Happy Lunar New Year Celebration Returns to Disney California Adventure Park

posted on January 16th, 2014 by Erin Glover, Editorial Content Director, Disneyland Resort

Come celebrate the arrival of the Year of the Horse during the Happy Lunar New Year Celebration, January 31 – February 2, at Disney California Adventure park! Each day, from 11 a.m. – 5 p.m., Paradise Gardens comes to life with this joyous tribute to the traditions and family celebrations of the Chinese, Korean and Vietnamese cultures.

Throughout the celebration, a Chinese dragon dance troupe, lion dancers and Vietnamese and Korean dance groups will join Disney characters like Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Chip ‘n’ Dale, Mulan and Mushu in Paradise Garden for the celebration. Guests will also have the chance to make their own paper lanterns, discover their Zodiac animals and more. And new this year will be the opportunity to take part in the tradition of writing wishes of good fortune and happiness to friends and family.

Will Bullseye be visiting for Luner New Year, considering he is a horse? :)

Erin Glover on January 16th, 2014 at 5:24 pm

No, but one of our Disneyland horses will be making an appearance!

Can’t wait! I love that the Lunar New Year celebration is back at Disney California Adventure. This being the Year of the Horse, any chance of us seeing Bullseye out in Lunar New Year outfit? :)

rebecca from CA on January 16th, 2014 at 2:09 pm

Kinda sad. They used to do these for a few weekends. Any chance it can be for more than one weekend?

Howard from CA on January 16th, 2014 at 2:57 pm

Would love to see both Bullseye and Horace in traditional Chinese costume :)

Any word about Shang also making an appearance?

From what I can remember, DCA offered up some tasty food and drinks last year. Will there be any special food items available this year?

Any kind of celebration planned for WDW? I would hope they would do something in the World Showcase.

I’m thrilled Disney finally released the dates for this, I really do not understand why dates can’t be released earlier for Disneyland events. However, I am sad that I will miss it by a few days, we are going the week prior. Oo well, maybe I’ll be able to find a tshirt early.

Any chance the red envelopes will be available online somewhere?

I can’t wait till Friday. Taking the day off from work specifically to see the Lunar New Year event. Is there going to be different characters to take pictures with? I hope so!
