This Resort, inspired by Florida beach resorts of the 19th Century, began construction in 1986 and opened in the summer of 1988. Here’s a look at the Resort under construction in September of 1987.

  • Love the vintage photos that show things from ground up Is there somewhere they are archived to see? I have early books showing magic kingdom when it started construction

  • I had no idea how heavy that cupola would be! Neat photos showing the construction of this beautiful resort!

I forget how ‘new’ it is though. It seems like it has been around longer than that since it is such an iconic part of WDW.

  • I enjoyed my stay here in 2006. We had a view of Cinderella Castle and it was wonderful. However, the best part of the resort to me was the monorail.

Personally, I prefer the Beach Club since Epcot is my favorite park!

I love the vintage photos too. Keep them coming.

    • More vintage photos on their way next week!

  • My favorite resort! Love the vintage pics, thank you Nate!
