stays were at the Grand Floridian). We’re concerned about the timing of the rehabs scheduled for the Great Ceremonial House. We don’t want to disappoint her and her best friend who’s also coming along with us. Is there anything you can tell us about the schedule for the Great Ceremonial House construction? Thanks, Lynn
