Achieving A Goal – I runDisney

Ryan Miller is a pretty typical young adult. While off at college he did what most students do, adopted an unhealthy diet with very little exercise. The result, Ryan put on a few unwanted pounds, the dreaded freshman 15+. It wasn’t until he was out of college, saw a few holiday pictures of himself and realized he needed to make a change.

Like the majority of runners Ryan hit the road to lose weight, get healthy and to stay in shape. Never thinking he would ever be able to run 5 miles, 6 miles or 7 miles, he set a goal of running the Walt Disney World Half Marathon presented by Cigna. Training through the Connecticut winter he set out to prove to himself, family and friends that he could do it.

The results, he lost more than 40 pounds, feels healthy and earned the coveted Donald Duck Half Marathon finisher’s medal. Ryan’s message to others, “I just want them to hear I never thought I would be able to do something like this, and I am sure you can too if you don’t think you can.”

Very true! I started running after my second son turned 1. Thanks to running, I avoided surgery and feel so much better. RunDisney races are my reward for all that training. They are like one long party!
