I’m excited to share that a new merchandise location is coming to Downtown Disney Marketplace in spring 2014. The Merchandise Co Op will occupy the space that is currently Team Mickey located next to TrenD. The shop with shops within it will showcase new and innovative Disney retail concepts. I caught up with Tom Sheldon, manager of retail design and development for Disney Theme Park Merchandise, to learn more.

“Think about your favorite marketplaces from across the US,” said Tom. “These unique shopping experiences in major cities like Seattle, San Francisco, Los Angeles, or New York all have something in common – they are compelling and distinct, allow visitors to connect to the environment, and foster a sense of discovery. This is our goal with the Marketplace Co Op.”

“This public marketplace will serve as a laboratory to showcase new concepts and specialty products,” continued Tom. “It will be an incubator to introduce exciting new Disney retail shops and products.”

Tom said that they will embellish the building’s construction and design to reveal its craftsmen style identity. They also plan on keeping the original ceiling elements, especially the skylight. The expansive space inside the current location will accommodate several shops.

At inauguration, The Marketplace Co Op’s six new spaces will be:

  • Beautifully Disney – A beauty destination for woman featuring make-up, fragrance and beauty accessories.
  • Cherry Tree Lane – Accessories for the sophisticated woman with a passion for scarves, shoes, bags and jewelry.
  • D-Tech on Demand – A place to personalize and customize your own electronic accessories.
  • The Trophy Room- Vintage inspired, lifestyle sports apparel and collectibles.
  • Centerpiece – Home product for Guests that want a splash of Disney in their room furnishings, textiles and everyday ware.
  • Zoey and Pickles – A girls’ destination containing the latest trends and glamour for the up and coming fashionista.

Work on the new Marketplace Co Op will begin in early 2014. In the coming months, I will be sharing additional details about each of these shops on the Disney Parks Blog. Trust me, you are going to be amazed!

  • I sure hope the NFL and College mini-helmets will still be carried there. I buy one each year when we visit Disney. I loved the hats, and team merchandise I can purchase there. Plus, it has cool RunDisney clothes. Please keep this element of Team Mickey in the new store.

  • I know this is an old thread (apologies) but does this mean the Rawlings store will be gone too?? This is a crushing disappointment, I have a bat made every time we are there. I have very fond memories of “Larry the Bat Master” hand lathing my bat. I am really, really sad about this.

  • Like around what month or date do you sort of calculate the Marketplace Co-Op will open???

  • Will Tren-D be closing as well? That’s one of my favorite stores and I’d hate to see it go. Very excited for the Marketplace Co Op though!!

    • @Caterina – Tren-D will not be closing.

  • Will The Trophy Room sell Disney hockey jerseys? My husband and I were so disappointed to get to WDW last year and find that Team Mickey didn’t sell them any more. 🙁 I need my Pooh’s Pirates (or similar!) jersey!!

    • @Susan and Sarah – Stay tuned in the coming months as more details will be shared about the individual shops within the Marketplace Co Op.

  • What about the Rawlings section within Team Mickey is that going or will it be incorporated into the trophy room
Will team Mickey still be open for the weekend of the Marathon??
I am hoping to have someone pick me up something there

  • How sad to see Team Mickey going away. I just got back from WDW the other week and was looking for more Nike golf polo’s. I found a couple in parks and resorts but only in a few solid colors. Team Mickey had about dozen different styles and colors and seemed to be the only place. They even had some ESPN clothes for men and women I couldn’t find at ESPN on the Boardwalk.

If Team Mickey is going for good, I hope the awesome merch it carried doesn’t also.

    • @Brent – I hope you had a great trip to Walt Disney World. I know that The Trophy Room will be a part of the Marketplace Co Op. That location will have sports apparel and collectibles. Please stay tuned as I will be sharing additional information in the coming months about the various shops.

  • Very sad to hear about Team Mickey! I can’t wait to see some concept art or something for these stores within a store. It kinda sounds like another world of Disney.

  • Sad to see Team Mickey going, but very excited for Cherry Tree Lane and Centerpiece. I too have been missing the Home Store. Do you know if the stores will be available online?

    • @Shannon – The home goods that are coming will be incredible! The same could be said for items coming to Cherry Tree Lane (the name of the shop is practically perfect!). It’s a little too early to say which (or if) items will be carried on the Disney Parks online store. I will know more closer to the store opening next spring.

  • Hi Steven,

What a wonderful concept, I just love this idea and believe it’s going to be very popular. I look forward to visiting soon!

    Best regards,
    Jacqueline

  • What a shame. It’s difficult enough sometimes to find men’s clothing and Team Disney was a nice stop with quality product.

    • @Jeff – I’m sorry to hear of your disappointment. The Marketplace Co Op will have The Trophy Room which will carry sports apparel. I would also invite you to visit World of Disney next time. There is an entire room dedicated to mens apparel. I hope you will visit the Marketplace Co Op when it opens in the spring. I think you will be delightfully surprised 🙂

  • It would be nice if they carried some apparel in larger sizes. It’s hard to find women’s merchandise in larger sizes all in one place.

    • @Michele – Thank you for the feedback. I will share your thoughts with the development and planning teams.

  • I can not wait for Centerpiece. We need more Disney stuff for our house! I hope we see some great stuff like bedding (for a king sized bed please!) lamps, drawer pulls, clocks, blinds…well, anything and everything Disney! 🙂

  • So happy that they will be bringing home goods back!

    • @Julia and Lisa – Just wait! Centerpiece is incredible, and I think you will love some of the merchandise coming to that location. I will be offering additional looks at the various shops within the shop in the coming months.

  • So excited for Centerpiece! Ever since the Home store closed at Downtown Disney many years ago, merchandise in these categories has been severely lacking!

  • I’ll be a little sad to see Team Mickey go… ah, the memories of griping at my sports-crazed dad because I wanted to look at toys instead of jerseys! Is the store already closed, and if not, when is it set to go away? I’d love to get one more chance to check it out!

    • @Becca – Thanks for sharing the memory. Team Mickey is currently still open. Work on the Marketplace Co Op won’t begin until early 2014.

  • Where is RideMakerz going?

  • Will Team Mickey be moving to a different location or will it be closing permanently?

    • @Katherine – Team Mickey will be closing permanently. The new Merchandise Co Op will have The Trophy Room. That shop within the shop will have vintage inspired, lifestyle sports apparel and collectibles. Stay tuned for more details in the coming months.
