Hold onto your hats and glasses, because I’ve got big news to share today about Big Thunder Mountain Railroad at Disneyland park. The wildest ride in the wilderness is reopening on March 17!
In addition to an upgraded track, restoration of the historic Rainbow Ridge Mining Town, repainting on portions of the mountain and updates to the ride vehicles, the refurbishment also includes some new surprises that guests should be on the lookout for when they ride again beginning March 17.

can’t wait to get back to “the happiest place on earth” to check out the newly updated BTMRR. I rode Splash Mountain a few weeks ago after the refurb, and considering the amazing job that was done on that, I have high hopes for “the wildest ride in the wilderness.”
So Glad its back! It has always been a favorite. Rode it on Thursday for the pass holder preview event. It is indeed better than ever!

Great to have Big Thunder back on line but, I was hoping, with the amount of time it was down, the track was going to be more like big thunder in Disney World.

AP previews start wednesday 3/13/14!! just visited 3/10/14 and was informed by cast members that it will be open for AP members only starting 3/13/14. All others must wait until 3/17/14
It will be soooooooooooooooooooo gooooooooooooooooood to have Big Thunder back on-line!!

As a cast member here at DLR, Anaheim, I was privileged to ride the ride this weekend with my family during the cast special event to ride it before March 17th. What a wild ride!! We loved every nano-mini-moment!! and doing it 2 times before the cast line for the ride was way too long to wait for the 3rd time around.
The calendar of March 17 still lists it as closed.

I’d love to see the blog do an interview with an Imagineer regarding the technical improvements of the ride and why. That’d be cool. Looks like the new track might create a smoother ride.
I was at the park yesterday, 7 March and I got some decent shots of the railroad running, I assume, castmembers through the ride. I wonder if there’s a way to post them for folks to see? Thanks..

Erin, That is the best news! I am planning a visit starting March 17th and was hoping it would be open in time for my visit. Thank you Disneyland. You made my birthday wish!! Now I wish that Indiana Jones ride was not closing the day I get there. darn!
Will the attraction at Disney World receive a similar update?
I was so nervous that my very favorite ride would be ruined as the Matterhorn was in my opinion (there is too little room now for the bumpiness of that ride if you are tall and I dream that one day the sleds will go back to the way they were), so I am very relieved and thrilled to see that it’s still basically the same old wonderful wildest ride in the wilderness!

The ride looks very similar to what it was before… Looking forward to getting on this in April!! Also, the teaser sounds like maybe there are some NEW hidden Mickeys to be found??
