Happy National Gingerbread Day! To celebrate, I’m giving you a sneak peek at the brand-new gingerbread house coming to Disney’s Grand Californian Hotel & Spa at Disneyland Resort.
Opening on November 27, this gingerbread house was created by a talented team of 25 artists, engineers and bakers, and it will take a total of 1,400 hours to bake and create the edible portion alone! The house measures in at a whopping 7 ½ feet tall and 12 feet wide. Which might leave you wondering: what goes into a gingerbread house of this scope?
- More than 500 pounds of gingerbread
- 60 gallons of frosting and icing
- 100 pounds of isomalt sugar
- 50 pounds of granulated sugar
- 50 pounds of powdered sugar
- 2 gallons of egg whites
- 1 quart of lemon juice

Michael — There is a giant Castle in the lobby of the Fantasy Tower of the Disneyland Hotel. It was there last year, and it has returned this year.
For anyone out there who is a ‘gingerbread display’ (both real and artificial) aficionado, but hasn’t been to Disneyland Resort for the holiday season yet, be sure to peek inside the Cozy Cone office in Cars Land for a surprise.
Also, I don’t know if these two displays are back this year, but there is usually a small gingerbread house/village in White Water Snacks at the Grand Californian Hotel, and a slightly larger gingerbread house in Storytellers Café (also at the GCH).
I am very much looking forward to the sight and smells of the whole Christmas season at Disneyland, California Adventure, and Downtown Disney.. This will be an added treat adding more quality family time during the whole month of December.
Will there be a gingerbread display for the Disneyland Hotel? When will the special pins be released?
I am so excited! The Gingerbread creations were the tipping point for us to book our first visit Walt Disney World. Besides the artistry – the smell is such a huge part of the magic. When you enter the lobby and smell the spices and see all the details and effort put in by the Gingerbread team… it’s the perfect complement to the holiday splendor that Disneyland does so well. Super excited that we won’t have to try to bring home a gingerbread house kit in our carry-on luggage this year!
How long will the house be on display?

I love that the Grand Californian Hotel is finally getting its own gingerbread house in the lobby! I read about this elsewhere 2 weeks ago and I have been eagerly waiting for more information ever since!
The GCH is a great place to spend a bit of time during the holidays anyway, but with this extra addition of the gingerbread house it will be even more magical.
I hope that the smaller gingerbread houses at Storytellers Café and White Water Snacks will be back again this year as well.
