posted on September 27th, 2013 by Pam Brandon, Disney Parks Food Writer

Celebrity Chef Carla Hall from ABC’s “The Chew” got a taste of some of the favorite dishes of Epcot Executive Chef Jens Dahlmann, all available at the Marketplaces around World Showcase Lagoon – escargot in brioche, griddled Maine lobster tail, tuna poke, kimchi hot dog – just a few of more than 200 tastes and beverages along the waterfront at the 18th annual Epcot International Food & Wine Festival.

Look for Carla in the Festival Center Saturday and Sunday for cooking demos. (The popular chef’s events are sold out, but she’ll be signing copies of her book, “Cooking With Love: Comfort Food That Hugs You,” at the Festival Center.)

Eavesdropping opening day on the promenade, we heard the Brazilian pork belly is a big hit, and we got a taste of the fun new silk ribbon ice cream in China. You have 46 days to try it all, through November 11!

Through a Photographer’s Lens: The Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney California Adventure Park

posted on September 27th, 2013 by Paul Hiffmeyer, Chief Photographer for Public Relations, Disneyland Resort

I’ve always been a fan of hand-colored, hand-tinted postcards, and I have collected a few in the past. So I was surprised when I first saw this photo of the Twilight Zone Tower of Terror at Disney California Adventure park because it looked a lot to me like an old hand-colored postcard. The only thing I did differently in my normal editing process was to over-saturate the image to make it look a bit more like a hand-colored postcard. What do you think?

It’s Baaack! Epcot International Food & Wine Festival Launches Today

posted on September 27th, 2013 by Pam Brandon, Disney Parks Food Writer

One of the world’s biggest, best food and wine festivals opens today – the 18 Epcot International Food & Wine Festival presented by Chase at Walt Disney World Resort. And you have 46 days, through November 11, to enjoy it all.

Epcot International Food & Wine Festival Launches Today

By the numbers: more than 300 national and international wines, more than 220 tastes and sips priced $3-$8 around World Showcase Lagoon, and 138 Eat to the Beat! concerts. There are opportunities to enjoy the cuisines of 100-plus celebrity chefs and 160 Walt Disney World chefs. And more than 300 wine and beer seminars. The hard part is narrowing down your picks.

Where to begin? We like to start each visit at the Festival Center to make sure we don’t miss any of the daily events – from the Ocean Spray Cranberry Bog to fireworks each night, there’s lots more to do than eat and drink – but don’t miss the new Scotland Marketplace or Brazil (returning by popular demand).

One of our favorites is Party for the Senses grand tasting events, back this year on October 5, 12, 19, 26 and November 2, with incredible eats and more than 50 wines and beers and live entertainment.

Information and reservations for select programs is at www.epcotfoodfestival.com. Call 407-WDW-FEST (939-3378) to make reservations.

See you on the Promenade!

A Taste of South America at Carioca’s on the Re-imagined Disney Magic

posted on September 26th, 2013 by Jonathan Frontado, Disney Cruise Line

One of the brand-new spaces coming to the Disney Magic is Carioca’s, a fun and festive dining room named after Donald Duck’s parrot pal in “The Three Caballeros,” Jose Carioca. Designed to be fun by day and elegant by night, the energetic atmosphere in Carioca’s is inspired by the vibrancy of Rio de Janeiro.

A Taste of South America at Carioca’s on the Re-imagined Disney Magic A Taste of South America at Carioca’s on the Re-imagined Disney Magic

During the day, buffet meals feature a festival theme before night falls and the atmosphere transforms into an after-hours scene of Rio de Janiero, with city-side windows softly illuminated and lanterns flickering overhead. A scenery scrim is drawn to conceal the buffet and kitchen areas for dinner service, providing a more elegant dining locale.

In this video, see some of the mouthwatering cuisine, inspired by South America, you can taste at Carioca’s when the Disney Magic relaunches in Miami.

Keep an eye on the Disney Parks Blog and Disney Cruise Line Facebook page, and follow @DisneyCruise on Twitter for all of the exciting updates about the Disney Magic’s transformation! While you’re on Twitter, join in the conversation by using the hashtag #DisneyMagic.
