Disney Parks Celebrates ‘it’s a small world’ Live On ‘Good Morning America’

posted on April 10th, 2014 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Editorial Content Manager

Earlier today, Disney theme parks around the world joined in celebration of the 50th anniversary of the “it’s a small world” attraction, part of which was featured live on “Good Morning America.”

The broadcast began with a chorus of kids singing live in Times Square, cast members and children singing in front of Cinderella Castle at Magic Kingdom Park at Walt Disney World Resort, a children’s chorus and dancing dragons at Hong Kong Disneyland, cast members at Tokyo Disneyland and Disneyland Park (Paris), and ended with Disney cast members singing in front of the first “it’s a small world” attraction at Disneyland Park, punctuated with a finale of fireworks.

Check out the video below to see the celebration for yourself.

The video is not working.. It says “An error occurred, please try again later.” It’s nothing but snow.

This is nice, but why is Carousel of Progress not mentioned also? It’s A Small World was not the only thing at the 1964 World Fair. There was also Carousel of Progress, Ford’s Magic Skyway which lead to Walt Disney Worlds PeopleMover and Great Moments with Mr. Lincoln which lead to us have The Hall of Presidents.

Why is the Carousel of Progress not also celebrated?

Stay tuned to the blog throughout the month of April for more on Carousel. It’s one of my favorites, so it will be celebrated! :)

I wasn’t able to watch the sing-a-long this morning while at work. I have tears in my eyes. So touching. Thanks to Walt Disney, Mary Blair, the Sherman brother, Rolly Crump, and all the other talented people who brought this attraction to life 50 years ago.

I’m happy you enjoyed it, Danielle. :)

Because the original Carousel of Progress, which opened in Disneyland, is no longer in Disneyland. It doesn’t exist anymore to be celebrated. The other attractions you mentioned all actually started in Disneyland first. The people mover, and then Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln didn’t led to Hall of Presidents first, it led to Great Moments With Mr. Lincoln at Disneyland.

We still have Carousel of Progress out here at Magic Kingdom Park in Walt Disney World.

I had the privilege of attending the GMA taping at Disneyland. It gave me chills to watch. It was such a dream come true for this HUGE Small World fan.

Thank you Disney for celebrating such a landmark attraction in the most appropriate way- with a sing along.
