  • I don’t mind seeing a good movie preview, but my first stop in the Disney parks is always Captain Eo. Saw him in Anaheim first in 1987, then again after Michael passed in Disneyland Paris on 24 June 2010 just after it re-opened there. Then at Anaheim every year since – until I discovered it wasn’t showing on my last visit in December 2014, when the Big Hero 6 promotion was underway. I was SO disappointed! I loved Big Hero 6, but I had already seen it at El Capitan in Hollywood a few days before and wasn’t interested in a preview – I just wanted to see Captain Eo. Coming from Australia on holiday, it has become an annual tradition to make a b-line for MJ’s little 3D space fantasy – a wonderful piece of 80s nostalgia – as soon as I enter the park. Also always the last attraction I visit before leaving. I am hoping to get to Walt Disney World for the first time in October this year, and I really, really, would love to see it there. Having managed to make it to Tokyo before it closed there last year, WDW is the last park where Eo has screened that I haven’t visited to see it. Please bring back Captain Eo!

  • So will EO definitely be coming back? it is my Favourite attraction of all the Parks , I am from the UK i am coming to Florida again in June i so hope EO is back by then i will devastated if i cant see it this year. Hearing it’s closing permanently at all the over parks is sending me into panic that it’s just going without a proper send off.

  • That was the best movie trailer experience ever!I am so glad we got to see it before everyone else knows about it and it becomes packed. We went to see it at Tomorrowland at Disneyland. The seat moves, wind gust in your face, etc., so you really feel all the effects happening in the preview. My 16 months old son was even amazed by it. Before going in, you get a special pin that relates to the movie and after the preview we went to the special exhibit. You definitely felt like a VIP as a passholder to see and have all of this and it is not open to the rest of the guests at the park. I can’t wait for the movie to come out; the story line looks awesome and it is coming out the day before my bday!

  • I am disappointed. I go to the Disney World to experience the attractions, not sit and watch movie trailers. Maelstrom was my favorite attraction at EPCOT, Captain EO is number two. Now 50% of why I love EPCOT won’t be available when I go in May. I know that right now Future World isn’t very futuristic but more of the 80’s take on the future. It’s this reason why Captain EO is perfect. I’m not naive, I know that Captain EO has an expiration date, and that it is coming up soon, but I was hoping that I could experience it one more time and say goodbye. Now who knows, maybe I will get to see it again, maybe there will be another plug for a movie in that theater next time I go too. Only time will tell.

  • What date will this start at Disneyland?

  • Shawn – what do you mean “Ryan – It’s more than a pin… it’s an invitation! ;-)”

    • Teri – It’s a reference to the film, in which a special pin is given to certain individuals, granting them access to the mystery and wonders of Tomorrowland. All will be made clear when you see the movie next month.

  • This is disappointing to say the least. This was one of the attractions I was looking forward to on my first visit to Disney World. I just happen to be arriving April 10th. sigh.

  • Yes, yes, yes! I was hoping that “Tomorrowland” would get a sneak peek in the parks, and I’ll be a Disneyland just in time! I can’t wait to see more of what looks to be a really intriguing, exciting movie.

(I also agree that it’s time for Captain EO to leave permanently. Its time was long gone before sentiment brought it back, and even that’s wearing thin now.)

  • So upset I just found out that the Malestorm is being replaced in Epcot. This was one of my favorite rides. It makes me sad to think that in a month when I take my 15th trip to Disney I won’t be able to ride the Malestorm. Really wish Frozen could have replaced something else.

  • please bring back honey i shrunk the audience or better yet maybe disney can put it out on blu ray dvd and copy with all of the films that they don’t play at the parks anymore that would be cool

  • What is the date that it will open at EPcot? Will it be open on April 10th?

    • Stacey – Unfortunately, no. April 10 is the first day the “Captain EO” attraction will be closed to prepare for the sneak peek, so the previews won’t be ready to go until sometime the following week.

  • Pretty cool. I’m looking forward to the film. Though I hope that there will someday be a long-term attraction in this location again. Perhaps even a new ride.

  • Can’t wait to see this movie! Is it based on a book? My daughter would love to read it!

    • Patty – “Tomorrowland” is an original story by Damon Lindelof, Brad Bird and Jeff Jensen.

  • Will this be first come first serve? or will this be a fastpass+ option? Also, how many showings per day?

    • Fred – As a reminder, this is a preview of exclusive scenes from the film and not a screening of the full movie. This sneak peek will play roughly every 15-20 minutes throughout the day. While Fastpass+ is not being offered for the sneak peek, it’s a great experience to take in between your other Fastpass+ selections.

  • this great news very excited : )

  • so where will one see the exhibit at Disneyland? I’m guessing the in the Starcade where the Big Hero 6 meet and greet took place considering that Innoventions closes in just a few days

    • Tyler – You are correct! That space is close to the exit of the Tomorrowland Theater, making the exhibit a perfect complement to the sneak peek.

  • RIP Captain EO. The show is gone in Disneyland and it looks like it will be too in Epcot.

  • Captain EO needs to go away. It’s time has come and gone, come again, and now needs to be retired once and for all. Please, please, please replace it with something new!

  • Sorry, just need to clarify haha. So it’s final day of being open will be on April 10th?

    • Jake – The attraction will be closed on April 10. The last chance to see “Captain EO” before the start of the preview is April 9; however, “Captain EO” is expected to return at some point in the future.

  • How long will the preview be showing for? We will be at WDW from May 7-13. We can’t wait to see the movie!

    • Nicole – The “Tomorrowland” preview will be playing at Epcot through May 22, so you’re in luck!

  • When will Captain EO return?

    • Fernanda – We don’t have a date for that just yet.

  • I’ve been excited for this movie ever since it was announced. Can’t wait for the sneak peek and to see some of the props. Hoping “Tomorrowland” merchandise will be sold in the parks, maybe a certain pin?

    • Ryan – It’s more than a pin… it’s an invitation! 😉

  • Excited for Tomorrowland, but concerned for my EO. When is EO expected to return? Will it be once Tomorrowland is in theaters?

    • Erica – “Captain EO” is expected to return once the film previews are complete.

  • I can’t wait to see Tomorrowland in the movie theaters! Awesome!

  • What will be the last day to experience captain EO?

    • Jake – “Captain EO” at Epcot will close temporarily, beginning April 10.

  • Rest in peace, Captain EO.

    • Kenny – “Captain EO” is expected to return in the future, once the film previews are complete.
