‘Move It! Shake It! Dance & Play It!’ Street Party Debuts This Fall at Magic Kingdom Park

posted on August 21st, 2014 by Shawn Slater, Communications Manager, Walt Disney Parks and Resorts Creative Entertainment

The “Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It!” Street Party has been a guest favorite at Magic Kingdom Park since its debut in 2009. This fall, we’re kicking things up a notch with new music, new characters, and a new way for you to be part of the show!

We’re even giving this party procession a new name – “Move it! Shake It! Dance & Play It!” Street Party. The fun begins on Main Street, U.S.A., as a high-energy party anthem heralds the arrival of favorite Disney characters – including new additions Stitch and Phineas & Ferb – who parade toward Cinderella Castle as the emcee, stilt walkers, and the rest of our party peeps encourage everyone to join in.

Things heat up in the Central Plaza when hosts Mickey Mouse, Minnie Mouse, Donald Duck, and Goofy appear atop giant gift boxes, leading everyone in a medley of remixed classic party songs. Once you’ve moved it, shaken it, and danced it, it’s time to help decide what comes next, as you vote for one of three current hits during the “Play It!” part of the show. You never know which way it might go!

The “Move it! Shake It! Dance & Play It!” Street Party will be presented several times daily, starting this fall. In the meantime, you can still enjoy the “Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It!” Street Party each day at Magic Kingdom Park.

Will guests still be able to come out into the streets to dance with the performers and characters like Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It! currently does?

Shawn Slater on August 21st, 2014 at 2:50 pm

Philip – Yes, you’ll be able to dance and interact with the cast and Disney characters, just as you do today!

Does that mean Mad Hatter, Genie, Lumiere, and/or Sebastian are out?

Shawn Slater on August 21st, 2014 at 2:55 pm

Mike – Lots of popular Disney friends will appear during the Street Party, but those particular characters will no longer be part of this show.

What exactly do you mean by “one of three current hits”? You won’t be playing Katy Perry and Miley Cyrus songs in a Disney Parade, will you?

Shawn Slater on August 21st, 2014 at 3:48 pm

Benjamin – The “Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It!” Street Party has included two songs by Miley Cyrus (recorded as Hannah Montana) for the past five years. This new feature will allow the show to remain fresh and current into the future.

Wish Clarabelle & Horace could be part of the parade!

When does it begin!? We will be there September 7th-18th :)

Shawn Slater on August 21st, 2014 at 9:00 pm

Caroline – We’re still narrowing down the exact opening date, but it won’t be quite that soon. The good news, though, is that you’ll be able to see both “Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It!” Street Party and the Disney “Festival of Fantasy” Parade during your visit!

Will Clarice be in the street party? I would love to see her in Walt Disney World :) or perhaps Bernard and Bianca from the Rescuers?

I can’t wait! My daughters loved dancing with Chip and Dale the last time we visited.

I love, love the current version of the song! Is there somewhere it can be purchased?

Shawn Slater on August 22nd, 2014 at 12:46 pm

Valeria – The actual versions used in the show are not available, but you can get “Pumpin’ Up the Party” by Hannah Montana and “Breakout” by Miley Cyrus through the iTunes store or other music retailers.

We are coming in on 9/24 and leaving on 10/1. We have experienced Move it Shake it Celebrate it (and have plenty of Mickey confetti saved!) lol… but what is the Festival of Fantasy you spoke of and will it still be happening when we get there? Hopefully we get to party in the Move it Shake it and Play it as well. Thanks! See ya real soon!!!

Shawn Slater on August 22nd, 2014 at 12:49 pm

Leslie – The Disney “Festival of Fantasy” Parade is an all-new daytime spectacular that debuted at Magic Kingdom Park in March and is presented daily. You’ll be able to enjoy it and the “Move It! Shake It! Celebrate It!” Street Party during your visit. The “SpectroMagic” parade has been retired and will not be returning.

Thank you so much for your repsonse Shawn. You have been very informative, unfortunately also the bearer of bad news. :( Ah well, I guess we will just have to wait and see what the imagineers come up with next!

Will Corbin Bleu’s Celebrate You song be gone as well?
Will Disney make a new “Parade” CD with songs from more recent parades?

Shawn Slater on August 27th, 2014 at 8:25 am

Michael – “Celebrate You” was added as part of a previous Disney Parks celebration, so it will no longer be included in the new version of the show. As for being able to get the songs for the parades, I would love that myself! I’ll have to check with my friends in Merchandise to see if they have any plans.

While we don’t have an opening date for this new street party, do we have an official closing date for MiSiCi? That is mostly what I am interested in finding out…

Shawn Slater on August 27th, 2014 at 8:27 am

Gretchen – There won’t be a downtime between the two shows, so one will end the day before the other begins. We’ve been asked not to publicize a specific date, since things are always subject to change, but it will likely be in early October.

I’ll be there early November……….hoping it is as good as the outgoing one………….always has been my routine to hit MKP first day at the time of the ‘parade/party’ and then as the LAST thing I do before flying home. SO EXCITED

This parade was the highlight of the trip for our youngest son.

There are no times listed for this parade from 9/28-10/3. If we miss it this time, I’m afraid he will be very disappointed. Are there plans to continue through those dates? Thank you!
