Step In Time: Magic Kingdom Park’s 1976 Christmas Parade

posted on November 4th, 2013 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Editorial Content Manager

Halloween is over and we’re already on our way to the holiday season here at Walt Disney World Resort. That goes for this series, too – this week’s look back at Magic Kingdom Park’s parade history focuses on one of the early holiday parades held at the park, the 1976 Christmas Parade.

Herbie the Love Bug was one of the stars of the parade. Also appearing to celebrate the holiday season were Mickey Mouse and Minnie Mouse aboard a moving gazebo, Snow White and the Seven Dwarfs, and of course, Santa Claus and a team of marching, musical elves.

Herbie didn’t have headlight-eyes!

The eyelashes make Herbie look like a girl.

Maybe Herbie was going Hollywood for the parade. Some men have great lashes and I an totally jealous. Mr. Disney had some great lashes. They really stand out in pics of him.

Now we know why Pixar put the eyes on the windshield and not the headlights in the Cars movies, because Herbie is deeply unsettling in that picture.

Anyway, having spent last Christmas at Walt Disney World, I can think of few other places where I’d like to celebrate the Yuletime.
