My wife & I just returned from Walt Disney World last night, having arrived last Sunday. We planned ahead to better cope with the holiday crowds.

We spent 12/30 in The Magic Kingdom, after breakfast at Kona Cafe. I’d made reservations to view the midnight fireworks from Tomorrowland Terrace. That definitely spoiled us for viewing the fireworks in the future – dessert buffet and front row seats to enjoy the show. And going on the 30th meant the crowds weren’t as crazy as the 31st. (Of course we also used FastPass+ to make sure we were able to get into a few attractions.)

On the 31st we spent the day at Hollywood Studios, capped with a wonderful late dinner at The Hollywood Brown Derby. Then we took a boat ride over to Epcot in time for the fireworks. The crowds were intense, but we found a nice spot between Innoventions (I still want to call it CommuniCore) and Imagination! where we could watch the show without the jostling.

Both nights were fantastic, quite the display. And we ended up with an ‘extra’ day thanks to the snow in New England. Our flight home Thursday was cancelled, so we were there until Friday. So we had an unplanned day to wander around and relax.

This was our second trip with MagicBands and FastPass+, and we love the changes. (Our first was in October for the Food & Wine Festival.) We’re planning our next trip in March for the Flower & Garden Festival.

We splurged for my wife’s 40th birthday and got a Theme Park view room at the Contemporary with our three sons (11, 9 and 6) over New Years. On the 30th we were at Epcot for rope drop and did Soarin, Space Ship Earth, Test Track, The Sum of All Thrills, Living with The Land and Journey Into Imagination before 11 am. We headed back to the resort for a couple hours down time and then came back for a late lunch at the Biergarten and the 5 pm Candlelight Processional. We headed back to the Contemporary for more downtime/naps, watching the 9 pm wishes from our balcony. We headed over to the Magic Kingdom around 10 pm, did the Laugh Floor and found a good spot near the ice cream shop for the midnight fireworks. They were amazing! We then did our usual post fireworks ploy and headed for Tomorrowland while everyone else heads for the exits. Rode the People Mover and then moved on to Fantasyland with Dumbo, the Barnstormer and a quick hop over to Thunder Mountain before calling it a night.

After a sleep in we did a late breakfast at 1900 Park Fair, toured around the Grand Floridian a bit, then went Back to

We watched the New Year’s Eve fireworks from our balcony at the Contemporary and it was amazing. The fireworks were shot off in perfect unison from nine locations spanning from the island in front of the Grand Floridian to the usual spot behind the Beasts Castle. They filled the sky a mile across and it’s a site my family will always remember.

My husband and I stayed at the Coronado Springs starting Dec 28th which was our anniversary (7th). We did the Candlelight Processional and then got the special seating for the fireworks. Illuminations and the last song is very special to us. It was the next to last song at our reception and we always dance and sing it to each other. On the 29th, we ate at Narcoosee’s at the Grand Floridian and watched Holiday Wishes from there. Then we went to MK on the 30th and as Mr said the crowds weren’t bad at all…. That was the first time I had seen Fantasy In the Sky in a very long time…. On the 31st, we went to Hollywood Studios. We have gone there for the last 3 years (and on July 4th, too). The crowds here are so much less that at Epcot and MK and the music is awesome!!!! The band Mulch, Sweat and Shears alternates with a DJ. We got a table off to the side (most everyone was on the street) about 7:30 pm after the Idol show and one of us stayed put the rest of the night. (We took turns getting food and I even managed a bit of shopping!!!) So we saw absolutely gorgeous fireworks every night. And I got some awesome pictures which is one of my hobbies….
