Disney’s Polynesian Resort To Open Club Disney in June, Trader Sam’s in 2015

posted on May 15th, 2014 by Jennifer Fickley-Baker, Social Media Manager

Earlier this spring, we unveiled a few changes that are currently underway at Disney’s Polynesian Resort, including the fact that the resort will soon return to its original, 1971 opening-day name: Disney’s Polynesian Village Resort. Today, we’re happy to share more details about additional enhancements planned for one of your favorite classic Disney Resorts.

First of all, making its debut next month is a brand new children’s activity center called Club Disney. Here, children can be supervised by Disney cast members while they play dress up, make crafts and participate in storytelling experiences while their parents have fun on their own elsewhere at the resort. The area itself looks like a child’s fairy tale brought to life, as our Imagineers drew inspiration from classic Disney Little Golden Books, including “Alice In Wonderland,” “Pinocchio” and “Lady and The Tramp.” Club Disney will open at the resort next month and guests can begin making reservations now.

We previously shared that a Trader Sam’s Grog Grotto, similar to the one at Disneyland Hotel in California, is also planned for the resort. Today we’re happy to share that Trader Sam’s will open its doors at the resort in 2015. In addition another new food and beverage location, Pineapple Lanai kiosk which will offer a tropical guest favorite – Dole Whip – will open later this year.

Additionally, the resort’s Nanea Volcano pool is currently undergoing several enhancements, including expanding to include a new aquatic playground with slides for children, a new hot tub, and a larger deck with more seating for guests.

Stay tuned to the Disney Parks Blog for more on these enhancements in the coming months.

When will Trader Sam’s open in 2015? Early 2015? Summer 2015?

No word on this yet, Christopher. We’ll update you with more when we know. I’m excited, too!

I hope you mean the name of the new food/beverage kiosk is “Pineapple Lanai”?

Is Club Disney replacing the Neverland Club? And does that mean the Neverland Club is currently closed?

LOVE all of the updates and changes in the works Jennifer!(I stayed at Disney’s Polynesian Village for the first time when I was 3 years old back in 1972 – and it’s been my FAVORITE place to go on vacation ever since!

The volcano pool is the best – and with kiddos of my own now – the new aquatic playgound sounds wonderful.

Hi Jennifer,

Thank you for writing this post, I love the changes that are taking place, especially the layout of the lobby. I think it will unify areas more effectively and allow people easier access to different sections.

I can’t wait to see these changes personally this October.

I have stayed at the Polynesian since way back in 1974 as a child, had my honeymoon there in 1995, and have stayed there numerous times between 1974 and today. One of my fondest memories is walking off the monorail and hearing the roar of the waterfall in the central lobby. You knew you were back “home”…. although I am excited at the additions and the name change back to the Polynesian Village, I will be sad to see the Waterfall go. It just wont be the same. (BTW we are staying at the Contemporary in August for our 20th anniversary because of the Polynesian Construction)

I am VERY sad to see the lobby water/plantings area reduced to that tiny little thing I see in the picture. The lobby may be more ‘unified’ as one poster commented, but it removes the warmth. Managed to only stay at the Poly a few times over the years from a young child through my own first born. Whenever staying at other resorts, though, ALWAYS went to visit because of the lobby.

We will be staying at the Poly this October with a four year old. How do we make a reservation for the play area and how much does it cost?

We have stayed at the Polynesian many, many times over the years until we purchased our DVC at OKW! The Polynesian had always been one of our favorite resorts BUT now it will be our favorite sport because of Trader Sam’s! We have been to Trader Sam’s in CA and it is such a great place that we wished Disney World would have a similar place – our wishes have been answered!!! Thank you Disney! This is truly going to be a great addition to the Polynesian!!!! Can NOT wait!
